Fury Movie Description:
In April 1945, the Allies are making their final push in the European theater. A battle-hardened Army sergeant named Don "Wardaddy" Collier (Brad Pitt), leading a Sherman tank and a five-man crew, undertakes a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Hopelessly outnumbered, outgunned and saddled with an inexperienced soldier (Logan Lerman) in their midst, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds as they move to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
Fury is a 2014 American war film written and directed by David Ayer, and starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs and Scott Eastwood. The film portrays U.S. tank crews fighting in Nazi Germany during the final weeks of the European theater of World War II. Ayer was influenced by the service of veterans in his family and by reading books, such as Belton Y. Cooper's Death Traps, about American armored units in World War II and the high casualty rates suffered by tank crews in Europe.
Production began in early September 2013, in Hertfordshire, England, followed by principal photography on September 30, 2013, in Oxfordshire. Filming continued for a month-and-a-half at different locations, which included the city of Oxford, and concluded on November 13. Fury was released on October 17, 2014, received positive reviews, and grossed $211 million worldwide.

Fun fact: there's a deleted scene in the movie that explains that brads character survived a nasty car crash that resulted in the death of the other driver, his brother and I think his girl. He explains that the judge gave him two options. Go to join the army to fight nazis or be in prison for life. Feeling guilty of the deaths he volunteered to fight hoping to die. That's why at the cross road scene Brad pits character was ready to make a last stand regardless.
And Wardaddys brother was named Norman as well
Great post. I saw that too. so that also explains why he couldnt leave the tank. His guilty wouldnt let him leave until he paid his price for the deaths. He had to win the war and stop more deaths.....
Thanks for sharing that man - I always thought it was kinda outta Brad’s character to make that decision, but the context TOTALLY explains it. Explains a lot, really. Gonna have to track that down now.
@@RustinChole no problem. Yeah they have several deleted scenes from the movie that explains more and shows more horrors of ww2. Example their was a Tank gunner that arrived at the military outpost and rather than going back in the tank he pulled a grenade and blew his own arm off out of fear of going back.
If I recall correctly they had 2 or 3 different backstories for Brad pit character so it's another reason they didn't dive too deep into his history
I can see why they cut it.
I remember watching this movie on deployment when it came out, no other movie we saw over there captured the true feeling of war like this movie. Especially living in a tank for a year in some change...."greatest job I ever had"

My grandpa's brother George R. Wilson died just a week before the end of WW2. He was the driver of an American M4 tank and the entire crew died. It happened at the intersection of Karl Heine Str. and Zschochersche Str. in Leipzig Germany, 18 April 1945, He belonged to Company C, 741st Tank Battalion.
He was burned alive in his tank. My Grandpa said when he read the death file on him, that he wished he never did, Because the only thing left of him was one foot in a boot on the drivers side of the tank, That is all that was able to be buried in his Mliltary grave in Europe.
Fun fact: for scenes where he featured injuries, Shia LaBeouf had actually gone and cut himself with a razor! If you look closely at pictures of him now you can still spot some of the scars.

He also didn't shower, or shave to give him more a of a scruffy look.

When the allies made it into Germany, Hitler ordered every able-bodied person to arms: anybody that refused, was executed.
It got much worse before it ended.
My mom was a little girl in Norway when the Germans marched in, the British bombed during the night, we bombed during the day, and she watched the allies liberate her country.
After the war, she immigrated here in the '50's.
Fun fact: The main cast was trained to operate the museum piece that was the M4A3 HVSS Sherman tank that played Fury. So, those outdoor scenes where Michael Pena was driving the tank? He was actually driving the thing.
It was an M4A2E8 "easy eight" but yeah, Pena did drive the beast
I don't think the officer at the end smirked at him, one interesting thing about that scene was that brad says early in the movie to shoot SS officers on sight as they are the worst. and the officer that sees him under the truck was an SS officer. the director of the movie summed this scene up after being asked about it because "a real SS officer wouldn't of let him go" and the reason he let him go was simply because they are the same person but in different situations, both young both don't want to be there and both want to go home.
Not to mention towards the end of the war literally EVERYONE was thrown into the front lines including children hence one of the scenes. So the SS boy seeing Norman hide under the tank and letting him go makes perfect sense.
I also hate how people truly believe no honorable things happened in times of war. Like nope...never take any prisoners nope just kill all enemies. It's silly.
This became one of my favorite war movies, even just movies overall, after the first time I saw it. Have watched it probably a dozen times since and it does not get old.

