- This episode is a plant tour focusing on the rarest aroids shown at the LANNA international exotic plants show in Chiangmai. A lot of interesting mutations and variations have been discovered in tissue culture and selective breeding/hybridizing program... here are tons of philodendrons, monstera, anthuriums, and more aroids and I bet you have not seen some of these before. We also see many rare plants in its large and mature form! And… we will witness at least 10 different forms/mutation of the Philodendron gloroisum, and some anthurium mint! There’s also lot of tissue culture aroids on sale, find out how much they are sold for!

I can't believe how affordable some of those plants are!!! I need to move to SE Asia so I can live with all of these plants! Yellow variegation is not my favorite and I am on the hunt for a pink birkin but when you showed that philodendron birkin with the yellow variegation my mouth dropped and I replayed it three times. I really want that plant it's gorgeous. I'm really excited to see what the birkin brings in the next few years that was such an unstable plant we're going to have a lot of amazing mutations. Then you kept showing burkins and I just want to go to Thailand with my import permit and bring them all back with me.

Every plant is a wonder, but if I would live with only variegated specimen, I d go nuts..
I m glad my dark green companions give me calmness, where else some variegated are too much turmoil to me 🤷🏻♀️

Ive started to see some variegated calatheas, its rare though. In this weeks upcoming episode we do see a variegated kaemperia, a distant relative of the calathea
Yes indeed Sean, in video part 1 you showed us a kaempferia. I looked back a bit, did'nt know that it was also a calathea.

The people buying are mostly sellers too. They will break a profit from buying these. Also some millionaires buy them too 😀 we shouldnt be worried about trying to buy them at this price

I guess tissue culture is the only way some can afford a part of that exotic world...some might want to watch their babies grow overtime, while others prefer already mature plants with no patience and they can surely afford the steep prices.

Haha yes I feel you! I have moved on to other projects unfortunately so I wont be looking back. But there will be more events coming up so be on the look out. I guess I really have to leave this expensive mic home (intereference at events tend to cause these flare ups) and go back to my basic mic.

I’m a plant lover but the more I get into the rabbit hole I’ve realised the amount of resources it takes to take care of them so u can appreciate what it took for this growers to get their product to that standard and than on top of that all been at the same place for people like us who love them and encourage this behaviour because we r the consumer and realised the crazy money that is involved whilst our real plants and trees from around the world are disappearing at a alarming rate perhaps if we show the same appreciation to our environment as we do here and image the money been exchange what could b achieved

Where do you draw the line between plant hybridization and business ethics?
I see no correlation between hybridization and business ethics… perhaps maybe more so with environmental ethics. Hybrids are an excellent idea to explore new ideas, express creativity, and in the case of food produce - to create stronger, more beneficial food source for generations to come. I dont know if I answered your question though 😅
