When I was 15 years old I wanted to marry him. He always made me laugh and left me with a smile on my face. What a treat to be hearing him still singing when the Sun goes down at the end of a long day.
This is one of my favourite Monkees songs. A little harder edge than most of them. Fine political satire from King/Goffin. And now Micky is the last man standing :(
The "rock" of The Monkees. No matter who came and went, quit or came back, Micky was always there for every iteration of the group, keeping it alive and going since 1966. His is one of the most underrated lead vocal voices of the rock and roll era. Had he sung with any other band, he would be much more highly regarded today. The Monkees got a bad rap for being a manufactured band (dubbed the "Pre-Fab Four") and it was partly true because they were formed originally not as a real band but as musician/actors PLAYING a struggling band on a TV show. It was only once the show was a hit and young fans took the lyric lines in the theme song seriously ("...So you better get ready, we'll maybe come to your town!") that the demand was there to see The Monkees live in concert. From that, a real band was born and a real band they became...playing their own instruments on record and in-concert, composing some of their own songs, and lending more than just their voices as they had mostly done on their first two albums (although Mike Nesmith did a little more with the contribution of some of his own songs and producing them in the studio). The musical legacy of The Monkees is legitimate and they have influenced generations of musicians.
I was a little girl amd lived to watch the show. My mother worried because I didn’t really crush on Davy, it was always Micky. I think it was his humor. They were all so fine, but Micky had my little heart.❤ 😂
@MickyDolenz-h1v What a thrill! You actually responded! The only other performer who ever responded was Alan Osmond! Thank you so much for the great music and happiness you have given us. You're the best!
I miss seeing all the boys together. This brought a tear to my eyes
This is not an easy song to sing, and for him to deliver this, all these years later? WOW! Respect, sir...
A gentle, yet scathing musical critique of American society in the mid 1960's...

This man probably misses the other Monkees doing back up vocals.. it’s sad they are not here anymore.
They are still there- in his heart!
Keep on rocking Micky! Stay strong! 10 more years at least!
Mickey is my favorite of the Monkees.

The last Monkees !! 😔
Yup, it's sad that he's the only Monkee left. 🤷
Still a good performance 👍, even though he seemed to struggle in remembering parts of the song. 😲
Circus Boy
What happened to the backing singers - couldn't hear them at all. The same thing goes for the guitarist. Good thing Micky knew what he was doing.
It's hard to believe that Micky is the last of the monkees still alive. It's kinda of like when Betty White was the last golden girl to die.
Time to stop Mickey. It was fun, and a great ride, but its over.
These back up singers are HORRIBLE. So many harmonies lost in this performance.
