My son and his family evacuated to their NC cabin. There was little damage at their address in Tallahassee, but unbelievable damage in the area where their cabin is. God kept them safe, but it took them a long time to cut their way down to the main highway, and they had to take a very roundabout way to get home. We always think that the mountains are a good place to be when a hurricane hits. Usually it is.
So glad you are safe and minor damage. Our house in Valdosta got hit with a giant pine right down the middle. My kids and wife were in the hall and I was looking out the window from the master bedroom when it got really bad And the tree came down. Came through the house and the roof and hit me and knocked me on the floor and I’m all black and blue. I Spent the next morning in the hospital. Kids and wife are all safe. But if our walls hadn’t stopped the fall of the tree from coming all the way down it would have crushed some of my family. I will NEVER stay in a house again through a named storm. Excellent video.. My state gets hit with quite a few tornadoes then we are now the new tornado alley.. In my state, there is a concrete company that makes underground sewage tanks.. They make a storm shelter that weighs one ton.. It is a small room with an Solid metal door.. Ventilation opening. I have it near my home so I can run power in it.. I have electrical backup for power source and can keep track of the storm as it crosses over.. I have spent many hour in that room riding out storm.. Videos, such as yours gives people a better perspective of what they can do to protect their families from such storms..
My heart melt when you said that God is good, you are right young man, God is truly Good. God Bless you and your wife and dogs and your chickens 🙏 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Glad to see you all posting and that everything is generally ok. Sorry about the oak. You did a great job preparing for the hurricane. Everything is clearly well built and everything was secure. Great job.
Oh My Days that sideways driving rain and wind was terrible, so thankful y'all are in as good a shape as you are! As many have mentioned, there's topical products to seal that oak up and it will be OK
I was so scared for you guys. I, too, thought your buildings and home were toast. I also appreciate the update on your parents as I was so concerned about them. A while back, we had a big gust of wind that took our 24-foot-long carport and blew it a couple of hundred feet into a ball. luckily, we got that cut up and hauled away. That wasn't even a storm, just a very strong wind gust. I don't think we'd have come out as luckily as you did had it hit us here in Texas.
It's so good to hear that there are folks that made it through the storm. We're on the Levy/Marion county line, 20 minutes from the coast. We're in a block home, so we had a house full of people (evacuees) from places like Inglis & Crystal River. Those towns experienced major flooding from the surge. Like y'all, we only had some tree damage. We're in the country, too. We moved to this property about 3 years ago from Hernando Beach. Thankfully, we did. We've been told our old house is completely underwater. Here, our worst damage was to our chicken coop. A tree fell right on top of it. Fortunately, I had brought our chickens inside the house. Our coop is not near as structurally sound as yours. Our chickens would have died as that tree fell right on top of their roost bars. ☹️ Thankfully, I made that decision to bring them in! Glad y'all are good!! Like I said, it's good to hear some good news from fellow Floridians!
That is a great storm shelter!! Glad you are safe but sorry for the loss of the beautiful tree. If it has to come down, maybe you can make a special item from the wood, like a bench, etc.
Thankful that you guys were protected. As for your trees, we painted the inside, filled ours and sealed it and the tree lived no problem. You may want to try it.

How is it anchored to the ground? You should absolutely have 2-way radio gear / flashlights and lithium iron phosphate batteries dedicated to the radio.
@@TKCL Apparently, it’s well engineered and constructed! Great job keeping the family safe. Quick thought from a shelter I installed radio equipment in… Add inexpensive exterior mounted colored strobe light modules (approx $10-15@) that operate on 12vdc. They also provided an exterior rated fire horn devices. Add an internal “HUB-2 Station” (Amseco locking hold up station) OR a Fire Alarm Pull Station customized with different colors and lettering. The shelter had blue exterior strobe lights and a blue colored pull station inside. If the shelter inhabitants are in need of special assistance or cannot be located or has tipped over, etc… They can pull the station, activating the strobes and sounder outside. This can assist rescuers or ANYONE walking in the area. (Powered by separate 12v 7ah standby AGM battery mounted in an internal enclosure.
This is the first video I've watched by you guys. I'm so glad your both safe after the hurricane. When you showed the house and property the following day, it was like, "Hurricane? What hurricane"?!! I was so happy to see the chooks were all alive and well. And your storm shelter is AMAZING! I can't believe that it's just a (VERY STRONG) wooden structure, as it withstood those wind gusts so well! It's just a shame about the loss off your beautiful trees. You may be able to save the lone one in the paddock by filling the hole. Sending love from Australia. 😘💖🇭🇲
Sadly we've been hit so many times this year that there's not many limbs and trees left to blow around. What's left is very strong. We had more tree damage in the other storms.
