If you need 7 seats, you need 7 seats. I used to have a 7-seater, and while driving my daughters to dance rehearsals etc, it was amazing how often every seat was filled with their friends.
The full size 3 row SUV market has barely been addressed, so it looks like the EV9 is designed to compete with the R1S. It's unlikely that Rivian can get their manufacturing costs down in the next 2 years, so Kia has an opportunity here, assuming they are not selling at a loss. R1S is fast, but I'm doubtful that full size 3 row purchasers are looking at the drag racing specs as primary.
Rivian is small. And what I hear they haven’t addressed the air compressor noise in cabin along with crappy ride handling ( check videos as they all confirm ) that the ride is crap at higher speeds and very unstable. Rivian is great if they don’t go bust. Yet that headlight really has to go. It’s spells goof all over it
I think it's a smart move by Kia. The Power to Weight ratio might be an issue, but they did announce the GT version which should be capable enough. The design looks good. Then again, the Telluride is also a good looking full size SUV and it's clear they took many styling cues from it. A promising car overall and with the right pricing, it should be a hit.
The 0.28 coefficient is likely real. Remember that it is a factor you multiply the size by to get the effective size. The clever shape prevents vortexes but the thing is still huge.
Hey Sam, Do you know if it will have vehicle to home (V2H)? I really want my expensive electric car to be dual-purpose as a home backup with bi-directional charging - like the Ford F150 Lightning.
No one needs that… great gimmick that would only be used to power a cabin for a day and ride out. In theory it sounds like all the problems solved of not having solar or battery. Just get solar or battery.
@@scottmcshannon6821 My Ioniq 5 can support the vital functions (freezer, fridge, cooking, heating and hot water) of my home for a few days. Wouldn't work in North America tho, due to crappy home electrification design. Should be enough to keep the fridge and freezer alive and for cooking too.

I know the model Y is a 'cramped' 7-seater with a back row only suitable for kids. But as the MY 7-seater is not available outside of the US, the EV9 is in prime position to dominate this market. Well done Kia!
Thanks Sam. I am not crazy about many of Hyundai's or Kia ICE powertrains as they have questionable longevity, but their EV lineup is looking great even if not enough volume yet. Great review sir!
This is awesome! But... I know it won't be affordable. What I really want is a space-efficient minivan type EV. I'm not going off-road so don't need that capability at all.
Can't wait to replace my old Ford pickup with a Tesla Cybertruck. Kia EV9 looks good, but I live in the north east USA where cars rust away long before they wear out. I need a stainless steel beast.
Looks decent..... the next ev i buy to complement my model Y will need to tow 2t+ for 250km+ and have 6/7 seats. How long will I be waiting and driving my toyota highlander for?
Recently started watching and enjoying your channel. Hope your wife gets all the help she needs. But gotta lol at the tesla bias. Give a thumbs up to the cybertruck's availability while giving a meh to the ev9 level 3 availability. To be fair, it should be meh to both. Plus the vault is not like a true suv whatsoever. It's a much much more expensive tonneau cover, so the CT should be cross shopped with gas trucks the way ev9's towing is being compared with gas suv's.
I have been waiting for a higher spec Ute to be released by any EV manufacturer in AUS with equivalent range and towing ability plus some interior comforts with less hard plastic. I would love a Rivian and have ordered one 2 years ago on Amazon lol ? I will order an EV9 delivery April 2024. My local Kia dealer will not offer any kind of deal and holds fast to $144,000-00 for a GTline in White. Yeah Nah looks like a fridge. I have ordered an Ocean Blue Matt EVGT. NOT from the local dealer for thousands less
I wonder if Cory Steuben from Munro Live would consider one. He did say the Rivian R1S is too small for his neck of the woods so probably the Hummer EV SUV or this would fit the bill
WLTP range ratings are a pipe dream! Real world take about 30% off. Real world range on the ev9 100kw/h will be about 400km about 280km on the smaller battery. With 2500kg on the tow bar range will drop to ~200km depending on Aero. Id love kia to go to lfp battery's - im not buying this older battery tech.
Top speed is irrelevant. It will go well over 100MPH for a few minutes then the battery will either overheat or be out of charge. If that is your use case, get a Model X P100D and stay TF out of my town
I see the EV9 as a people-mover, a "soccer mom" car, and wonder how it's seen as an SUV; where's the S part? It's not even sold with sporty claims, but portrayed as comfortable and roomy, more a smart van than anything else.
It's got instant torque - will accelerate smartly. That 8 sec. to 60 mph will feel a lot faster than you think. Most people never use 100% throttle in their gassers. With an EV, I can thrash it without worry. My 2012 Volt has a 0-60 mph spec. of 8.9 sec. and feels way quicker than that. The instant torque allows me to zoom around slow pokes in a way I wouldn't dare do in my faster specwise minivan because it feels slower and doesn't respond as quickly to throttle inputs. I wish it were a minivan: lower, more aerodynamic, smaller wheels, no off-road pretense, lighter weight, and better interior space for people and cargo.
97 inches is not that long, maybe 197, or ...omg...297 thats a short bus.....and it looks like one.......but I like the style...but ...never would by anything that honking big......love your show btw.
Once again.. CT is not guaranteed to come with a mid gate. Sure everyone’s hopeful. But don’t be surprised if it doesn’t. They’ve never said it will. Elon thought it was a good recommendation.. but they’ve never said it is definitely in the production model
Yeah, that certainly isn't enough to creep along US motorways @75mph, but in other markets that's basically irrelevant. Unlikely this will even be offered in USA.
Sorry, but I have been waiting for an electric car for my work driving on bad roads and difficult terrain where I need towing capasity of 3500 kg (7700 lbs) where the range of course is a problem out in the woods and the mountains.
