He sounds like a wise man, people tend to think of the hammer as a tool of the heavy handed ,less skilled tradesman, but the right hammer in the right hands can be very versatile. Nice, short but sweet video, big thumbs up.
BOTH the vise grip top for starting pins and maybe more so the socket trick on backside of item has made my life so much easier because I can fit a socket in place so many more areas where I wouldn’t be able to fit a jig or a block I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner. Thanks man.!!
Great tip for starting it, keep in mind they make a roll pin punch which has a small ball on it so the pin doesn't expand as you hit it, for hard to reach places I use heat shrink to hold it on the roll pin punch
This is also a handy tip for getting a roll-pin out of a blind hole where you can't drift it out from the other side (such as the peg in the back-plate of a DPA injector pump)
I totally did this yesterday at work, and thought i was the smartest guy in the world! thanx for bringing me back to earth, it is a good trick for a pita job!
WIN!!!! I would love that. I did framing houses in high school and showed up with a little "Home do it yourself" type hammer first day. A guy named "Equator" from Tonga who was twice my size asked to use my hammer. He was setting truss' and his belt was on the floor. He took my hammer and threw it off the roof into the street and advised me to "buy a real F&^*'n hammer. What is this P&*^ S^$&?!" after building the muscle to swing a 28 oz+ hammer I won't go back!
hey brian do you got any experience working on chevy express box trucks? i have one coming to get all new front end steering parts. any tips or things to watch out for?
"And this sucks..." I've been in that neighborhood many times! LOL! I'd like to take your hammer to Habitat and start framing with it and video the expressions...!
Is it typical not to flare the other side of the pin? It seems to me, the shape of the metal is now a cone that might fall out. I'm just trying to understand how they work. Thanks
Brian, what is the purpose of that roll pin in that application? I have never seen one on brake shoes before though for me my last shoe replacement was on my former 2003 Accent.
good to know, but i have to ask, where are you buying your brake shoes? any ones that i've every got that had a pin of some sort were either already installed or held in by a 'e' clip.
Was the "tap, tap, tap check it a little" reference from a Jerry Jeff song? I remember singing the song when I was a lot younger and can't remember the name of the song or who it was that sang it. You are awesome. Please keep the videos coming.
Your method works exactly as described. I was finally able to fit a couple of roll pins that were refusing to go in. Thank you.
Insanely helpful. Never would’ve gotten it without you 😂

thanks for the tip! worked great! a solid surface on the backside also helped ... workbench, vice, or concrete.

Thats genius if you dont have the correct size starter punch. I will use this idea TY
Thanks, I was wondering how to put one of these in and your video helped!

Good trick, thank you; I just have two of them to fit in the trunnion of a table saw I'm rebuilding. Perfect timing.👍🏼

Simple little tricks that I've never thought of. Brian, thanks for your genius.
Awesome. Was installing a new piston head on a Tavor BCG. Thanks.
Welcome beck!
It's not hard to do, it's hard to clean up and dispose of the old stuff properly. You can buy the actual flush stuff for less than $25
VERY GOOD ADVICE! I needed to insert a 3/32" pin into a solenoid plunger for a pinball machine slingshot mechanism.
Thanks!
Sorry, but wouldn't be easier to use the proper tools like a roll pin holder and a roll pin punch?

Just tried this and it didn't work with the vise grip. What material are your tension pins?

Thank you for your efficient presentation.
I saw an ad for radiator flush for $79.95. Is it that hard to do? Looking to save some money.
Thank you very useful. I have to remover a few from my sailboat Bouyancy locks.
Yes they are looking rusted.

Yes it is typical.

What about coiled pins? I have some that are coiled and I wasn't able to squeeze em with vise grips.
NIce trick I'll have to use that. I do my parents' brakes all of the time but they're disk.
I love these tips they help so much
That was a good tip!!! Keep em coming!!!
Simple but effective, as always.
If you use narrower locking liers and come at the pin from the side tou can have the pliers hold the pin for the first hits.
YES!
Thanks, that has been bugging me all morning.
It holds the means for adjusting the self adjust screw
Thx I was getting pissed trying to start the damn pin
