In my video I comment that the key doesn't work well in the lock. Thanks to all who wrote that the key should be removed after unlocking the handle ( while tightening). Saying that, I still think this is a weak point in this bike carrier as the handle does not in my mind do a great job of tightening the piece in the hitch that secures the unit.
I agree I think the lock and the tightening handle are pretty hoakey for an otherwise solid rack. It seems like they designed it without thinking at all about security then 'that guy' (the negative, pessimistic guy who's always pointing out flaws) on the team said wait a minute what's to stop someone from stealing the whole rack? And everyone groaned and hastily threw in a lock just to shut him up. The part that keeps the entire freaking rack from flying off the car when you are on the highway ought to be rock solid and confidence inspiring. It isn't.
It's really annoying. This happened to me. I tried to work the lock according to Thule's instructions (only two seasons of use) and read a few other "experts" opinions, it was a no-win for me. I cant express how frustrating it is to purchase an expensive bike rack only to be thwarted by a two dollar lock!
@@zinser1819 wasn't that what you were complaining about? not sure what the design problem is. i have mine on a much heavier key chain, so if i tried to keep the key in the hole while tighten or loosening it, it would not work very well.
I cannot get my Thule swing to retract, in other words when extended, I cannot get it back. Yes I am pressing the grey button down, even with assistance it is still locked.
Don't leave the key in. Read the installation instructions.
Very good video! This hitch comparison is the best. Exactly what we were looking for. Thank you!
Your video helped me understand why my rack was swaying so much from the receiver. Thank you!
TAKE THE KEY OUT IN EITHER LOCKED OR UNLOCKED MODE and quit giving it a hand job!
Alex Hames any tips if you take the key out and it still spins off the threading?
@@matts88 that means it's locked
You need to take the key out before you turn the knob.
+Brittny Jones thanks .
Very helpful video!!!!

All of their racks with that handle works the same, it is made like that. Is not a weakness on the rack, its the user's

I have the same one. You don't need to leave the key in when you're turning the knob.
+Nolan Gaudreau I figured that after posting. should be able to but guess its not really made that way

You seriously didn’t think to remove the keys?? 😱
Please read previous reply to this question. ( but yes I did, )
That's petty!
Take the key out
remove the key then turn.
Bruh!
you know you're suppose to tighten first then lock it, right? problem solved.
No kidding? Really?😉
