so gta 6 will live just long enough for things to seem like they're all going to be ok only to be absolutely shredded into bits by corporate greed? you know, this analogy might just work
I don't think that people necessarily are tired of games because Rockstar spins years nearly decades on working on their games. I think the biggest issue that Gamers have with games nowadays is the fact that they all get pushed out what seems like under yearly Cycles and come out absolutely buggy. I think the biggest example of this being Cyberpunk 2077 or even Battlefield 2042. And and I personally believe the reason why games are pushed to release so quickly too is so there's less money being spent on the development process and more money being earned through microtransactions through the game which we see that Rockstar had so much success with with Sharkcards.
100% correct. I do believe yearly releases for popular games just cannibalizes the industry, the developers sales of the next game and even beyond. I'm an adult with a job and it's kind of taxing to try and "PAY" (who, me? not happening) for a "season pass" and try to experience it all within IDK, 2 months? And then the whole game is out of support (updates/season/drought of content) because either the next game is in development or we're close to release date, and I'm supposed to be happy about all my progress and "cosmetics" going down the drain? It's just a huge FOMO money making machine imho. Should Activision change game every 2 years, there would be less crunch for the developers, quality would soar and the market wouldn't be so saturated with COD. Should Ubisoft lift their foot out of the pedal, and release a new Assassin's Creed game every two years as well, the games wouldn't be so buggy, the content would be much better and I might had purchased at full price, instead of waiting for a sale, which is what most people do, as I did last time (Valhalla). What I mean is, there is such thing as a backlog, and plenty of people like to do things in order. But then, time constraints, and life gets in the way. You miss one, and just never go back to it.
3:10 I dont expect games to have the same level of rockstar, I expect triple A games to have at least the same level/ if not more compared to their older games, but with at least slightly better graphics. Literally when growing up, each console generation would bring games that push graphics, and have more gameplay/content available for the player. But ever since the PS4/Xbox one it seems that only graphics are getting push while the amount of content/gameplay from triple A studios have either stay the same compared to xbox 360/ps3 era or had less to offer.
Let's not forget the contribution of Epic Games , Fortnite and PUBG. They also got multiple studios closed after they tried to copy the free to play business model.

@@Young_Barkley spoilers are spoilers, there are a lot of things that can happen for someone to not be able to play an old game or watch an old movie... for example: the immense amount of entertainment content that the world has, to the point that one can't watch/play everything because it's just too much. No need to be rude about that.
The industry is bigger and stronger than ever and also keeps growing, it might not be the best for the player, but Rockstar ain't killing nothing. Also Dan houser left in 2020, with the production of GTA6 starting in 2013 and the full production starting atleast in 2015. I'd assume most of the writing and game direction was done by 2020. Drawing parallels between Dutch and Sam is also wild to me, since Dan and Sam still have a great relationship and Dan also said he would be there to take an advisory role for important decisions. It's not like he left the company because of the environment, he just made his money, lost his passion and thought it might be a good time to call it (probably even because his job with gta 6 was pretty much done)
Right? There click bait bs seems to completely overlook the fact that videogames are one of the biggest forms of media consumed across the planet raising unbelievable amounts of money, with new games being released weekly. Evidently they have no concept of “death” 😂
I'm not saying you are wrong about the other things, but where do you have this idea that full production started in 2015? The team was split between stripping the planned content for the singleplayer into GTA Online and the other half working on RDR2. Its possible that Dan wrote the core story before he left and then they just have to rewrite it for things that will no longer make sense. But one of the reasons GTA6 took so long was at one point Dan said that it was hard to write satire because of how reality had become satire. In 2018 Dan said in an interview: "It’s really unclear what we would even do with it (talking about GTA6), let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did."
@dcworld4349 I looked it up real quick and I was assuming the studios working on rdr2 were independent from those working on GTA6, but apparently all Rockstar studios worked on rdr2 at the time. Though I would guess that didn't affect Dan and other writers too much. Also I did not really dig into interviews, but from what you said I would rather say Dan was unhappy because of cultural and political change limiting him and not because of strauss zelnick and Sam

If game has story and offline and online mode I would be happy to play and pay. If I have to pay for game then pay in game transitions I will try to stay away from this games, especially if it has in game transaction for single player game If game is free but has in game transaction but not pay2win I am happy to play. Always this just just my personal opinion on this matter. If everyone would follow some kind of rules of buying games the gaming companies would have to change their ways to stay afloat.

