He was later implied to be planning on killing people just for being lazy and he admitted than a big motivator for him becoming Kira was boredom. Yes, he does do a lot of really bad things for his own purpose.

I think that Kira was a split personality of Light Yagami not his true personality, which came into existence when he killed Lind L. Tailor or say, might be when Light found the Death Note. Death Note corrupted him then Kira came in power and Light Yagami was suppressed. LIGHT YAGAMI was just like L (even more pure than L). That's why 1-2 characters (like Naomi) said to Light that he reminds them of L.
Btw, this is the perfect character analysis of both, Light Yagami and Kira.

_My Character Analysis of Light Yagami, Kira and L_
*Light Yagami (not Kira) is purer than L.*
As everyone has equally black and white, but the people whose black side is more active and it become their personality are considered 'evil', and the people whose white side is more active and it become their personality are considered 'good'.
*Power corrupts people* and imo that means it starts activating black side of a person.
This same thing happened with LIGHT YAGAMI.
Light Yagami, a very good and pure person and a person with such strong sense of justice when came in possession of an immense power (a power to kill), he slowly started getting corrupt and then a new different and personality 'Kira' started getting born in him. Light Yagami's black side increasingly kept on activating more and more throughout the show that means Kira was becoming more powerful in that body, in that brain with time.
When Kira relinquished the ownership of Death Note, Light Yagami came back and then we saw again that how good and pure that person is.
Some thoughts on L:
L had his white side more active than his black one, but *LIGHT YAGAMI had much & much more (when compared to L) active white side than his active black side* . The active black side in L was less than the active black side in KIRA.
L might do ANYTHING (except murder, any action which will threaten someone else's life, and other worst crimes) to successfully solve his cases. Even L himself said that he doesn't have that strong sense of Justice, he solves cases just for fun, it's his hobby.

I agree with Kira Ideology, he is better than the Judiciary. He don't discriminate in Gender, Age, etc. He knows that small crimes can be tolerated but crimes like Rapes & Murders can't be. My question is why a female criminal get 35% reservation? Why they are not allowed to arrest after sunset?
