The Black Eagles are staying at the hotel I work at. I got gifted a shirt that only their display team gets to wear that can't be bought. I'll be seeing them at RIAT on Sunday. I can't wait.

I'm not going to lie I was farely disappointed by this display. Reading about the comments regarding fuel, I now understand the fuel issue.
However I found the passes to be a lot higher and further back compared to the red arrows. Didn't seem as tight.
    Of course, it's still impressive.

Height wise I think they were quite similar to the comparable parts of the Reds' display (Red Arrows first half has a 300ft minima. They come down to 100ft in the second half, but not for big formation passes like these).
They were definitely quite distant, which is a shame - and that has certainly not been my experience of the Black Eagles at over-land events. The Reds were at the other extreme though. They got much, much too close on at least two occasions and had to modify the display on the fly to avoid busting the display line again on their final break. I don't imagine their debrief was much fun.

@@ThisisFlight I appreciate the insight, you know way more than me! There was one pass from the right (pier side) where i thought they had definitely passed the display line. Felt almost onto of us!

They were about 3 miles out to sea. Probably good if you had binoculars 🤣🤣🤣

Out of an abundance of caution due to the seabird population, I understand - a problem they are not used to dealing with back home. Not worth taking big risks at a low-profile show far from home with far more important commitments coming up three days later.

Such a shame they couldn't stick around for longer felt like 4 mins wasn't enough

I suspect there may have been some pressure from RIAT for them not to do the full show, they won't want another event to steal their thunder again after putting in all the legwork.

@@ThisisFlight I thought originally it was due to fuel restrictions but more formation passes would of been nice felt very rushed. Still enjoyed em tho

Indeed it was, they were operating from Boscombe and used most of their fuel on the transit - I just can't help wondering if that was, to some extent, a manufactured problem.

@@ThisisFlight there's definately been practice of more than what was shown today, at the start of the week people living around the airfield saw so much practice

    • @ThisisFlight

@Wulf They have performed their full display at Boscombe Down, which I went along and filmed. See ua-cam.com/video/tiRD5W276UU0/v-deo.html
That particular flight was a practice to obtain permission to display to the public. However the routine they flew on that occasion will only be performed at the Royal International Air Tattoo, every other event will get a limited performance like the one at Southport.

It was a good display but far too short, only did a few minutes of formation flying.

It's all they had fuel for, they were operating from the south of England and had about 350 miles of transit to cover. As I speculated to another commenter, I do suspect this was a manufactured problem, to make sure RIAT gets the only "proper" show and to stop other events from stealing their thunder, like in 2012.
