  • Road Trip #520 - Louisiana Highway 18 West - Westwego/Bridge City
Part 2 of our LA-18 series, we enter the city of Westwego, where LA-18 follows 4th Street through town. Then we head back north to the River Road, where LA-18 runs concurrent with LA-541 and the Great River Road for a short stretch. We enter Bridge City and make a beeline for the Huey P. Long Bridge and US Highway 90. After a short concurrency with US-90, LA-18 turns right and heads for Avondale. The video ends at the western terminus of LA-541, where the Great River Road returns to LA-18, as it will remain through the end of the highway.

I was born in Bridge City and went to school in Westwego. I moved away 32 years ago when I was 13. I've only been able to go back twice since I moved away. I've had so many dreams about being on this road. Thank you so much for this video. 💗

River Road brings so many memories, I actually used it yesterday to get to Audubon. Cool drive!

Extraordinary! The main route west of the Mississippi (especially until the West Bank Expressway), tons of commercial and industrial development, and still only 2 lanes and a max of 35 mph! And not much local government, it seems, with all these unincorporated communities. A very different drive here and in #519. Good to see.

Thanks for a great trip down there! I have a friend who just purchased a house next to Audubon Park so I will be heading to New Orleans soon hopefully.

I attended OLPS and would stare out the window watching those old MoPac GP7's and Southern Pacific MP-15's gathering tank cars and delivering bagasse to Celotex. SP had Wigwag grade crossing signals back then before they tore up their line. Another lifetime in a faraway place now.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention anything about the old Plantation that once stood @ River Road and Bridge City Ave.
