I would venture to guess that what Balanchine was attempting to ....express, or intimate...about what it means to be a woman, was most existentially wrought in 'Emeralds." What a rock come gem from centuries of oppression ,or pressure, would have anything to do with the journey of women and their bodies and that relation with dance.....well, I have no idea.....what he might have been trying to express....with women's bodies. What could it be?

there's a beautifully intoxicated/intoxicating quality to her bourrees faster and faster and then an ultra-speedy pirouette at the very end.
She is just divine, spontaneous, yet always making everything look effortless.