There is a war museum in Holland in a town called Overloon with great tank exibits..There is an exploded Sherman with the names of the men who died in it. You can walk around the battlefield forests outside and find tanks scattered around. Really hits home.
I think Pitt's character chose the suicide mission in order to protect the other troops who'd have to confront them. In that regard there's the same kind of scene in Saving Private Ryan. Where the captain chooses to assault on a pack of Germans and the medic dies.
The act within the town, with the women could stand alone on its own.
Extremely powerful, and gut wrenching.
The scene with Norman and Bernthal’s character, “that’s war, you feel it!?” just after the house is bombed is forever seared into my memory. But yeah, probably my favorite part of the film. The dynamic between the actors in that act is remarkable.

I just realized the symbolism at the end with the Sniper (at least I think that there was symbolism):
In the deleted scenes, Wardaddy explains how he got into the war through a vehicle accident he caused resulting in the deaths of his younger brother (ironically, named Norman) and his girlfriend. The judge essentially gave him a choice: Go die for your country, or go to prison for life

There's a deleted scene I wish they'd never took out , that explains why Brad Pitts back is all burnt up. It was a car wreck when he was driving drunk , with his little brother in the truck. The little brother's name was Norman too. Next time u watch the film check out Brad Pitt's reaction when Norman tells him his name. But that's why he's over seas. The Judge told him either u do time for manslaughter , or join the army and die for ur country
this movie is full of such powerful performances and the movie got overlooked and its such a shame, everyone gave 110%
This, Saving Private Ryan, and Hacksaw Ridge are my favorite World War 2 movies.

Also, the ending is rumored to be based off of Audie Murphy. If you're not familiar with who that is, one of his most courageous acts was when he mounted the .50 cal of a tank destroyer (same MG that Wardaddy was on at the end) and held off an equal force of Germans on his own, against German tanks as well, while the tank destroyer he was on was on fire. He sustained light burns and a couple bullets wounds.
The ending last stand isn't that far fetched if you know history

That old meme of 'five dollars and a candy bar' probably came from post-war Germany. The German people were so deprived by the end of the war that during the early part of the occupation, when food and other supplies were still scarce, you literally could have a woman for a couple of Hershey bars, a pack of cigarettes, or a bottle of shampoo.

The Chieftain, aka Nicolas Moran, is a Military Historian, a US Army National Guard Armor Officer and one of the creators behind the online MPORG "World of Tanks", and he has a few things to say about the accuracy of the film's introduction in regards to the M-4 Sherman Medium Tank.

a fact you should know, the us also had kids in their ranks, from 16 to 18, there were even cases of kids as old as 12 and 11 in the first war, even know we deploy people who just turn 18 in our ranks, it amazes me how that your able to fight for the us at 18 but you can't get a beer at the same time
I liked the accuracy of the fear for those two scenes, if people don't know the level the Tiger tank was at then it might go over their heads in this (and it's the only functional one left, rented from Britain), also the change in attitude, "they just want to surrender" - "it's an SS battalion (no intention of surrender and the best they have to offer)" - "let's go".

Shia LaBeuf, much like Leonardo DiCaprio started out as a classical pretty boy but ended up a real powerhouse actor!
it is one of the best war movies up there with Saving Private Ryan etc.
I know it’s easy to see a tank as just a vehicle or piece of machinery. But for a tanker when deployed and even when training, the tank is home. You live on it. Sleep on it. The engine keeps you warm at night and even heats up water for a warm bird bath. It protects you, and you have to care for it. This movie portrays what it takes to be an effective tank crew. Being an Army Tanker (19kilo) was literally the best job I ever had.

This movie shows the reality of war... though I don't feel war will ever go away, it shows the brutality beyond the physical aspect... the mental aspect can mess with the purest heart and turn them into someone you don't recognize... seeing your brothers die just changes a person... and hatred builds until they just don't care what is right or wrong anymore... the brain has to find a way to keep living and usually hatred is chosen as it is the best method to get through life or death situations...

What most dont get. "Red" died from spalling.
No penetration of the tanks armor.
Just sheer force impacting the tank caused the inner layer of metal to sheer off and become lethal projectiles.
Thats enough to maim a man. Let alone kill.

25:18 That German soldier was probably a rookie too. He was thrown into the war same way Norman was; he didn't want to be a part of it, but he didn't have much of a choice. You could tell he saw that in Norman's eyes too. That's why he let him go.
The sense of dread this entire movie just hurts
By this time of the war, in 1945, the Wermacht was but a shell of itself. Anyone who could walk and carry a weapon, regardless of age, was expected to do so. That's why you saw children in the ambush, and also in the town. Urban warfare is probably the most difficult type of combat, because the defenders know the ground they're on, and can exploit all sorts of fighting positions, such was where that Mg-42 was placed in the basement, with a clear field of fire down that street.

