I used to work on all my BMX bikes when I was a kid. Strip them down repaint them, put em back together. But now that I'm older. I take mine to a shop because I work full time and only have so much time off from work. So I can support a local business and have my bike done by the time I'm off from work. It's a win win for me. We need to support our local businesses!
1975 painted my huffy fire engine red. First time i bought spray paint. Took black electrical tape to my white t shirt Wrote SMITH. 12. Man that was so cool
Always enjoy your videos! My father raced ten speeds in the 70s and 80s when I was a kid and he bought me a dope 1980 Lotus Legend road bike, I secretly wanted a BMX bike. I never told him and always would watch the guys building BMX bikes in the pro shop. Watching you build a bike brings back great memories! 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Phu I think you are awesome. I build bikes all the time, I have for my whole life out of scraps. Please keep the videos coming. There is a long wire brush attachment that can be found in hardware stores or on the internet that makes cleaning out the frame where the seat post goes a breeze. It will not remove metal and thats where the tool you have will be needed. Mine came with a loop at the end that I cut off so it could be pot into a drill. While using the wire wheel attachment I like to use oil. It lubricate the rusty metal and protect it from further rusting. I hope it helps and I hope you have a great day. I just looked it up it is called (Schaefer Brush 14654 1inch brass tube brush 27inches in length).
Looks good either way IMO. I like functionality more than visual. After all bikes are to ride, appreciate it, and enjoy life. We have limited time on earth so ride it!!! Bike is clean!!! I had a late 70’s mongoose similar that was chrome and blue colorway also when I was a kid.
I ride fixed track bikes so religiously the chainring is on the outside flush with the spider. Though, It depends on the build imo. The chainring being on the inside on that bike seems period correct
Ive got a 1980 long pro with 1st gen bullseye hubs,7x araya rims and tuf neck stem,Suntour Vk cranks, mks pedals.Mine has double dropout forks .I bought mine from og owner for $25 ten years ago.Mines needs a acid bath or to be rechromed
Hi there guys , from what I’ve seen from being re chrome plating to spray some a cleaner in the frame tubes as the acid’s can eat away inside the tubes , heard from someone who had some rim plated and they crumbled away
Flex hone is what you want for the seat tube cleaning. It needs to be slightly bigger than the hole. The brand name ones are pricey, cheap ones can be gotten from over seas.
I think bad chain alignment and off centered cranks is a terrible aesthetic. That would drive me crazy. Almost all square taper cranks have the chainring mounted on the inside for proper alignment on a Bmx bike
Ewe… Back in the early to mid 80's NO ONE wanted to ride a crappy Diamondback!!! LOL Looking back though, they weren't bad at all. Just a mainstream corporate brand that was a far cry from the family industry brands that formed the industry that was to become BMX! To remove that rust from inside the tubing that frame should have been completely stripped and then soaking in a bath of IRON OUT with CLR!!! It would have removed at least 80% of that internal rust, and then it should have been sprayed with Rustoleum Rust Reformer which turns any remaining rust residue flat black! As for the Crank Axle, place Aluminum spacers between the Sprocket and the base to push the sprocket further in while leaving the pedals squared up evenly! That seat post and seat are HORRENDOUS!!! He should have gotten the S-Laidback Seat post and shorten it!
Phu promised more videos and so far, he’s been delivering!
So Glad your back In cali wit team Phu OG BMX Legendz
we need riding videos with the boys begin, tyra ... like back in the days :(
I'm looking for a late 90s early 2000s Chrome 20" Gary Fisher Mr Skinner Fat Frame Dirt bmx or the identical Chrome Fat Frame Gary Fisher Moto Cleo.

Phu is back! Lets gooo
🙌🏻
I'd put the chainring on the back of the spider, if it were on the front it won't have those little ridges the chainring bolts fit into.
That bike is beautiful. I’ll be sure to have my Maxy Cross cranks restored by them. Top notch quality.

Nice build! But pls, next time first clean seat post and then install BB. Cose all rust just drop down in to the bearings.

Sweet build! I think the neck would look better with a mix of chrome and blue like the cranks and maybe chrome bars . Awesome diamondback !

Yes!
Looks great!
Got 87 Free agent limo extended bmx sold as a frame fork handlebars an seat post you put on part you wonted i keep in mint condition
Phu look into bore brush for drills it will be so much easier for you and better finish!
Behind the spider
Very informative video
💯

Get a cheap brass bore brush for a 12ga shotgun and chuck it up in the drill that works fast on the hole for the seat post 👍
beautiful bike
Where do your customers get chroming done ?
The guy can’t build his own bike, the jokes over
I would’ve sanded the tube for the seat post before fitting the crank.
Use a hone bit for the seat tube.
💯
Phuuuuu
What company does the replating
perfect chainline
Sick bike FOO
Phu rockin the Bon Jovi jeans lol
Phu Jovi?
6:36 get an automotive brake cylinder hone, al. it will clean it like new.
Very nice 👍
I use hollow tech instead of square tapered to save weight
Chainring on the back side is better looking imo. Function over form man!!
Get a flex hone.. for the seat tube. Just don't go hog ass wild with it and bore it out haha. They work wonders.
I ride single speed just for chainline waxed chain
I'd go for square over the looks of the sprocket.
I want that bike badly
Not a fan of the bars and that long ass seatpost lol but beautiful if they were a lay back and straighter bars done the same way
Ya boiiiii
What bike shop is this?
Epic BMX in Westminster, CA
Chainline for me smooth pedal
Hopefully that rust doesn’t go in the bottom bracket!
How do you know what that looks like?😉
HELP! I lost the front pegs for my 1985 Haro Master. Somebody sell me a pair at a reasonable price.
I got mine on BMX museum.
Throw down lol
BAD A$$$$$$$ !!!
