That`s one thing I would never get used to. Had one call yesterday and it was obvious he was in a call center 101 voices all merging into 1 and the guy sounded like he was talking through a plastic cup over his mouth. Told him to phone back on a better phone line ( *Because I wanted some fun in my boring day* ) but he didn't seem to want to call back. I the end I was having too many difficulties understand WTF he was even talking about so I just started repeating "No spreken de ing-rish" till he quit and hung up. I don't think these people have any idea how much entertainment they provide to those of us that are onto their little game.
Unfortunately some people do fall for these scams, which is the reason why they are still doing them. They use internet programs which generate the calls for them and can make up to a thousand calls within a couple days, but it only takes one person who isn't hip to this kind of thing, such as an elderly person or a young person with not much life experience who has never received this type of call, to get scared, fall for it, and then pay out a couple thousand bucks or more to them. This, after the exchange rate in the country they are calling from, can be several months salary or more to some of these people, which would make it all worthwhile to them, unfortunately.

These are most often the people who are taken advantage of by these unscrupulous people. And often they (elderly) do not see these types of things on youtube. I get two or three scam calls every day. A lady with asian accent called about my Amazon account, I politely asked her if this was a scam call, yes, she replied, so I said thank you and have a good day. She said thank you, you too and hung up.

I'm a college student, and I once came across one of these Student Loan Forgiveness scams on the internet. I immediately knew it was a scam because the page was full of grammar and spelling errors. Everyone makes those once in a while, but, it looked like the work of a 2nd grader. So, I backed out and reported it to the BBB.
I am your newest fan, Julie!!!! Oh, this is about student loans. A new scam, how convenient they called you while on camera and absolutely ridiculous that he didn't pay any attention to your company name. He probably doesn't know what the BBB is anyway.
Folks needs to follow just two rules 1. "if it sounds too good to be true, run away" 2. Never ever provide anyone with your full DOB and/or SSN. If the call is legitimate then caller will have other ways to identify you.

I worked answering phones at a place for a while and about 1/4 of our calls were from call centers overseas. You could always tell who would be the best on the phone by their name. Fake American name meant it was gonna be a rough one. Anybody using a real name by far spoke the best English and understood what they were doing the best.
Forgiveness ID for student loans?...I have a loan that was recently forgiven, there is no ID number. To get a loan forgiven you have to have a disability or proof of financial hardship, then fill out a bunch of paper work and send it in, it's not done by lottery.
Play the game, waste all the time you can get on his nerves ,say what,excuse me,i dont understand. hold on, on and on. Mess his day up by holding him on the line till he realises your on to him . Thats what i do.

I worked for a tack shop that has a website. I got an email from a man named Jim Johnson who wanted to buy 5 saddles but wanted to use 2 different credit cards to pay for them. The first flag was that he didn't say what size saddles he wanted, then he emailed me the actual credit card numbers that he wanted to use. He then called me, still using the name "Jim Johnson" but had a foreign accent. Our accounting department contacted the credit card companies that issued the cards and they contacted the customers who didn't know that their card numbers were stolen.

I was a telephone customer service rep w/ a federal government agency for many years so I have a lot of experience talking w/ people on the phone. A couple of years ago I got a voicemail saying that IRS was filing lawsuits against me and gave me a number to call. The area code was in Montana. I didn't return the call but I did send the details to IRS via their web page. Never heard from them. my comment posted 07/16/2018

But when I get scammers....I change my accent and say .. Oh my goodness. You need to be for taking my number off your list. I work for the company out of Bombay... Please do not call me.
I always talk softly to them so that they are forced to turn up their volume. After I'm sure that they have turned up the volume I ask for them to wait a moment. At this time I put on hearing protection then give them a good toot with my boat horn. I usually hear a lot of expletives right afterwards and they almost never call me back. :-)
It is a shame that we have to put up with this stuff. The phone companies could block it, but they make a profit from these crooks. Thanks for this advice.

Whenever I get calls from the scammer saying my student loan will be forgiven, I tell them that since I paid it off in the 1970's, I ask them when I can expect my refund....... and if I will get the 50 years interest that accrued since I paid it off.

I got a call from one of those companies with an American accent about the time I was looking to consolidate. They would just make my monthly payments for me after I paid them -- if I tried to prepay, it would not shorten my payback period

Whenever I get calls from the scammer saying my student loan will be forgiven, I tell them that since I paid it off in the 1970's, I ask them when I can expect my refund....... and if I will get the 50 years interest that accrued since I paid it off.

I got a call from one of those companies with an American accent about the time I was looking to consolidate. They would just make my monthly payments for me after I paid them -- if I tried to prepay, it would not shorten my payback period
