- The Mazda RX-7 FC3s is a front/mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive (RWD), sports car that was manufactured and marketed by Mazda from 1985 to 1992. The second generation of RX-7, known as the FC, was offered as a 2-seater coupé with a 2+2 option available in some markets, as well as in a convertible bodystyle. Mazda wanted to create something that would appeal to the American market, as that is where the majority of the first gen’s sales were. The design team used the Porsche 924 and 944 as a basis for the FC as they were two of the most popular sports cars around that time.
The FC was available with a 1.3L 2-rotor Wankel engine (13B code), offered in naturally aspirated or turbocharged forms. Power range was from 146 HP to 200 HP as standard with some exclusive models reaching 215 HP. These engines have a reputation for poor reliability, but if they are well maintained they shouldn't cause much trouble. Since they are not conventional engines,
It’s important that the engines are serviced by rotary specialists. Poorly tuned or poorly maintained motors can lead to reliability problems.
While the first gen RX-7 was considered to be a pure sports car, the FC tended toward the softer sport-tourer trends of its day. Mazda upgraded the rear end suspension design by fitting an Independent Rear Suspension setup. This improved the handling of the car and reduced oversteer. Steering was also made more precise and disc brakes became standard.
The RX-7 is known in motorsports, it has performed well in racing and drifting thanks to the unique characteristics of the rotary engine.Turbo models are commonly used for drifting; they offer good handling, low weight, many tuning capabilities, and enough power to drift successfully. As an FC owner I feel like theres a lot more that could have been said about it’s drifting characteristics. Its short wheel base and suspension setup makes it quite unique in a good way IMHO. Thanks for the vid!
I love fc's ❤️
Its the car of my dream
The FC is better than the FD. In my opinion.
Based opinion right here
I second that notion
I think so. RX7 FC looks better
probably not better, but a bbeautiful fc in my opinion looks always better than fd
Idk if its better or not but does it look better? HELL YES!
The rear trailing arm suspension and differential setup let the FC down, the wheels naturally toe in when the suspension compresses wich makes it hard to predict.
you can get rear steer delete bushings which stop that tho :)
It was designed to have a degree of passive turning under cornering load, so you have to delete the DTSS system to get rid of that. Most FC’s are so old the system doesn’t work anymore either. It’s just the toe control arm bushings.
Dream car for a drift build ❤️🔥
