      I do appreciate your view and I wish that was taught in our schools in the states now a day's. When I was in school we were taught gun safety even though I was raised in the south, where we were raised to hunt and taught gun safety at home. Their were also 4h club in the inner cities but that was taken out of schools just like gun safety. Great advice. The instructor at the range I frequent used to tell me, "Let the shot surprise you, don't anticipate it." This seems similar to your instruction; the problem is in the anticipation. My problem was that I began to anticipate the "surprise."
    I tried to make an appointment at the range last week, but they're full up for the next month. I live in Israel.

    • @SilveradoShootingAcademy
      @SilveradoShootingAcademy  10 місяців тому +6

      In reality, it is impossible to surprise yourself unless you have a gun that can randomly change the trigger break pressure. The only value in the "let the shot surprise you" gimmick is that it promotes a slow trigger pull that allows you to observe what is happening in the milliseconds prior to the trigger break. Use our technique when you train. It works. Best wishes to you in Israel, from us here in the USA.

      A trigger like that will force you to slow down and not snap off the shot. Competition triggers are difficult to train with, because people will blow past the break point too quickly in a unconscious attempt to terminate the anxiety state associated with the impending explosion.

    Excellent video! My dad started taking me hunting nearly 50 years ago at age 7 and thus I grew up with guns. Anyhow, I became a highly proficient shot by the time I was in my teens. At that time, my preparation had become fully automatic and my focus/concentration had become such that it was entirely on the task at hand; which was to make an accurate shot on a deer I had chosen to take. So I learned at a very young age that concentration/focus was extremely important to marksmanship and even more so for the experienced shooter. You rarely see that mentioned so I applaud your video because a significant part of marksmanship has nothing to do with physical capabilities at all.
    I actually just finished a massive debate with a few self proclaimed prominent gun Instructors on a very popular forum. They are all about trigger control and place little value on stability (stance/grip) or even aiming. They also make no mention of the importance of mental focus; all of which I was arguing. For them, in order to become a good marksman you just need to learn trigger control. Trigger control is very important but that is the wrong approach because there is so much more involved with marksmanship which would include mental training.
    God Bless.....

    I have to tell you how impressed I am with this video. I'm no spring chicken, as the calendar likes to remind me, and have been shooting all my life, but more serious handgunning; just over the past 12 years or so. As part of my interest and self-improvement, I've watched many hours of instructional and opinionated UA-cam videos. So I was quite surprised to coming across this video for the first time today. From my experience and cognitive assessment, this video hits the nail on the head. This is such good information and so different from the majority, if not all, the other videos that are out there.
    The second half of the video was totally unexpected but again, so on the mark. I think this video should be promoted wherever, however possible. A must-see for its quality educational, historical, and training values.
    As a final surprise, in reading over some of the comments, is to find that you folks are last-stand holdouts in California ... of all places! As someone else said, wish you were more centrally located.
    Job well done. Keep up the fight and excellent work.

    I never knew such videos existed. I am way into my 70's and I have discovered my passion for handgun shooting. Surprisingly no one ever told me not to start with a Desert Eagle AE 50 or 44 Magnum. The best starting point is to practice with a 22lr gun which is more reliable (don't keep on jamming). Once someone understands what this video explained (I wish every range in the country has videos like this and the range-masters encourage newbies to watch them). I wish I can find videos which explain how to control breathing and focusing (Zen part). A major reason we are losing this battle because we the adults are unable to bring the young ones and teach them properly this art and craft. I am a member of a gun-club, in our monthly meetings average age of participants is mid-sixties, I can see this fine place becoming a ghost club in next few decades or so. Fear of guns is deliberately instilled by those who do not want us to have guns. We are blamed to be anti-social and our ORGANIZATION is portrayed as anti-American, anti-Peace, I see very little to counter it. IInd amendment may not be dissolved but local authorities (I don't want to name them) are doing their best to make it ineffective, and that will take away an important part of the American Heritage.

    Love this video, just saw it in my recommended videos. I have 2 comments: I hear perspective new handgun buyers always ask the same question ... what is the best handgun to get/shoot/use for self defense and always the dealers go into makes and models of what they recommend or specific calibers and i always interrupt looking directly at the dealer saying to both them and the customer "the one you don't miss with." 9 times out of 10, the customer starts talking to me then. Second comment is if I'm on a watch list just now, the watchers are lazy.

      It's nice of you to be the obnoxious guy who interrupts strangers in conversation. What's not so nice is that advice is misguided. People don't simply "not miss" with a certain gun. People need to be trained to shoot effectively before they can. Additionally, the guns that are most effective for self or home defense are not the best guns to train with.

      A wise decision, Dad. Encourage your kids to shoot, enjoy the sports, and teach them significance of the Right to 'keep and bear'. Take them shooting. Avoid coaching or training them yourself. People think this is a marketing angle we take. It's not. We don't care who trains them. You can have your beer drinking buddy train them provided he or she is competent to give instruction.

