Thule APEX 4 Bike Rack Review and Demo

- The Thule APEX 4 is easy to load and unload. The Hold Fast RDT (Road Dampening Technology) Cradles™ absorb shock to protect the bikes during transport. Bike-to-bike contact is prevented by the patented No-Sway Cages™. The integrated lock secures the bikes to the rack for maximum security and can be stored in the rack when bikes are not loaded. This rack’s arched arm design makes for greater ground clearance and a greater distance between the bikes. The rack can also be tilted down to ensure the rear of the vehicle is still accessible.
-Carries 1 to 4 bikes up to 35 lbs. each (140 lbs. total carrying capacity)
-Compatible with all vehicles equipped with a 1-1/4” or 2” receiver hitch

I want to see you mount and tie down four same sized bikes onto the rack. Only then can I determine if this rack works for me.
i loaded up three cruisers and a trek mountain bike, they all fit, but ladies bikes that don't have the triangle require a bit of puzzle solving..which i did

Great video, couple of questions it didn’t answer for me though...Am I to assume U-haul rents these or are they only for sale? Also, how doe that locking strap prevent theft? Looks like you only put it on top of the bike...pretty sure the bike could still be removed. Are you supposed to loop it through each bike? If you you do, will it still be able to reach the locking mechanism with the key?
Nice demo but I would like to know how it is with 2 adults bikes and 2 kids bikes (1 x 20" girls & 1 x 16" boys)? Apparently some of this type don't fit the kids bikes well even with an adaptor.

I'm sure you "could", but I don't think that would be the best option. If you're struggling to accommodate the rear shock, I'd use a bike frame adapter.
Do you have to secure the front wheel?
Of course simple triangle frame. How about different frames. I am completely disappointed in this rack. Other frames are a chore to fight over the grips. Not recommending this rack for any other than simple triangle frames

Let's say all the wobble is gone from the connection. Is the actual rack supposed to move?
They do have a small amount of play in the pivot points but shouldn't be anything to be concerned about.

i got to check Australian Authorities might nick me for obstructing a number plate,is there attachment for a plate on the bars?
Have read that we will get booked for obstructing the number plate and doesn't surprise me at all. Did you find anything different? Maybe some states worse than other but bet NSW cops would book me.
@@oldscorpsfan i bought a light board and got a bike plate because now kids growing bigger ,bikes get bigger, so all our bikes cover tail lights now.was told by rack guy when i drove out with empty rack on tow hitch ,he said can get nicked with out bikes.nsw

How do you hang a girls bike without the top horizontal frame?
You buy a frame adaptor and use that

Is this suitable for e-bikes?
This Bike rack has a 35 pound per Bike weight Limit. And a 140 pound total weight limit.
Integrated cable was cut...can't be replaced...super lame to include a lock that is both cheap/easy to defeat and can't be replaced when it is...
150 lb weight capacity is awful low
Well, you take the people off of the bikes before you mount the bikes on the rack :)
How many bikes are you mounting and how heavy are they individually?