Sad to see that oak got damaged, but looks like overall it's good news. Maybe you can put some kind of protective cover on the oak to keep it from filling up with water. Or paint some kind of sealant over the wound.
I want to say that I'm happy to see that there's some people there that know how to build things and manage themselves in a huricane. It's great actually. That being said, hopefully sealing the tree works out fine but, if that doesnt work out then it may just be a sign. It could just be saying that you're ready to move on to bigger things. honestly could be many things but seriously great considering for sure.
So glad to see that ya'll made it throught the storm safely. It is sad to see the mighty oak suffer the damage from the storm, but I agree at the end of the day it is just a tree. we just got a lot of tree debris and limbs down here in pasco county.

Wow!!! This is the first video I seen of someone riding that storm out and yet y’all didn’t even receive any structural damage. God was with you and gave you great ideas on your building. Great job!!! Glad you guys are safe.
Star link internet system can be a help but usually internet can be restored quickly
We got very lucky! Just to our south people lost everything on the coast.
Before you take the tree down if that's what you plan on doing, use spray foam in the cavity so it don't fill up with rain. Saw it done on another channel and it saved the tree. Just a thought
I bought sealer
Excellent video.. My state gets hit with quite a few tornadoes then we are now the new tornado alley.. In my state, there is a concrete company that makes underground sewage tanks.. They make a storm shelter that weighs one ton.. It is a small room with an Solid metal door.. Ventilation opening. I have it near my home so I can run power in it.. I have electrical backup for power source and can keep track of the storm as it crosses over.. I have spent many hour in that room riding out storm.. Videos, such as yours gives people a better perspective of what they can do to protect their families from such storms..
I have also thought about using septic tanks for shelters. Take care
So glad ya’ll are ok. Keeping you in my prayers. 🙏
Thanks so much
So glad for y’all that everything fared well. 👍
Man you done a awesome job preparing. I try to always do the same.
Thanks 👍
Great place you have, and I'm so glad your damage was minimal. Help your neighbors if needed. ❣️
Yes! Thank you! We've already been traveling and helping out. Our community is awesome.

Thankfully yall are safe.
My heart melt when you said that God is good, you are right young man, God is truly Good. God Bless you and your wife and dogs and your chickens 🙏 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amen
I am so happy that you both and animals are safe. You were in our prayers!!!! Prayers for all of Florida and all states affected. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️
Thank you so much!
Glad to see you all posting and that everything is generally ok. Sorry about the oak. You did a great job preparing for the hurricane. Everything is clearly well built and everything was secure. Great job.
We feel blessed
Oh My Days that sideways driving rain and wind was terrible, so thankful y'all are in as good a shape as you are! As many have mentioned, there's topical products to seal that oak up and it will be OK
I've already ordered some, hope it works.
Well done for all the prep work. The shelter even looks good.
Thanks 👍
Thankfully, I made that decision to bring them in!
Glad y'all are good!! Like I said, it's good to hear some good news from fellow Floridians!
Happy to hear yall fared as well as you could expect.
That is a great storm shelter!! Glad you are safe but sorry for the loss of the beautiful tree. If it has to come down, maybe you can make a special item from the wood, like a bench, etc.
Maybe so, hopefully it survives.
So glad you all are safe.
Thankful that you guys were protected. As for your trees, we painted the inside, filled ours and sealed it and the tree lived no problem. You may want to try it.
Thank goodness you are safe. Everyone needs a storm shelter!
You need a water gauge at your new property and of course a camera pointed at it. AKA a large ruler in the river with a camera pointed at it.
When we get internet down there I'll for sure do that.
@@TKCL consider a mesh network system like meshtastic. meshtastic doesn't specifically need the broader internet infrastructure to continue working. Also, if you set things up correctly, there are little to no recurring costs to running meshtastic (unlike internet).
We live over in the panhandle of FL. My thoughts and prayers have been with you all over the last few days. I am thrilled at what I see in your video. God bless!
Thank you so much! God bless
Glad you are so well prepared! Lots of planning for something like this. Thanks for the update 👍
There are sealers you can apply on that tree. Also, we have a tree that was damaged & a large hole by Katrina it's still standing. Did we seal it ? No, I want the tree gone, lol. God Bless y'all 🙏 🙏
Bless you both for getting through it OK. Don’t get too many things out - looks like another storm will be developing in the same area of the Caribbean as Helene did, and may also be headed more or less your way… Stay safe!
