If you know what the problem is why would you not find a fix for it so it wouldn’t happen again. He knows it was an issue with that kind a starter set up. Why wouldn’t you address the problem.
Stacy Beach Yep, there's no excuse for this happening. Someone's getting complacent. Hope he get the message. If you don't fix the easy stuff, what else isn't getting done.

They shook it up,and they shook it side to side. But they never tried to simply tilt the bike to the right a bit to try and tilt the starter down to see if it would uncouple. They had to do some internal damage treating that bike the way they were. So the answer is 12. It takes 12 people to start a nitro Harley.

Lucky it was a qualifying pass. If it were a race the Bull Dog would be barking his head off!! It seems to me that everything involved would have to be in near perfect alignment to work properly, the bike on the stand not pitched side to side, the starter cart squarely aligned with the engine horizontally and vertically. Haven’t seen one yet with a swivel end socket. A lot to get perfect. Then along comes the crew to start the bike and shoves the 100+ lb. cart to the square drive and pushes too hard and it’s stuck. I would go back to a hand held starter braced on the engine and or the ground. It can be placed on the square drive aligned by hand and then engaged to start the engine. Train the crew member to hold it so it’s not going to flop around when engaged. And they can feel that the starter will come off when they want it to. Just a thought from a sportsman Suzuki racer. Any one check the tire pressure on the starter cart? We believe we had a crankshaft break because the starter was allowed to flop around when engaged on a GS.
For sure. This would have been a horrible way to lose. Thanks so much for the feedback. Please introduce this channel to some of your friends who appreciate fast motorcycles and I'll keep the content coming! All motorcycle fans are welcome here. Thanks for subscribing.
Now that is very bizarre. In all of my years on the track I have never had that happen nor have I ever seen that happen. Just when you think you've seen everything.
Seen similar in Australia. That particular problem was a dry socket that had galled up. No grease being used. Even a little bearing grease helps. Regularly overlooked maintenance item.
This happens in all kinds of racing that uses hand held starters. The weak link is the drive. You are held to a maximum size of drive by the size of engine. In better terms “shit happens “.
I know it's racing but that is just BS! LOL I would have went to work on that starter cart with a BFH! Beautiful motorcycle BTW. The rider worked right through never even took off that hot leather jacket. I'm guessing that's why they call him bulldog.
There was not much Jay could do unfortunately. He would have been very upset if this was an elimination run. Thanks a lot for the comment. Please check out and share my other recent videos from Bristol, Tenn and Australia.
@@cycledrag i really like that you read the comments and reply good shit dude you shure they don't have a kick start on that old iron head? lmao!! bet that dude was frustrated yeah?
Since you were at the track I got a question. Harry Hruska went 265 in one the qualifying session in pro mod. I’m sure NHRA was all over that car after posting that MPH. Did it break the speed record or did NHRA dnq’d the run?

Exactly what I was thinking...many times the Angel of the Lord actively hinders us from -not only harming ourselves but also from causing harm to other certain individuals. So I've learned too that a simple "stuck in the traffic" jam could be delaying one from an otherwise calamity; therefore man ought to always pray and not to faint.
oh for shits sake, yea someone is watching over a motorcycle drag race while Ebola and a new strain of aids ravages the Sudan. It was age and a lack of Maint that caused the drive to go too far. The little teflon spacer gets compressed over time and then they blip the starter when it's crooked and the nut jams itself right under the stop.
Man the last thing I'd be doing is using Brute Force to take that thing off that hundred-thousand-dollar bike. Looks like you could turn a $5 problem into a $25,000 problem real quick. I'm sure those guys know what the hell they're doing though.

I would think a bottle jack would be the solution but based on what the crew member said it looks like taking the plate off was the right way to go. I would be doing some creative engineering to make sure that was a one time problem.

@That Baby Shark GTO yeahh ahh no they make bottle jacks that work sideways they are used for setting up mobile homes just saying as i used to set em up myself
@That Baby Shark GTO wrong type of bottle jack they make them for setting up mobile homes you have to have them to move second half of double wide into position on bottom rollers unless you are fortunate enough to own top rollers the correct jacks cost about 350 for a 20 ton trust me they exist porta power good idea suppose you had to pump that thing for ever seeing as how they only move 1/16th of an inch per pump?

My 2 dogs got knotted up like that once … maybe they should of just sprayed the bike and cart with a garden hose ?
Starter cart says to drag bike: "Take me with you!"
Yep, says I wanna go fast too!!!!
Lovely bike. As the crew member said its the square drive that goes through to far and knocks out the spacing sticking itself.
