    I owned the first Niro EV in St. Louis 3 plus years ago - put 40,000 miles on it, not 1 issues - loved it, my first EV!! We just upgraded to the Ev6 and have owned 6 KIA's over the years, Rio, Sportage, Sedona, Forte, Niro, Telluride - love them all for price and durability. This vehicle looks great and has so many features for the money! The only thing I do NOT love are the wheels - but that is so minor. We will trade the Telluride for one of these soon I am sure! KIA is the only brand I buy! Never and issue!

      yeah I agree, at close to $80K they are competing against the Model X and Rivian R1S, both of which have air suspension, are much faster, have longer range and more. If the GT Line was $62K it would be really hard to beat.

    • @cranburydad
      @cranburydad 8 місяців тому +3

      @@Aegisx5Rivian has more range but The X’s real world range is pretty similar to the EV9. Came in a little lower in Edmunds test while the EV9 exceeded EPA by 34 miles. The Rivian and C still come in over $10k more. And it’s a feature trade off. I would use the Kia’s CarPlay every drive while the 1 sec faster 0-60 is a novelty that’s fun but would rarely be used. I like the look of the Rivian more and it has more cargo capacity but between CarPlay and Kia’s amazing regen control it’s pulling ahead even if they had been price neutral. Better warranty that Rivian (dual motor) or Tesla too.

      It’s not about it being a KIA. It’s about mediocre specs for this price. The battery should have been 130 kWh, and then we could have a conversation about the price. The RWD with 200HP? For this size SUV? Seriously, KIA? If it were 350 HP RWD with 130 kWh battery with the EPA range at 400 miles, it would be a very compelling vehicle at this price even being a KIA.

    I live down south of Denver and yet I have bought two vehicles (2022 Carnival and 2023 EV6) from Fort Collins Kia over the past two years due to terrible experiences trying to deal with other Kia dealerships in the greater Denver Metropolitan area. They treat you like an actual person and are not super pushy, even in the back office. The person I worked with to buy my EV6 actually knew something about EVs, which was definitely not the case with other dealerships (other Kia, VW, and Hyundai) besides Tesla when I was test driving various vehicles a few months ago before buying my EV6.
    About the car though, I really like the concept of the EV9, but with several young kids, I can't imagine buying a car that doesn't have sliding doors. Here is hoping Kia either releases a full EV van or they at least do a plug-in hybrid Carnival in the future.

    Thanks Kyle and Alyssa for an honest review I'm in regional Australia and we don't have any start ups or local or imported equivalents due to hit our market till 2028....So I have a Kia ev9 GT Line on order for 2024 May delivery. I have been patiently waiting for an EV with the range and power & charging capability specs to tow a caravan. It also has to accommodate my 4 dogs. Australia only has a bench seat version available in the GT Line which suits me fine but I think families would love the option of the swivel captains mid row seats for Baby capsules. My criteria was V2Grid/home/load although Australia is very behind with the option to do this. I purchased a Leaf in 2020 as it was the only EV capable of V2home. The geeky stuff is important when comparing brands or fulfilling expectations of a fit for purpose EV. So appreciate your reviews over the years.

    Great review as usual guys. Love that we're hearing so much of Alyssa's perspective these days as well. I think I share the perspective that Kia keeps surprising us with steps up the ladder in quality, styling, new ideas, etc. given that old timers like myself can remember the entry level cars Kia/Hyundai focused on in my youth. They seem to be moving a bit from the approach of copying the competition by making comparable cars that win on price to one where they are now taking the design and production lead, especially in the EV space. Hopefully their cars won't start to price their traditional customers out of the market going forward.

      What’s funny to me is,e, is how so many folk forget Honda, Mazda, and Toyota had the same progression. They were the Japanese junk back in the 70’s and 80’s, and Toyota now owns the world market. Nobody in America wanted to even sell the cars except one dude in California, and A,Erica’s car dealers talked about him like a dog. He was scorned for peddling that “Asian Crap”….. Give Kia/Hyundai a few more years. They’re killing the tech/features/luxury game for the buck. All they need now is stability in the reliability and they’ll definitely be ahead of the pack. Their overall value cannot be beat, but it’s gonna take more reliability to lift their resale value.

So far in the test the charge curve in the 99.8kW battery is ridiculously good and keeps a average charging speed in a -15 degree celcius from 15 to 80% at over 180kWs. And i've had it peak at 216kW even spec sheet says 210kW. That is some mad boss level of charging.

