  • This video demonstrates how to calculate the Kendall’s coefficient of concordance (Kendall’s W) in SPSS. Kendall’s W is used to determine the degree of agreement between raters when working with ranked data (ordinal level of measurement).

Thanks for the video! A question:
In your example, your test rejected the null hypothesis that the distribution of rater scores was the same across raters, thus indicating that the distributions are different across raters. However the Kendall's W you receive is as you say "reasonable." I would expect a low Kendall's W, close to 0 if you've rejected your null hypothesis that the distribution is the same across raters.
If I make a dummy table with almost identical scores across raters, and then run the test, my p-value=1.0, thus I fail to reject the null hypothesis and thus the distributions of rater scores are the same across raters, but my Kendall's W=.019. If the Kendall's W is the degree of agreement between raters and 1 is complete agreement and 0 is no agreement, why wouldn't my Kendall's W be close to 1 since the scores I give each rater are basically identical? See below for table example:
    Rater 1| Rater 2| Rater 3
    1 2 1
    3 3 3
    4 4 4
    7 7 7
    etc. for 20 rows

Thanks for this incredible video Dr Grande!! It has helped me a lot!!
My research has "I agree/disagree" answers and I thought I could use Kendall's W in order to estimate a concordance.. Can it be possible?

Hi. Thank you for this video. What test can I use to find the degree of agreement for continuous data?

Dr. Grande. Thanks for the video. My data were collected from managers, back-office employees and front office employees of a bank and the format of the questions are ordinal(5 Likert scales), To test the agreement is the Kendall's W appropriate?

Is there a similar test for continuous variable. ie. to test the agreement between raters for a numerical scale ?

Dr Grande what does it mean when you get the Asymp. Sig. of .112? and Kendall" W of .286?

Hello Dr. Grande. Thank you for the wonderful video on how to calculate the Kendall's Level of Concordance using SPSS. For my study, there are 6 raters and 10 items. The calculated Kendall's Co-efficient of Concordance, W is 0.21. How do I interpret this? Is there an acceptable level of concordance? If W is low, does it mean my study is not reliable? Your response would be mostly appreciated.Uju (South Africa)