@@detto1998 I never said rdr2 was a disappointment.. its a great game.. And yes the trailer was well received, but it absolutely doesn't show anything. Or tell us anything about the game besides 2 protagonists, and where the game will take place. If I remember correctly borderlands 3 was the same way. Hyped up til launch where people realize the story is garbage. Or at least it's how I remember it. Though I would be glad if you prove me wrong. Look at ubisoft, EA, Rocksteady. They used to make peak games, but now make only slop. Rockstar isn't safe from having the same thing happen to them. Though only part I would think be lacking in GTA6 is the story. Other than that I could see it be excellent in comparison. But the story can drag something with amazing gameplay to unplayable. Like how I feel for borderlands 3. Though the online part might fare better. At least for singleplayer I still say it's going to be mixed.
There is a term, which I keep repeating, yet no one seems willing to seriously discuss in relation to video games. Yet it goes a long way toward explaining why there is such a dissonance between how games, “publishers,” and games studios prioritise things and the priorities of games consumers. That term I keep using? “ART FORM.” That is what’s being lost here. It is always the games with unique worlds, interesting stories, compelling characters, plots that make sense and don’t break the internal logic of the world and which are valid pieces of ARTISTIC EXPRESSION that succeed! Not games that hijack a franchise to lecture its audience on what to think, how to behave or what is important in life. And not games that are insultingly transparent in their attempts to establish an ongoing financial, “relationship,” with the player (I can’t think of anything worse) which they call, “engagement,” but which merely means data mining, data scraping and constant attempts to get more of your time and MONEY out of you, while they turn YOU into the, “product,” by selling all of your personal information, far beyond your playing habits, but including your employment status, bank records, criminal history, etc. to the highest bidder! The irony is that companies can actually do all of that, with the tacit blessing of the customer IF they sell them a product that registers with audiences as ART! And GTA5 is an illustrative example of just that. People love the GTA characters, that world, the freedoms they have to do what they like in it, the chaos and the order, because it, “feels,” real to them. The stakes are high, the characters are compelling, the bonuses, “feel,” worth it, because they CARE about what happens to them in that world and what they can achieve in it. That is ART. In the same way that movies are an art form that achieves its aims by collaborating with a range of art forms toward one final, diegetic experience: background music, lighting effects, acting, script writing, sound technicians, you name it. It’s all there in a video game. And you can do that well, or you can screw it up, but in the end, like with movies and TV, it is either, “good,” or, “bad,” art. And if the makers of games would just try to remember that one, simple fact, they would make banger after banger. What Take Two showed us was that you have to make the art FIRST. And if you have people flocking to playing your game because it is a great work of art, you are THEN and ONLY THEN in a position to parley that successful work of art into an ongoing revenue stream. You really DON’T NEED to start out with player, “engagement,” and a, “monetisation,” model as the design of your game. In fact, if you really want to get richer than GOD, you should eschew anything that looks or even smells a bit exploitative from the outset. Make ART and then you can easily get your ongoing revenue stream going. Start out with a live service model (especially if you’re converting what people are used to playing as a single player experience) and you’re destined to fail. And, if you want to make art, you have to hire ARTISTS. The writers, graphical artists, sculptors and painters who are trained and committed to telling great STORIES with compelling characters in a world that is exciting to inhabit. Publishers, because they are investment firms first, always miss this and put the cart before the horse. That doesn’t bother them because they can recoup any losses by killing the studios they forced to make some live service slop against their will in the first place. Which is why the pattern repeats. Until it hurts the publishers, we will never see this change.
When I heard the name Strauss 6 years ago on the first playthrough I got exactly this idea that this was Dan's mention to Strauss zelnick of him being greedy
You know I feel not only gaming industry, but also mobile phones and other devices have changed the same way to worse. I mean CoD only releases skins and the same game every year with a subtle change (We were all ok with it until the game just turned into senseless grinding).
Rockstar hasn't "turned" into a company motivated by green instead of creativity by pushing content for GTA online instead of V's campaign, they obviously need funding for their games. When you plan on funneling millions to develop a game for over a decade, you need to support your current cash cows. The singleplayer DLC post-release content business model just doesn't work anymore
Funny, Upper Echelon Gaming once predicted Genshin would ruin video gaming... But Chinese games exist in their own ecosystem and making profits while Western games repeatedly shooting themselves on the foot with nothing but themselves to blame...
Nah, the ruin comes from microtransactions, live-service/for exploitative profit game design, huge game dev teams that create bloat and friction, more milktoast products of pure bureaucratic creativity, and lastly over emphasis on realistic graphics and "hold my baby hands" mechanics instead of gameplay to attract as many braindead causuals with the widest net possible.
I saw this problem coming all the way in 2011 with BF3. As much as I loved playing it online, I knew that it wasn't going to capture that charm forever. I originally bought the game because I thought that everything you're able to do online would be in single-player. And how fucking disappointed I was when I saw that it wasn't at all. I turned out to be more right than I thought today. So damn disappointing.