Yep, I'm already watching that one 😔
You Sir are blessed to have that beauty to ride out the storm next to you !!!
I'm glad y'all are okay. I will definitely find that storm shelter video! That eye shifting to the east saved our bacon as well
I added the Playlist to the end of this video.
@@TKCL I appreciate it. Our new place doesn't have a basement so I have been meaning to build a shelter
How can you possibly be so knowledgeable? Being older, my husband and I just pray, living in the Keys. I just feel inadequate. Bless you!
I just love to learn and try things. After 40 years of doing it, things catch on.
You are so blessed. Prayers were answered. Thank you for showing us this video so we could see for ourselves that you and Tiffany were safe (plus Bullet and Ruger).
Prayers were answered for y’all’s safety and minimized damage. We will continue praying for the local community and a rapid cleanup/return to normalcy. Thanks for taking us on the journey and it’s a good thing many of us like trail cleaning and firewood videos!
Thank you
Prayers for your safety 🙏
All is well, thank you.
Glad you guys are ok. When I saw that Helene was heading into your area was very concerned. Pray for the individuals that did not come through this so well. God bless you and your family.
Amen
Dont give up on the oak. There are fillers which you may be able to use and save it.
I bought some sealer
@cscott6629 I have insulating foam spray, think an arborist told me about it
You did a fantastic job of preparation!!
We've had a lot of practice over the years and learned from out mistakes.
How is it anchored to the ground?
You should absolutely have 2-way radio gear / flashlights and lithium iron phosphate batteries dedicated to the radio.
4ft earth augers and sits on a buried 8 inch slab.
@@TKCL Apparently, it’s well engineered and constructed!
Great job keeping the family safe.
Quick thought from a shelter I installed radio equipment in…
Add inexpensive exterior mounted colored strobe light modules (approx $10-15@) that operate on 12vdc.
They also provided an exterior rated fire horn devices.
Add an internal “HUB-2 Station” (Amseco locking hold up station) OR a Fire Alarm Pull Station customized with different colors and lettering. The shelter had blue exterior strobe lights and a blue colored pull station inside.
If the shelter inhabitants are in need of special assistance or cannot be located or has tipped over, etc…
They can pull the station, activating the strobes and sounder outside.
So glad y’all are okay. We had it horrible in Marion County
I also want to say that you did a wonderful job building your Storm shelter, I also admire how beautiful and green your Gras is. 🙏
Thank you
Sad to see that oak got damaged, but looks like overall it's good news. Maybe you can put some kind of protective cover on the oak to keep it from filling up with water. Or paint some kind of sealant over the wound.
I ordered sealant
I want to say that I'm happy to see that there's some people there that know how to build things and manage themselves in a huricane. It's great actually. That being said, hopefully sealing the tree works out fine but, if that doesnt work out then it may just be a sign. It could just be saying that you're
ready to move on to bigger things. honestly could be many things but seriously great considering for sure.
Thanks for watching
So glad to see that ya'll made it throught the storm safely. It is sad to see the mighty oak suffer the damage from the storm, but I agree at the end of the day it is just a tree. we just got a lot of tree debris and limbs down here in pasco county.
People can learn from what you did I think what you did was amazing unable to keep everything from blowing away you're awesome I see that you're above ground too you're not down you're up which I think will also help you I think a lot of people definitely need to take what you did and use it I'm glad that I'm glad that God brought you through but yeah we got another one coming so I hope you can fare well into that one or are the job get out
I appreciate that!
Listen friend, I live in Puerto🇵🇷Rico, I went through Hurricane Maria and many previous Hurricanes as well, my advice to you is to rebuild that shelter and make it out of blocks, cement and rods
both the walls and the ceiling too
Houses in Puerto Rico are built that way and also following the building code And I can assure you that your Shelter will withstand tornadoes, hurricanes and even earthquakes too. 👍
It is super dangerous for you to be inside that wooden box
here in Puerto🇵🇷Rico we saw horrible things during Hurricane María Incredible things, we saw a fence pipe impaled inside a palm a palm is a tree coconut fruits
and thank God the cement structures all remained standing
I love a guy who pre plan figures and executes a game plan .
From this video , i can conclude that your ideas and plans are spot on for beating mother nature .
We've been through enough storms in 40 years you learn from your mistakes.
Shelter is wonderful ❤
We feel blessed to have it
