    The Zeiss 32mm f1.8 Touit is one hell of a lens. It's so good it made me switch systems from Canon to Fujifilm and it's one of my absolute favourite lenses i've ever used. Why Zeiss decided to give up on producing lenses for Fujifilm so early on is beyond me, but it is such a shame!
    Have you tried this lens out? Let me know what you thought of it!

    I have used this lens for years on my X-T2 and absolutely love it. When I scroll through my photos on the computer, I can easily pick out the ones I have shot with this lens - not sure why exactly, but they have a different look to them. I think there is a bit more contrast and the colors render beautifully.

    I finally got to use a zeiss 21mm f2.8 distagon lens on my d700 recently. Mind blown at how good the rendering is. At first I was hoping it had better sunstars for landscape but I love the flare it produces. It’s almost cinematic at times. What a beautiful lens it is.

    A video like this was expected. I have worked with Nikon all my life but always with the xpro2 for personal photos. I decided to switch to Fuji last year with the xh2 and I didn't love it. I had left my Zeiss 32mm aside. And I don't know why one day my xh2 and my touit got together and the magic began.

    I use the 32 on an XPRO 1 for that delightful zeiss look, soft colours and film-like rendering - the results are always pleasing a a 48mm equivalent is pretty nice - still tele but that little bit wider for versatility - what's magic here is the sharpness and then the softness of the fall-off into bokeh... just delightful and very similar to the 50mm F1.7 Contax Zeiss I use on Nikon film cameras

    In a world of ever increasing sterility and uniformity of images, the 32mm Touit offers generous degrees of adequacy AND character which serves as a fantastic tool for individuality from the get go.
    The dirt cleans off readily, the few missed focus shots aren’t very frequent, and weather can be watched.
    It pairs nicely with a Dual Range 50mm Summicron in character and personality for those who use multiple formats, but do not let that secret out!
    😆

    The xpro2 was the Fuji camera that won me over and made the system click for me. Originally I tried the xt1 and I just couldn’t get into it but I’m neck deep in Fuji now because of how good the xpro2 is.
    Ive heard good things about the touit lenses but yeah, they were always too expensive to justify their shortcomings (slower aperture and autofocus). Now that they’re a bit cheaper I have that focal length covered so it’s still kind of a tough sale.
    But I used to shoot on contax Zeiss lenses and I do often miss the Zeiss look and feel. And your photo examples for this lens are excellent, so I’ll probably keep an eye out for any particularly cheap copies that might be floating around.

    I have this on my XT5 as a hobbyist, mostly street and casual outdoor portraits - my biggest issue, and why I don't regularly make it a walk around, is the aperture ring. I really wish it was clicky and a bit more sticky; I'm constantly moving the aperture by accident.

    Whilst I wasn't disappointed by this lens, I did recently sell it after having it for a good while ( also after watching GxAce's video ).
    The rendering was a hit and miss for me. Sometimes it could really deliver results I loved but sometimes something just wasn't to my liking. Especially in darker situations but that was likely boosted by the poorer AF performance. The biggest issue though was the rubberised controls. It's a dust magnet and the aperture ring is also way too loose. At least on my copy where I was constantly changing the aperture by accident.
    I don't hate or even dislike the lens but I also have the Fuji 35mm f2 and that was a better fit for my needs. Maybe if I shot more portraits instead of events and the like then the choice would go the other way :)

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto  6 місяців тому +2

      I have the 35 f2 as well, it’s definitely got its advantages over the Zeiss - notably its AF performance thanks to the LM motors is awesome, I find it renders like the 35 1.4 did too, super smooth and nice bokeh - but it lacks that pop and wow factor the Zeiss delivers 85% of the time so I don’t really use it all that much.
      It was half the price though and weather sealed too so definitely an excellent value choice especially if you need critical AF performance!

      Hey! I haven’t tested the new 33 out but I have the 18 so the AF performance definitely would be much better on the 33, these three new primes are the best focusing lenses on the Fuji system.
      It’ll be weather sealed and probably sharper as well, but it won’t have the unique Planar characteristics that make the Touit as special as it is.
      It’s really a “perfect” lens so if that’s what youre after it’s a good one to go for!

    @SummersSnaps 7 місяців тому +3

    Couldn't agree more mate, a special lens indeed. It is astonishing how in conversations surrounding a recommended 33mm lens for X Mount system that this glass is never suggested. I think one of the reasons Zeiss stopped with the Touit line is that basically Fuji owners are not that clued up to rendering traits (or care). They fall for the old tricks, f stop and megapixels. A real shame. I think it is not Zeiss's fault here but likely the market.

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto  7 місяців тому +4

      I think it’s high initial price probably put people off, especially with on paper being 1.8 vs 1.4 for like $400-500 more then the Fuji 35 1.4, and with the cult like status of the Fuji 35 1.4 people just tend to dismiss the Zeiss as a second rate option.
      Some people also don’t enjoy the unique bokeh characteristics and want something a bit more creamy which I think the 35 1.4 definitely achieves, hence why I think both lenses have their place.
      Either way, I’m glad that nowadays they’re the same price so the choice is much more difficult then it was in 2013!

    Hey Matthew, like you I am a big admirer of this lense. Have been using it on XT2 / 3 etc. The other day I upgraded to a XT5. The tragic thing is, this very lense does not fit on my new XT5 - yet the other Zeiss (50 macro) fits perfectly. The Zeiss guy I connected with says there is a problem fitting this on a XT5 and XH2. Have you heard of any one else complaining about this problem ? I see you are using it on your XT5. Would appreciate any feedback possible. The 32 is my absolute favourite.

      @rudermanphoto  5 місяців тому

      That’s very strange! I have no issues using it on either my XH2s nor my XT5, and I haven’t actually heard of any issues with the lens not fitting on these cameras either.
      It might be a problem with your specific lens or camera perhaps? Very odd.

    • @rudermanphoto

      It’s not too bad for video, but its AF is fairly noisy and the speed isn’t quite as fast as modern LM lenses.
      If you use it in manual focus mode it can be a great lens for B roll and I have used it for quite a bit of B-roll in my UA-cam videos though!

      I haven’t read anything that suggests that, Zeiss manufacturers plenty of their manual focus lenses in Japan like their M Mount lenses too.