Feel like online gaming ruined the industry because eventually rockstar realised they could make a sub par product and people would still play it online out of habit more than joy and also they would pay to play with additional ads ins like shark cards ect . Look at the quality of missions online compared to story mode made 10 years ago

5:10 Dan Whoser…😂
4:56 You had me panicking there. ahahahaha 😂🤣
this is a generel issue not just games
6:50 woah woah woah hold up the phone hold up the phone boy, leslie benzies didnt leave because he wanted to leave no he was on sabbatical and when he came back they didnt wanna give him his cut of the profits the cut he deserved so he was fired not by jis own hand but because they gave him no choice when he also said that they needed to focus on gta online more, the houser brothers disagreed and fired him, technically it was announced that "he left" butt the story behind closed doors is a bit darker then that, rockstar cut him out of the picture and focused on online mode anyway, in which shortly there after a few more employees left due to the hipocritical nature of take2 and rockstar as a whole do not get that mixed up
One of the most underrated channels I have ever seen, just earned a sub. Hope you get the recognition you deserve.
AAA industry is a dumpster fire, however Indie and AA is thriving.
Thanks for not including spoiler warning, just as I was about to experience RDR2 story for the first time. All those years I was able to dodge spoilers until this day. Press F.
It's been 7 years since it's release, that's 100% your problem. Complaining about spoilers for a 7 year old game is peak entitlement
It sucks that people assume that because the game is 6 years old everyone on earth already played it. The same happened to me and even tho the story is fantastic and you should still play it if you can, having the ending spoiled ruins most of the emotional weight. I feel you man
@@nou.1007 people shouldn't have to walk on eggshells to avoid spoilers for dated content just for people like you. It's a YOU problem, cry about it
I love spoilers. I'm gonna share more!
Seriously, Spoilers are a good thing, especially if you playing and experience the story for the first time!
@ajburt1998 it's not even click bait, they really mean it and talk about it in the video aswell, but they're just wrong
@@dcworld4349 in the same interview he said he's glad that GTA VI won't launch in a Trump presidency and well... 😭😭😭😭
I learned what an AAA game was around the release of GTA 5 ironically. Right before new release games reeeeally hit the downhill
Its an interesting theory
Honestly huge respects to dan if thats true
Well made! would have liked it to be a little longer video
actually astonished, that was such a well put together and concise breakdown, i honestly thought i was on channel with thousands of subscribers, you're gonna hit 10k in like a month or two, i'd almost guarantee
Dude , you're so underrated , u deserve more subs
3:05 what is the tile of that animation?
we got rockstar destroying the gaming industry (including themselves) before gta 6
This man is a genius. To get your video sent to a bigger audience, you need lots of comments. By mispronouncing names and terms, he got tons of comments. Kudos to you, Sr.
I thought this channel would have alot of subscribers based on video quality, but imagine my suprise when i saw you only had 256 subscribers. instant sub
that metal slug Bg score......😂🤣😂🤣😂😅
Dan left with pride his stories will forever remain in our hearts
1:00 We need the Gif of Bryan Cranston angrily going "Are you actually THIS stupid!?"
You are SERIOUSLY underestimating how hard companies will try to do as little as possible for profit. Starfield and Star Wars Outlaws weren't released that long ago.
That Straus Zelnik analogy with Leopold Straus is spot on, and makes total sense! 😏 I can imagine Rockstar writers being well-read humane creative altruists who just want to make good games, and this constant push for infinitive growth and Zelnik's greedy nature could have been the influence for RDR2's story.
Glad to be your 70th sub!
I would not love GTA if not it's mods and it's community, and looks like the killed a lot of modders who where modding sick gta project just to be killed by take2 more like trash2, and even if they kill some mods because they would release trilogy edition even that flopped xD, sure they fixing it now but hello it took you that long to actually try to fix it lol.
The way I look at this now:
If game is always online and I have to pay at start full amount not buying it at all, unless I buy it really cheap.
If game has story and offline and online mode I would be happy to play and pay.
If I have to pay for game then pay in game transitions I will try to stay away from this games, especially if it has in game transaction for single player game
If game is free but has in game transaction but not pay2win I am happy to play.
Always this just just my personal opinion on this matter. If everyone would follow some kind of rules of buying games the gaming companies would have to change their ways to stay afloat.
