The Brightin Star 28mm 2.8 Is Impossibly Thin
Check out my new LR presets here! - geni.us/9Uce2
The Brightin Star 28mm f2.8 lens for M mount is the thinnest lens i've ever used, and its tiny size makes it perfect for making any camera into a compact powerhouse!
The lens is thankfully not just tiny, its also got excellent, vintage lens inspired image quality that has beautifully swirly corners when shot wide open and is remarkably quite sharp when shot stopped down below f5.6!
I think this lens is an awesome option for anyone as it can easily be adapted no matter what mount you use, but it just sings on a M body!
DISCLAIMER: Brightin Star sent me this lens for the purpose of this review and I do not have to send it back, but all thoughts expressed are my own and Brightin Star is seeing this video when you guys see it.

    I love my Billingham bags (Eventer and 335) but their downside is that they are heavy. Great in the British rain, however. One brand that people should look into is Domke. Made in the USA and canvas, they are very light. They’ve been around forever and are made for photojournalists (Jim Domke was one).

    I still own the same xpro1 that i bought april 2012. + 35mmf1.4. The images are indeed special for a digital camera. The functionality is very clumsy compared to so, like my xe4, which has a diopter and focus magnifier that with manual lenses. I sort of would like to sell it because i rarely use it, but it looks so cool, and the price keeps going up

    I have the new 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 for a few days now and I love the build, the zoom range, the size and weight so much! Before I had the 16-80 f/4 which I never used because it was just that tiny bit too large and heavy. I absolutely agree on the 18mm f/1.4, just perfection. Which is why I bought the new 23mm f/1.4 as well now since 23mm is actually my favorite focal length. 😀 I like the 23mm f/2 for its size and weight but in terms of optical performance I am not too happy with it on my 40mp X-T5 to be honest.

    How frustrating it is not to hear anything from Panasonic regarding the S1 range! Their PDAF debuted quite nicely. Ergonomics and features are second to none with LUMIX. They just need to get rid of that crosshair on the eye with targeting reticule around the head graphics, it’s very annoying and we need faster feedback.

    Love the videos. Getting back into photography after a long layoff. Bought a Nikon Z8 and a bunch of lenses, and I love it, but it is a beast. Size and weight are really a problem for travel and street shooting. So I bought an XT-5, which couldn't be more different from an ergonomic standpoint. Now I prefer the Fujifilm camera for most situations. Followed your recommend on the Zeiss 32mm and that is my goto package for walking around now. You are spot on about image quality not being the one and only thing to think about. If your camera doesn't inspire you to create, you might need to consider other options. I have a video planned where I’ll be discussing the best flash for Lumix cameras, but out of all that I’ve tried the Westcott Fj80 se/Jinbei HD1 (they are the same flash) are the best - there seems to be a strange shutter delay with the Godox V1Pro when used with Lumix cameras. Unfortunately flash performance on Lumix is no where near as good as other brands due to some strange internal lumix specific quirks but yeah westcott/Jinbei seems to be the best option I’ve found so far.

    All the buzz over the X100VI has me looking at Fujifilm camera’s for the first time. I switched form Nikon to Sony about 10 years ago, and happily stayed with Sony because of the incredible lenses. Fuji’s color profile and film similuation are definitely the main temptation though. Where Sony has gradually improved their color science, it’s been a slow process. Here’s the thing I’m seeing as dig deeper though - is Fuji color too distinctive? I get the whole fun factor, and that’s what I’m after too, but I have to admit that the photo examples I see from UA-cam reviewers are all starting to look alike. How do you keep your own signature style when Fuji has such a strong look of their own? That seems to be the big question.

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto 8 днів тому

      This video is funny because I actually ended up switching to Lumix after being very disappointed with Fuji’s performance for pro work especially with regards to its reliability (my XH2s needed to be replaced 3 times in the span of 9 months and that was enough to get me to ditch it) I now just have an xpro1 as my only Fuji camera and love it for personal work but no I cannot recommend anyone buy Fuji for professional work, it just doesn’t make sense anymore especially with how expensive it is and how far behind it is full frame in many aspects like autofocus and low light too. There’s plenty of valid reasons to still buy a Fuji and the old Fuji’s are awesome but I personally wouldn’t buy a new Fuji camera, not after the headaches I dealt with using them. Fuji colours are great but honestly so is any other camera manufacturer when you shoot in RAW, unless you are strictly shooting film simulations there is not going to be that big of a difference, the difference is more so in the handling and size of the camera, especially vs full frame offerings.

  • @jandekker6008

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto 8 днів тому

      I believe it just reads it through the lens, it doesn’t need to know the aperture. Either way, you can physically see the difference on the screen as you open/close the aperture so it’s not a big deal.

    Great video, and thank you for testing this product! The Panasonic S1R has been quite a niche product since its release in 2019. Similarly, there are very few tests of L-mount lenses available. However, I genuinely believe that Panasonic cameras offer excellent value for money. When comparing cameras with similar specifications from other brands like Sony, Nikon, and Canon, Panasonic’s pricing is much more affordable. I am a Panasonic S5 user myself, and to be honest, I was initially worried about its autofocus. But after using it for a long time, I found that it hasn’t significantly impacted my shooting experience. Even though people are saying that the second generation of the S1R is about to be released, I would still consider getting the first generation as my high-resolution camera. Buy the way after watching your review of the LUMIX S PRO 50mm lens, I decided to get one myself. I’m really looking forward to it!

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto 9 днів тому

      Thank you so much for the kind words! While I believe the S1Rii will probably come out sometime in the next 6-12 months and just be a rebadged SL3, and I’m sure it’ll be an incredible camera - it will cost probably 3-4x what the S1R does on the used market, which makes it far less attainable making the S1R still an excellent camera if your budget doesn’t allow you to drop 4-5 grand on a high resolution camera brand new. I absolutely love the Lumix cameras and I think they are seriously underrated for photography + L mount glass is sensational, especially that 50 1.4!!! You are going to love that thing, just hit the gym to make sure you can carry it around 😂

    T-stops are only usable with lenses that make corrections for what is called "focus breathing". The "number" in F/number as well as the "f" are only valid with a lens focused at infinity - in the case of lenses that have no compensation of focus breathing. So when a lens has the focus breathing correction, this solves two problems: rather than faulty f/numbers, a fair indication in T stops of how much light comes through, and, no more "aperture breathing". In order to get focus breathing suppressed, a prime lens's design must become a subtle zoom lens's where the extension of focal length (by focusing closer by than infinity) is compensated by shortening the focal length (zooming out a bit, precisely in relation to the focus breathing effect). A lens being a zoom lens does not mean that is has focus breathing. It's possible but not a rule.

    I have this lens and it’s wonderful, my copy focus throw is butter, not stiff at all but, mine was well used. I love the D series lenses of the older Nikkors and the rare and pricey 28mm F/1.4 D lens is phenomenal. I like the 85mm f/1.4 D as well or for portraits the 105mm f/2 DC is a stunner!

    When resizing you can click 'centimeters', change it to 'percent', then type in 160

    It's getting a bit boring. All those videos titled - "This Lens Turns Everything Into A Hollywood Movie", or something similar. I play the video hoping it will be something different than Another anamorphic lens, and it turns out it is indeed... another anamorphic lens. Maybe im just jealous.

      Sorry the thumbnail didn’t give it away!

      @@rudermanphoto No problem. It's just funny, how many videos there are recently about anamorphic lenses, and they all have similar titles, that's it. The thumbnail was ok, and i had a feeling what was the topic of the video anyway.