Never have I walked out of a theater more depressed than after this movie. It's an incredible film, but jesus it is not a fun one.

For another WWII movie, or movies, I recommend Flags of our Fathers, and it's companion piece, Letters From Iwo Jima. Both directed by Clint Eastwood, and absolutely fabulous movies.

Surprising an ironic! Twenty three minutes in the action movie. The us army soldiers meets the tank commander officer. Is actually Clint Eastwood only son Tom Eastwood he tells the man actor soldier to talk to the top captain in the building. To give him new military planned orders! Tom Eastwood character dies later of the fierce fighting battle over taken of the German small town. My historical information for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.

DAMMM GOOD movie!!! Definitely one one of my favorites.
There’s Historian named mark Felton has a UA-cam channel called, well(mark Felton) has many videos on unique ww2 stories and events, has many books name of then about when American and German soldiers helped save a group of horses from the soviets.
The movie had its flaws, such as the crew trying to fix the broken bogie and track. Five men with hand tools could not do that job, even if they had a spare bogie wheel and track plates (which they didn't;the track plates on Fury's hull were for a Sherman with different running gear, and were welded in place, at any rate). Sometimes it's hard for a WWII history buff to overlook things like that, but the characters in the movie were well-realized, and there were many powerful scenes.
It's the same with Saving Private Ryan. The whole plot is absolutely ridiculous. Sending rangers to find a specific paratrooper in Normandy is absolutely unrealistic, Operation Overlord was pure chaos in the very first days. Nobody would have wasted resources to find a single guy. Im not even talking about all the other errors the movie has, like paratroopers meeting a Tiger in Normandy, firing a tompson through the viewing slit of a tiger, obstacles placed the wrong way around on Omaha beach, non-existing bunkers on Omaha Beach, walking a meadow behind enemy lines in broad daylight ...
It's called a movie.... Just suspend belief for 2 hours of your life and you will find things more enjoyable

@@Abbath77 I'm fairly certain that when they encounter the tiger it is like days worth of walking later. Not to mention that hello Hitler countered d day with armor at some point. So coming across a tiger doesn't seem like a stretch.

6:03 That's the gritty reality of war. Even nowadays, enemy countries like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc. they apply that strategy of using kids in warfare because they assume our soldiers have the mentality of not harming innocent kids in a combat situation. We learned that the hard way in Vietnam.

Hi mell, there were in fact many atrocities committed by allied troops in world war 2. It’s only now really that there are books and other forms of media that are not “doctored” in some way. Many leaders after the war used every effort to cover up our own war crimes while simultaneously executing Nazi war criminals. It’s never been hushed up but it’s the “forgotten” bit of history that citizens of victorious nations would prefer to ignore I suppose, and have done until recently.
I feel ya... Go right back to the garden of eden and punch that lying serpent in its face and smack that fruit out it’s hand.

The German soldier Norman was forced to execute was executed because he was wearing part of an American uniform which was against the Geneva Convention.
War is hell.
I both hate and love this movie. Hate for its historical inaccuracy and subscribing the popular myths. Love for how dark and dirty it is- vibes that film gives you, makes you feel that you are really there and dont want to be, because war is hell.
Great movie my only criticism of the ending was why the Germans kept attacking the tank. They knew the tank was disabled they could've just bypassed it. They were foot soldiers they had no armor or vehicles which negates the need to secure the road leading to where they were going. If they had tanks or vehicles they would've needed to secure a road but just a soldier attack. Could've just gone around.
If you like this kinda thing, Band of Brothers, The Pacific and The Hurt Locker are pretty good ones.

The German found in an American overcoat would be considered a spy and lawfully shot in the field. Justified. In "Saving Private Ryan", as a commenter below brings up as "incorrect" somehow, I know that the two men killed surrendering were speaking Czechoslovakian, and saying "we never even fired" were German conscript's. Although Spielberg did not want that known in any sub-titles. I like History too. When I served from 1977 to 1981 I wasn't a Tanker. My job was in the Field Artillery. Our big gun was self-propelled, but I was on a towed Howitzer.
Platoon is an Oscar winning war movie and is my personal favourite.

Like to think that SS battalion got hit by fighter aircraft (p47 or hawker typhoon)or got caught in a fight with Americans and lost
So something not often mentioned is that tiger tanks were not as scary as this movie makes it seem. At close range most tanks could punch through it's front armor. And quite frankly in the ambush scene the tiger should have been killed much sooner than it was.