This is a really good channel and I can see you going far. I know a lot of people will say not to give up. And it's really true. Keep on grinding bro. You'll make it.
you are actually very right about this RDR2 was the Last passion project for Rockstar Old Devs if RDR2 wasn't approved they would've left the company in 2014 or 2015 and literally immediately after the release of RDR2 they All left some even left before the game release RDR2 was probably the Best release of a modern game the most Polished and running perfectly game on Release on PS4 Pro v1.00 is literally Perfect
keep up the work brother i didnt notice i was watching small youtuber channel
5:12 dan houser finished writing the story for gta6 before leaving
6:48 leslie Benzies was unfairly kicked out of the studio by the houser brothers
wait, I think I saw your channel that also discussing something about games a few months ago
This guy is going to rise up, the video was great
Greed is killing gaming social media doesn't help everyone has an opinion on making games but cant make kool aide
bro this video is just FIRE, how is this dude at 707 subs, i made it 708 but still tho INSANE W
1:46 bruh that’s the 2018 survivor shadow of the tomb raider lara, tho the 2013 survivor one is goated
Rockstar killed itself -> GTA6 will be probably the most succesfull game ever created. I'm not even a fan it's just that clear.
GTA 6 might also be a wet noodle and the biggest disappointment in video game history. Nothing is infallible.
@@space.raider.2271 I think at least in term of public perception with the current track record, and how rockstar and parent company has been lately. I think GTA6 will receive mixed reviews
@@space.raider.2271 you see, when you put 2 billion dollars on something there is little to not chance for it to flop. too big to fail to put it simply
@@サイバー狼 Yeah the first trailer with it's 220 million views, small amount of dislike ratio really showed the world how mixed the reception will be. Their last game Red Dead Redemption 2 was just as big of a dissapointment right?
You earned a sub buddy! Never compromise on this quality content!
The gaming industry is doing just fine and it has definitely not been killed.
Gamers did. We buy garbage, we empower these people. I broke the cycle for myself, i refuse to be a part of this anti consumer cycle
There is a term, which I keep repeating, yet no one seems willing to seriously discuss in relation to video games. Yet it goes a long way toward explaining why there is such a dissonance between how games, “publishers,” and games studios prioritise things and the priorities of games consumers. That term I keep using? “ART FORM.”
That is what’s being lost here.
Bro I just want a finished game.
Companies now release games WORSE than their predecessors in the same franchise. Constantly!
When I heard the name Strauss 6 years ago on the first playthrough
I got exactly this idea that this was Dan's mention to Strauss zelnick of him being greedy
Only 100 subs yet Tripple AAA content?
Bruh, consider me a day one fan, cause I am subscribing to you. Let's GOOOO!!!
You know I feel not only gaming industry, but also mobile phones and other devices have changed the same way to worse. I mean CoD only releases skins and the same game every year with a subtle change (We were all ok with it until the game just turned into senseless grinding).
i am your 245 subscriber remember me when you become millionaire youtube
The fact that GTA VI is arriving next year, one questions why this video was made at all.
Absolutely correct, shit has got so bad am replaying old games. You earned a subscriber form India 🤝🏼🙏🏼
Funny, Upper Echelon Gaming once predicted Genshin would ruin video gaming...
But Chinese games exist in their own ecosystem and making profits while Western games repeatedly shooting themselves on the foot with nothing but themselves to blame...
*Rockstar better knock it out the park with GTA6 or it's gonna be Trouble trouble* 💀
Dan Hoozer💀💀💀
Things come to an end which opens up for new beginnings.
imagine the awesome single players expansions we could've seen for RDR2 had Rockstar not become greedy...
Bro I was enjoying the vid until I saw your subs count, you deserve way more
I know people might say this is a reach for the points you made but they do make sense. Hope asmon gold reacts to this.
With the RDR 2 Conspiracy bro was just yapping...
you are underrated
Nah, the ruin comes from microtransactions, live-service/for exploitative profit game design, huge game dev teams that create bloat and friction, more milktoast products of pure bureaucratic creativity, and lastly over emphasis on realistic graphics and "hold my baby hands" mechanics instead of gameplay to attract as many braindead causuals with the widest net possible.
133rd sub brother, keep up the excellent work.
This guy is a ubisoft secret agent
Feel like online gaming ruined the industry because eventually rockstar realised they could make a sub par product and people would still play it online out of habit more than joy and also they would pay to play with additional ads ins like shark cards ect . Look at the quality of missions online compared to story mode made 10 years ago
this video will definitely go viral
Discrediting rockstar when they’ve released GTA V, Read Dead Redemption 2 over these past few years and GTA VI next year all which have been highly anticipated, popular games that end up being successful and loved by millions. I feel bad for the morons who waste 9 minutes watching this video
I agree he's just yapping about nothing.
Yes, those are good but really over-hyped games carried by name and reputation of cuckstar.
Amazing vid!! this needs to blow up
It’s cool to see that RE is still the same good game
GTA now is live service game, even GTA VI game for modern audience.
So whenever someone says games were better back then, it's more than just nostalgia lol.
still waiting for chess 2
More gamers than ever. Rockstar hasn’t destroyed gaming. They couldn’t. Theres a whole world out there that doesn’t involve open world rockstar games
You're wrong on one major point. This trend you speak of started well before gta5