    I have been trained and shooting my entire life. My father was a cop just about his whole life. I was trained by him other cops and other trainers. I think this is probably one of the best training videos I've ever seen in my life. When I was the age of about 6 years old I was shooting a large caliber rifle. I believe it was 30 ought 6. As I pulled the trigger the scope kicked back and hit me in the eyebrow. I think subconsciously that accident has been haunting me my entire life. After watching this video actually caught myself slightly flinching as I pull the trigger. I should have been taught this concept many many years ago. My son is a shooting instructor for the Marines. I'm going to send him this video and see what he it says about it. Thank you for posting this video. I'm going to share this with all my shooting partners and both my children.

      Age 6 with a .30-06 will not end well. A 6 year old doesn't have the body weight or strength to control that much energy. Sarah didn't shoot a bolt action high power rifle (8mm Mauser) until age 15. This was after years of shooting Olympic air -rifle, 4 position small-bore rifle and pistol caliber lever action rifles.

ALL Americans NEED to be made aware of this and also the critical nature of the 2A, and the people actually exercising it, to the defense of the entire nation and it's constitution. THIS is why that one amendment contains those words "shall NOT be infringed". I was honestly hoping they would ND with the weather guns, maybe some people never ND but it's a hell of a learning experience if you don't get it trouble or hurt someone (I doubt many a man have two ND's under their belt, I'll admit to bouncing a 9mn around my bathroom......classic "clearing the chamber" *before* dropping the mag ....)
      I guess I kind of rambled, your dad sounds cool but I think when you start earlier it's good to "step up"
      But also there us nothing wrong with a first timer learning on a harley, I happen to get a shadow first but live riding so much I would've persevered. I think the same applies for guns, it's nice to start with 22's and BB guns but not necessary.

When he opened it, I explained that he was not allowed to point it at the dog, the appliances, or any of us who didn't agree to play with him. I also told him that if he started pointing it where he shouldn't or getting careless with it, I would take it away (I lived with him so it was an actionable threat). I saw a cap gun as a fun toy and a training tool that could help instill good habits.

Also, in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's we had a nation-wide guns handleing and shooting classes obligatory as well as obligatory army service for men. First, I want to thank you for your patriotism, your understanding of the Second Amendment and the importance you place on teaching family members, especially young women, how to properly use firearms. Second, thank you for conveying the correct mindset necessary to accurately shoot a handgun. At 55 years of age and having been shooting since age 5, it was only recently that my inaccuracy was solved by concentrating on correcting my reactive interference. The pre-shot flinch is the enemy of the well-placed shot. I was never afraid of the gun, but my brain was reacting adversely in anticipation of the shot.

    • @SilveradoShootingAcademy
      @SilveradoShootingAcademy  5 років тому +1

      Reactive interference is a very primitive response to protect our head and face (vital neurological equipment) from stimuli that is a threat. It is a primitive response because you can even do the same classical conditioning on a snake with the concussion from a gun. This is in addition to the anticipation of recoil.

    I really enjoyed the video. I have had my firearm for 3 years. I practice dry firing and know how to disassemble it to clean and reassemble. A year after buying it, I finally went to the range, and a few clips in, my gun had a misfeed which greatly scared me because I didn't know how to clear it, but my brother in law did. I only had the little foam ear inserts and it was super noisy and stressful for my first time. That was my one and only visIt to the range for 2 years. So the gun sat in the drawer for over a year, but I continued to watch videos especially how to clear a misfire/misfeed. Finally, in September of 2023 I went to range and I had the range to myself for 15 minutes before another person came. I was able to adjust to noise and startling factor of the gunshots and this time I had much better ear protection. It was really a great experience this time and I used the technique mentioned here and plan to go again. I only have shot about 180 rounds through so far. I still have much to learn.

    I 100% agree with you. I've always said that anticipating the shot, is what makes you miss. I always take a very firm grip, and then trick my mind into thinking that the gun is empty. Then I pull the trigger, as if I'm dry fire practicing. I shoot very good, on days when my imagination is on point. But, I always shoot bad, when I'm trying to time the trigger, with the ignition of the round going off, simply because I'm anticipating the recoil of the explosion. Confidence in your grip will also take your mind off of recoil. After several rounds, with a firm grip, you will realize that you have total control of that firearm, and it never feels like the gun is overpowering you. These are just a couple of the things that have helped me become a better shooter. And also just like you stated... Repetition will slowly train you to ignore the explosion going off in your hands. Very good video!!!!

I had no idea why I could shoot a long gun with better than average accuracy but just plain sucked with a pistol. I blamed my eyesight, pistol, short barrel on pistol (Glock 27), iron sights and ammo. Turns out it was none of these. It was all me getting tense right at the millisecond before the striker released. I’ve learned to recognize this and calm myself before pulling to the break point. I’m putting nice groups in the bullseye consistently now. I hope the tension will eventually be completely gone and I can speed my shots up. Thank you so much for this video!

    Well done. 24 years of military service and many of those years were in special operations. I learned something today. I look forward to more of your videos.
