    I recognize (or at least it seems to me that) these videos are posted by and watched by mostly women, which is just fine. However, I am just kind of a messy guy with a deep longing to be a clean and tidy guy. (Secretly, I think my wife is hoping for the same transformation in me.) Keeping tidy has been a struggle for me, I will admit. I really like your videos. They are happy and helpful. Thanks. It's great to see siblings who hang out and really seem to like each other. Thanks for all the cleaning tips and encouragement. Cheers, Steve

      I think you should do Cas Clutterbug Quiz and find out your organizing style. Not only you could benefit from it - maybe also your wife does. I‘m a hiding cricket and married a visualizing bee. Now I know that, I can help us both to be more a team in organization.

      @@samanthabarron8481 Thank you for your kind reply. Actually, I am doing well (as is my wife, Darlene) :). There is sooo much to catch up on though - cleaning wise... ahhhhh! I was working on my PhD and just finished. (It took me 12 years because my parents were older, and they both got sick. Then my brother got sick, and I could not very well work on my dissertation (which had a lot to do with the importance of kindness) and not help out my family when they needed me the most. Sadly, everyone passed away, but on the bright side, because I was there I was able to help my brother reconcile with my parents and all three of them passed at peace with themselves, each other, and God (which was important to them). Now, that I am finished with my work (since 30 Nov 2023) I have been working on my yard, garage, basement, bedrooms, everything. :) And, I still love your videos. They keep me company when I work. :) Thanks. (Sorry for the long note.) All my best, Steve

      I’m confused. When you say “ clean” do you really mean tidy?
      It’s just in the UK clean is to wipe worktops etc down, or hoovering etc. But in the US it seems to mean tidying.

    Utensils have categories too. I use “HOT” for any used by the stove: cooking spoons, tongs, ladels, flipper spatula, hot pads
    “CUTTING’” tools are most efficient by the sink:knives, peelers, can openers, ice cream scoops, pizza cutter kitchen shears, ice pick (optional) add your favorite cutting board & colander.
    MIX CENTER: measuring cups, spoons, rubber spatula, whisk, mixing spoon , mixer, bowl

      Marijke Köhler My local grocery store has been taken over by Kroger and Kroger is eliminating the small jars of spices. I live in the downtown area of a medium size city with lots of empty nesters and young people who do not need or use the large quantity containers. Seems a waste because the herbs lose flavor before we can use them.

    Dawn your kitchen videos in your home have inspired me and I've organized my Ikea cabinet that I use as my pantry with pull out bins from Target, labeled.. Its so beautiful I open it daily just to look at it. I've also purged and organized my mugs and glasses (2 shelves worth) and after living with that for a while now know I can purge more mugs. I'm 60 and grew up with a hoarder. mom so never learned how to purge or organize. There are tons of YT videos, but yours have just truly resonated with me and I feel that I'm learning so much from you. My goal is a clean, organized ENTIRE home. Doubt I'll ever obtain minimalism but I am definitely getting rid of lots of items and it feels so good!

      I’m close to finished on a whole-home remodel. Living here the whole time. I did one minor purge of the rooms as each was boxed up. I found that only keeping 4 or 5 plastic bags for back up is all I needed. I recycle the rest of them at my local grocery store. Using reusable bags also cuts down on so much clutter of bags but if you get grocery delivery then you don't have a choice! Maybe one day!

    • @warblingsongbird5530
      @warblingsongbird5530 5 років тому +1

      I’m learning to make plarn (plastic yarn). You cut strips of the grocery bags and crochet them into rugs and bags. I was told my local grocery just puts them in the trash when brought back so I knew I had to find a use for the buggars! Kids/teenagers like the bags.

    • @digispace1
      @digispace1 3 роки тому

      You can also connect plastic shopping bags together and put them in recycled containers like empty tissue boxes or coffee cans with the lid cut like a canister of wipes. (ua-cam.com/video/GdgN2mhzhyU/v-deo.html). Food pantries often use plastic bags. They would love to have them, probably. I donated some that way before. Garbage bags for the bathroom or just recycling them are good, too.

      @@sheffieldjcondo4828 I agree. I sometimes go to Aldi's or Save-a-Lot and don't want to buy a bag because I already have so many. I also don't want to grab an empty box off the shelf because I don't want to deal with getting rid of it when I get home, either.

    In my baking area, I have a bin with salt, baking powder, baking soda and cream of tartar. When I'm making a cake or cookies, it's so handy to pull these out together, ready to measure, and put them away just as easily. I love my label maker, and making labels for my bins is my payoff when I've finished. The labels make it easy for everyone in the family to see at a glance what's in the bin, and also know where to put things back. In my pantry, I have a labeled row of cheap bins with handles for granola bars, cookies, candy, seasoning packets, etc.

