Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we dig up our crumbling chateau cobblestone to repair problematic tree growth! Benoit joins us to help finish a few projects and Ian's brother, Nick, visits us from California and we take him to see the magical Royaumont Abbey!
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!

how funny, I have lived 5 minutes away from Royaumont Abbey since I was born, I also worked as a waitress a few times for marriages and ceremonies. I recognized the location right away, it really is a beaufitul place.

Hey!! Every time I see your home I just fall in love with it again. It’s perfect from every angle. Especially from above when the builders and architects could have never seen the chateau from above. Only in their imagination😊
So good to see Benoit! Nice that your brother could see some of France’s beautiful architecture, but bonding over chores is always a good experience.
Did you know that cobbles, or cobblestones, change after the 17th century? The become rectangular then, so it makes it easier to date them. Looks like yours are from then. I only learned this after unearthing my own, and being a curious soul discovered the different ages of cobblestones. Who knew? 🙂

Just make sure you do not do long periods with the Jack hammer as you can develop what we call white finger, blood supply to fingers interrupted, just that you know😊

Thank you for sharing another great video niceties see two bothers working together we are members of a local yatch club which my twin sister and I do some work to help annual cleaning maintenance and we the Christmas decorating and put up tree lot of ladder climbing but have been working together since kids we had a family restaurant started working together there then at an office we both worked at just have to work separately as siblings do have disagreements!
Even today at 69 ! The best thing about working at the yatch club is the beautiful view of Lake Huron we are at the mouth of this beautiful great lake in southern ontario canada and we say best view on the great Lakes here In Sarnia ontario canada ! Love your videos

Daphne you might remember my email with some ideas for the garden.. you liked the espaliered appletree in the abbeygarden.. that is, ho I would do the driveway to the castle. dig a long trench, put in fenceposts with wire, the trees and lots of springbulbs and seeds for summerflowers
Love how Benoit shows them how to do some of the work (eg. sanding) and lets them work with him. His talent is amazing! And his humor is contagious 😊😊

Training your fruit trees/ and tree like that is called espalier (which I'm pretty sure is French)
Easy to pick the fruit and putting it against a wall will give the tree heat, better to grow/ fruit etc.

Growing the fruit trees like that is great for walled gardens or to build a living wall/fence. Espalier is the term for it.
It’s also great for productivity- apples and many other tree fruits are most fruitful on the horizontal branches!

Lovely video as usual! I had a giggle about the baguette magique and hibby joked they need to do a parody with baguettes in Harry Potter now. Baguettes are kinda magical.....yummy and can be used for so many things. The door was quite the project and looks great now!