    No “dog mode” but “Utility Mode” is a kin to it. Meant for staying inside the vehicle currently you need a mechanical key to lock/unlock the vehicle after exiting. I’ve used it in our IONIQ 5 after checking out of the hotel and before leaving town. Yes I want the vehicle to communicate the temperature or temperature change and directly to anyone looking in the vehicle. Functional but not reassuring is a summary that Hyundai/Kia could address simply. Nice to see a MSRP dealer. 👍🏼 1:15:10

    Kyle, what are your thoughts on the 2 recent cases in Canada where Ioniq5 vehicles were written off following relatively minor impacts with road debris and 60k replacement battery cost quoted? It seems that the GMP design may not have sufficient battery pack ptotection, and a sturdy plate may be required, like the one added to Model S years ago.

    I'm a really big fan of the EV9. It's comfortable and roomy and has solid features. The problem I see though is it seems to be about $5k-10k over what I'd expect and I think I'm not alone there. There are a lot of them on dealer lots and Kia is offering a fairly significant rebate already. I hope it sells well, but I think a lot of people with gas vehicles that are considering this will have a hard time paying $20k more than a comparable Telluride. And if people want an EV, It's not drastically less than a Rivian R1S which seems superior in many ways. There's a lot to unpack, I just hope it does well.

      Gas in the $3s or less, outside California, I think very very few will think spending 70k+ on this is worth it over the ICE offerings. Spending over 40k is even a tough sell when a lot of people's comparable last car 5-10 years ago was probably 20s to low 30s in this segment. I'm thinking my parents and family members not making corporate or tech money, no way they could afford something like this and I think that applies to a lot of America.

    I would love to see the comparison between the EV9, the model X and the R1S. I’m considering all three as a replacement for my current tow vehicle. Contenders must be able to tow a minimum of 5000 pounds and have a towing range of at least 125 miles.

    • @jeffreygeiger3824
      @jeffreygeiger3824 8 місяців тому +3

      These three SUV's are amazing and you can't really go wrong with either, just depends on your needs. If towing is your main goal, out of these 3 options, the R1S is your best bet. The Model X and EV9 can only tow max 5,000. The R1S can tow 7,500, so if 5000 minimum is your must have, really the R1s is your only option. The range between the three while towing will be pretty similar, but the R1S probably has the edge. The only problem with the R1S and EV9 is the public charging network isn't as good as Tesla, but hopefully that will be changing next year; so my unsolicited two cents would be the R1S. The EV9 and R1S have a more usable third row than the X, so if you need to sit more people and really use that third row, I'd rule the X out. We personally have the 3 row X and that 3rd row is just not enjoyable for road trips. As far as features between the R1S and EV9, I'd go for the Rivian because we can see they are frequently doing over the air updates, making chargers, and really striving for a continual better user experience similar to Tesla through app integration and software changes, whereas who knows how much over the air software changes Kia will do.
      TLDR: R1S

    As a family with one EV (Tesla) looking to replace the second car two of the minor inconveniences are real deal killers.
    1. Start stop button isn't a big deal, unless you split driving about 50/50 with a Tesla. At least with our gas car you hear the engine and that reminds you to turn it off. We rented an EV6 and left it on all the time.
    2. I-pedal kicks off (in EV6) whenever you shift into reverse or turn the car on/off. Surprise creep mode when you switch into reverse was such a bummer. Juggling all those regen settings in one car when the Tesla just works would drive me up the wall.
    That's it, two super easy to fix things that shouldn't even be a problem. It will be a great first EV or work well for families that don't swap cars all the time though.

      Funny you should mention that, I was playing around with the infotainment unit and there is a function to fold the seat from there as well as the switch in the back. So I pressed the seat that wasnlt working and it displayed the message "driver seat too far forward" so I move the seat forward a little and it worked. I then tried to show the wife how cleaver I was, and with the front seat virtually touching the steering wheel it doesn't move. So it's definitely a Kia issue. The passenger seat can be way further back and when you the fold switch it moves the passenger seat to a position that doesn't prevent it from folding.

    ALL eGMP cars do NOT “get considerably less range with AWD”. They are rated for less, but if you understand the driving modes and regen options, and do not use Eco mode or use IPedal beyond upbeat driving, you will get close to RWD EPA range in an AWD vehicle. The reason for this is honest EPA submissions, unlike Tesla, and how normal mode disengages the front motor when it isn’t needed.