    You two are ADORABLE! I would LOVE to see a sisters' series. A journey of the good, the bad, and the real-life challenges (Non-Religious would be nice). Great video.

    Thanks for taking time to encourage us ladies!! I have a pared down kitchen but I have thr slotted flipper and the solid one and use them both daily. So don't feel like you can't have both if you use them. Love you ladies.

    Tom's comment about the state of the kitchen affecting his stress level hit me so hard. This is so true for my husband. It just compounds his overwhelm. Or it sets him up to feel ready to hit the day. As a result I woke up at 5 today (watched this last night) and cleared the counters and flat surfaces like we're staged to sell. And he noticed immediately.

    I love this, Dawn! I love to see how you question Diana about "do you need 2 ...." etc. It is like you are beside me while I look through my kitchen. Thank you Diana for being the surrogate "me". :-)

    I have been watching your videos all summer & I have been working at decluttering and simplify my house. Yesterday I cleaned out the food cabinets and ended up having room to store away the toaster & a few other items off the counter! 🎉☺️
    Thank you for the inspiration!

    I did this a while ago at my mom's house after hubby and I moved in to help take care of her. We had things that we wouldn't use and my mom had so many things that she didn't even know she had! LOL However, today I redid the pantry, taking things out of their original containers and placing them in containers with labels. Much more room and way more organized. Relaxing now and I came upon your video. Enjoyed watching you declutter. Love your videos! 💜

    Yes, we DO need support and can benefit in receiving it from others :D I have gotten my support from your channel, as it is what first motivated and inspired me to clear off my kitchen counters which led to cabinet organization, etc. Dawn, you have said that you are not the organized person who loves to clean and organize but you have sure redeemed yourself in this respect:) :) You are a wonderful inspiration and you have such creative ideas mixed with practical wisdom and no-nonsense advice. What a fun encouragement you have been to Diana! Diana, your kitchen looked beautiful before and now it is even moreso.. and clean and clutter-free! I just love those acrylic bins. I have been searching for the flat kind for our utensil drawer and now, am thinking about getting (2) after seeing this. Plus, after watching this, I managed to find (1) spatula from our already decluttered utensil drawer, the same one as Diana's! Diana, you SHOULD be proud of your kitchen and Dawn, you are so sweet to carve time out of your day to make this video with Diana in such a timely manner! I loved it as always. :)

    Each time I watch one of your videos I get rid of more stuff, after 46 years of marriage I may never be as minimalist as you but I am getting my stuff under control. When my children, grandchildren ask me what I want for a present my response is, anything I don’t have to dust!

    I know I still need to get rid of more from our kitchen, but so far I feel so proud of myself for making things more orderly! It is truly amazing what a difference it makes to put like things together in little bins or baskets because it saves space for sure, you just pull it down to look for what you need!
    Also, I was so happy you switched up the utensil drawer to put the longway items in front -- I was thinking the same 😄
    This is so inspiring to actually watch because the satisfaction of seeing it done brings on motivation to face our little stressful spaces! Thank you both for sharing!!

    Love your videos and great tips for decluttering and living better.
    I divide dishes in the cabinets into cooking and serving. I have several drawers for cooking implements and have a drawer for eating and serving utensils, a drawer for cooking and food prep utensils, and another drawer for special tools that aren't used often or aren't utensils.

    I am so thankful that I found you. The first video I believe that I watched was something about decluttering. I have a lot of clutter but now it is diminishing, Praise God! You mentioned one bag a day. And that's how I started. But thanks again. I am a fan!

    As I've simplified my kitchen I find it so much easier to clean as I go when I cook. I still have to work at it, but having to wash as I go since I have less utensils (etc). I know I could let go of a bit more, but I think I'm doing great!

    I was going to comment about switching the bin and the loose cooking utensils, I was scrolling down and you came back and said it!😂
    I like the idea of whatever utensils you use only at Christmas to put with Christmas bins! Great tip.

It's so nice that you gals have each other. Someone to help out, keep you accountable and keep you company. Count your Blessings! Thanks for the nice work here!

    Oh you hit it on the head with what you said about feeling like life is in order if the kitchen is. Currently we are having back splash tile installed and everything is on my kitchen table and my stove is pulled out. Now this shouldn't take as long as it has but the first guy we hired basically abandoned the job, the second guy is doing a good job just taking forever! So anyways...luckily I had already gone through my kitchen and thinned things down but it still feels like I can't take it anymore! We've been living this way for several weeks. Love your videos! So very helpful!

    I have started to declutter my kitchen this morning. I just got a free-standing pantry shelf and I have started to pull a lot of the canned food out of the cupboards. I have never realized how much stuff I have jammed into them and how many items are going to expire soon. I can honestly say that I'm glad that I can go through all of the things and see what I actually need when I go grocery shopping.
