    The top and bottom parts are magnesium alloy. They feel light and plasticky, but it does get cool to the touch like other metals. I do wish they went with something a little heftier. I also got a BW UV brass filter for it, mostly to protect the lens since it's kind of exposed in a weird way. The filter also adds 1 more random texture on the whole camera lol,

    The filter size 40.5mm was used on the lenses for the Pentax Q digital cameras, probably why they went for that size with the compact 17. Glad to hear the images were enough to change your mind :)

    I am still baffled by how clean these images look even as half frame. It has to be just the difference in modern lens coatings/technology because to me it looks pretty damn close to your full frame especially in terms of the grain on the images. The detail I'm sure is better on parts of the frame in the distance on the full frame but still.

    So what is digital lacking that makes every reviewer thrilled about seeing 1/2 frame 35mm film images? There is obviously some primal desire that digital doesn't satisfy. I don't know specifically what it is, but I know it's why I still shoot and develop film myself. I shoot digital, but every now and then I need to reset and reboot and shoot film, remember what it's all about as it were.

    • @animegeek6118
      @animegeek6118 5 днів тому +1

      Nothing. It boils down to nostalgia and the love of film photography. Simple as that.

    • @bernardwelsh1877
      @bernardwelsh1877 5 днів тому +1

      I think it's the difference in shooting process? You kind of need to slow down and think a little more about what you're shooting with film, the instant feedback and massive storage with digital means you can just brute force and keep blasting photos? And then the mystery and anticipation with getting it developed and waiting on seeing what you got. But yeah, the half frame size is about the same as apsc. You could get a canon crop body, and put the 24mm efs pancake on it to get something similar.

    • @nickguzman1734
      @nickguzman1734 5 днів тому +2

      I think people are surprised how much modern coatings help improve the sharpness of the half frame photos.

    • @JayCatterson
      @JayCatterson 4 дні тому +1

      @@EdwardMartinsPhotography the slower process, the thought you have to put in before you take each shot, the not knowing how your photos turned out until you process them… then the actual processing of the photos… and then seeing and holding those prints in your hands afterwards… the look of analog photos is something that digital cannot fully replicate. And yes, the nostalgia. There’s really nothing else like analog photography. And I’m glad it’s thriving again!

    I mean you still did troll it. The whole film rewind thing looks like it’s the Kodak Ultra Max not the Pentax and you spent a lot of the video on that. If you had opened the back in daylight after rewinding you would have seen the film leader was free and it was the film canister that was bound up.

      I don't get this hate over a new film 📸 by many elitists and at the same time comparing it to another film 📸 which is about to be launched soon.
      I think analogue enthusiasts should be happy that a new film 📸 has been released by a major manufacturer & that another one will be released soon by smaller manufacturer which has so far produced instant film 📸.
      Let's appreciate both models. We are lucky to get 2 new analogue 📸 in 2024. I don't think other manufacturers will think to make even now.
      Some people like half frame for what it offers, some like full frame.
      Some like autofocus, some don't like it's complexities & want a zone focus (especially for street photography).
      Some will like the classic rollei look, some will prefer a more ergonomic design (Pentax).
      Don't be a hater. Otherwise the analog 📸 from the good old days are dying. Let's appreciate the new ones coming out.

    • @H4WKB13
      @H4WKB13 5 днів тому +9

      Rollei has nothing to do with the new AF35 except for licensing out their brand name. The camera is entirely made by Mint.

      Why not try it out before hating on it? I bought it, and it’s actually very fun to use, and the pictures are bang on. Also, can we just appreciate that we actually have a camera company that’s producing a NEW film camera in 2024?! That in itself is a win for analog photography. (Also, you know Pentax will release a full frame camera soon after this one… in Japan, they’re sold out of the Pentax 17, and are anticipating shortages, so the appetite for film cameras is definitely there. This is just the start.)
