thanks for this! I think I FINALLY found a Dove food plot seed I can work with. I dont have a tractor/shredder so sunflowers and Sorgham are out. BUT...i do have a large 52" mower so I think I can make this work!! Its pretty dry here in west texas during summer. From reading, it sounds like this Brown top millet MIGHT work. Opening day is Sep 1st for us, so target planting date of 15 Jun - 1 July sound about right?
Did you have the millet bailed for hay and removed on the initial cut? I’m going to try a field next season. Excellent video and superb idea with the mower!
This is a really good idea. I’ll share this on Living Everyday Outdoor’s.
Thanks
Excellent.... lolol I have a bushel of millet growing from the rain ....on my bird seed.
Came here to learn about using millet as a cover crop, stayed for the interesting content.
Welcome! More millet videos in progress

Yes that does sound about right, your soil conditions and Rain may vary from mine which determines germination rate.
Do you use any pre or post-emergent herbicides on the millet? Thanks for your videos.
I don't use any

🚜🌟👍 It was nice for the wife to loan you the zero turn ! Nicely done! 💪😂
Lol, she didn't know I took it. Shhhh, don't tell her 😁
What type of millet are you spreading.?

Gave the zero turn a good workout.
Yes it did, however that mower is a beast. 32hp vanguard engine on a 60 inch deck, it can cut a lot.
Hi do you spray that millet to kill it then mow?
No I plant it early enough to let it die off. You can spray it as well.
Have you ever figured your cost per bird??? If not, don’t do it! I have and it’s scary!!!! 😂 😝 😆. *new sub
Ohhh no, I know better! However I tell my wife it's very affordable! 😁

How many acres is your field
Whole field is just under 7 acres. I usually only plant 4 or 5 acres in millet.
