    Peanut allergies can be extremely common and extremely life-threatening. Sometimes our boys and gals in blue have to deal with some far less common allergies though (like this one right here 👉ua-cam.com/video/hOhDX0u7UHA/v-deo.html). What's the most interesting/scariest allergy you've ever come across?

      I think I had an allergic reaction to cold about 10yrs ago.
      It was winter and maybe around -25C and I was waiting for the bus to school, while on the bus it started to itch everywhere and I got these tiny bumps all over and my skin got a bit red.
      I called my mom and she said I should go back home instead so I did, it took some hour but the tiny bumps, redness and itching went away. It never happened again after that 🤔

      @@glupglupglup3207 Epi-Pens only contain epinephrine, which is adrenaline. They do nothing to remove the allergen from your body. They simply buy you time by relaxing muscles and letting your airway open. So you may feel fine but as soon as the epipen wears off you are back to square one and reacting again. You still need to go to the hospital to get treated for the actual allergy. For severe reactions the epipen buys you maybe 20-30 minutes before you start reacting again.

As quickly as she dropped when she stood up, she wasn't going to make it to that bed. And, if they did have to do resus, her being on the floor is better. It's really difficult to do CPR properly on a soft surface. Thankfully, it didn't come to that.
      But, the girl with severe abdominal pain wasn't looking great. Obviously, she wasn't on the verge of dying, but she wasn't doing too well. Her pain could have been a number of causes, from gallbladder problem, to appendicitis, to bowel obstruction, etc. I am curious what her diagnosis was.

      When you're a life guard I assume you undertake training to keep calm, so you're trained to remain calm or at the very least look to be calm on the surface. The same with any intense job whether it be a cop, medic, fireman, you get the point. When I was a kid and did first aid with my grandparent who ran a local Red Cross one of the lessons you learn is remaining calm and methods to deal with the stress and pressure. As Georgina said, if you don't maintain a relative calmness you make mistakes and raise the panic of both you and the person you're looking after.

      A chick in my acting class got stung by a bee after class while hanging out with another classmate and had her first anaphylactic reaction to it. It started with her needing the bathroom (sometimes a rare symptom is diahorrea) and got progressively worse. They were in a building that had both a pharmacy AND a medical centre which would both have an epipen (Australia has government funded healthcare so they're funded with medication for emergencies like this). My classmate ran and got a doctor. But the doctor didn't want to use the epipen because it was "her first reaction" so he wanted to wait for the paramedics. She was at this point too weak to get up and seriously struggling to breathe. It was getting worse. Still, he did nothing. It was the paramedics who arrived that finally administered one.
      Next day when they told me about it I told them that the doctor was an absolute idiot. Seriously. What doctor sees someone paralysed on the ground, gasping for breath and goes, "not my problem!"
      At my old pharmacy we regularly had people come in in the middle of bad asthma attacks with their script for it and our response was always to give them the puffer straight away. We had an incident where an elderly man came in to have his blood pressure checked and it was EXTREMELY high. Emergency level high. He was just going to go home and worry about it another day. The pharmacist would not let this happen on her watch. She spent over ten minutes with other staff too convincing him he had to go to the hospital right away as he could be about to have a heart attack. And he did. Because that was the right thing to do... They would never have hesitated to use an epipen.

    Wow!! This really opened my eyes! I'm severely allergic to peanuts - my peanut allergy is over 100. I've never had a reaction, and thank the Lord that I never have. I’ve never seen what would happen if I ingested peanuts. I mean, I’ve had some close calls at school, with people not knowing how serious my allergy is. The only reaction I’ve had is, the first time I figured out a had the allergy, and I was 4, and I was practically foaming at the mouth and broke out into hives. But thank the Lord nothing worse than that. So, this is a wake up call to everyone who does not understand how serious allergies are. Kudos to the Bondi life guards who are versatile with their skills! I can only imagine how hectic and stressful their shifts can be. I'm a doctor working in an emergency department and I frequently encounter patients who almost die (or die) due to the inability of the non-medical personnel to maintain pre-hospital care/ resuscitation until the medical help reaches the patient. In my country where I work, except the doctors and nurses, others don't have any clue of what to do when a person suddenly collapses or becomes ill in their day to day lives. Most of them are ignorant as well. So, when I see videos of you guys resuscitating and providing care for innocent people who have come to have fun at your beach, it makes me really happy!!

    This is a good example of how quickly anaphylaxis can kill. The epipen was still trying to work in her system whilst she collapsed and nearly went into needing resus. If they'd waited 5 minutes longer to give it she might not be here.

      How do you manage going out to eat at restaurants? Do you ask them if their ingredients come from a peanut processing factory?

    • @presasmr9085
      @presasmr9085 4 роки тому +1

      KVStarStruck22 this is weird- i’m allergic to peanuts, but not peanut OIL. I’m really good about knowing what i can and can’t eat. i can eat basically everything except things with peanut/ peanut butter in it. There’s a steak place called Texas Roadhouse... i’ve never been allowed to eat in there because every time mg mom runs it to check it, there’s always peanut shells on the ground (they serve you them while you wait). But otherwise i get pricked every year for peanuts. Fortunately, i’ve never had to use my epi pen since i was a baby (when i has an allergic reaction)

      Pres ASMR I am too, I did a peanut study so I could possible lose my allergy and I ate 3 ml of peanuts a day and I got so sick I had to stop and if I had finished the study which was about 3 months I would have been able to eat 5 peanuts at the end but I couldn’t even eat 1/100 of the peanut

    It’s always good to ask for help like she did. She may have felt embarrassed but there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. My brother almost went into cardiac arrest and almost died on the cruise we were on a few years ago from extreme dehydration and he almost didn’t seek help.
