Vishneva is perfection! She brings the playfulness to the extremity of body this role requires. Too many dancers focus on trying to hit the exaggerated poses without understanding the nuance of the movement.
wow, i know Vishneva is Vaganova through and through- but she is still somehow absolutely PERFECT for this role. i feel like all her character training comes through, with the sharp passé legs and expressive back and port de bras. everything is so complete with her.

So funny, all the commenting that this isn‘t Diana Vishneva 🤣 These people obviously don‘t know the ballet 🩰, that’s no problem. But worse, they only watch the first minute, so they don‘t realize that the tall girl in the first scene isn‘t the female lead. People, the female lead, which IS Diana Vishneva, has her entrance a few minutes later!! 🤦🏻♀️ Edit: most of these comments have been deleted
the long tall girl at the beginning is Marie Agnès Gillot, she was (she is retired now) a French Etoile from Opéra de Paris. I think this is a collaboration between Marinsky and Opéra de Paris (costumes from Christian Lacroix = most certainly a French production) ???? but I am not sure
Vishneva is clearly the only one who knows how to dance Balanchine. The others lack something. They may be technically skilled but the artistic nuanced movements are missing. Especially the other female lead. She is so stiff and off. Vishneva is my absolute favorite because she’s a true artist and dancer, not just a ballerina. There is only one other ballerina that reminds me of her, the very young Maria Koshkaryova.
Stylistically (beyond technique) this is VERY different than the recently published Royal Ballet presentation. I found this one darker, with more hard edges and less playfulness-- more of a sense of danger in the play here. Interesting to compare, and to notice that after watching this I feel less pleasure and more rousing grit, like breaking a sweat while already covered in dust from a construction site in New York City.
I knew Emmanuel had danced this role on several occasions, including in Madrid once, but I had never seen any video of it. Thanks for sharing, iskander!
I usually am disappointed with Europeans trying to do Balanchine (almost always too slow, too cautious and off the music), but whoever performed the PDD (Vishneva? + ?) nailed it. It was a delight.
The only ballet I’d be good at, at least 4 people holding my ankles arms and legs. Then pliés and arabesques. The rest is iffy though. I wouldn’t make it to the pas de deux. Lmao
Искусство для искусства, как говаривали в недалеком прошлом умудренные глупостью головы, требуя все свести к балету "Щелкунчик". Но мне понравилось, хотя бы потому, что сам бы я так не смог.
It's interesting to watch extremely well trained ballet dancers who are so proficient yet seem to struggle with Balanchine. His mastery is in the details. These are very strong dancers, but they are lacking the Balanchine nuances and style. It's very specific and has to be studied. This is a no for me. No matter how good they are as technicians, they lack the Balanchine movement style.

The music is too slow, I’m not sure if it’s the Russian dancers that can’t handle the actual tempo or the steps. I’d like to see them try it at the correct tempo. And correct steps.
I'm just gonna say it. Russians are better ballet dancers than Americans. Even the neoclassical Ballanchine style, which the most prestigious U.S. schools all train their young dancers in, Russians just do better. And the classics? No competition. Russians dance, Americans strike poses in time to music. If ABT wanted to compete on the world stage, they'd fire all their principal dancers and replace them with any Vaganova grad.

Guillot is tall with big feet and broad shoulders yet dances with more refinement and feminine charm than sinewy gymnast-like Vishneva. Osipova is even worse.
I concur , she has panache in spades . Guillot is cool and seductive , similar to Guillem and Marie Claude Pietragalla . It must be the French training .
