Darrell, would you like actually to hear how that kind of a call would sound?? There are scambaiters who make those calls. There are no IRS/CRA vs Tech support, but there are tech support vs tech support, IRS vs CRA & CRA vs IRS. Check it out. 😂

That`s one thing I would never get used to. Had one call yesterday and it was obvious he was in a call center 101 voices all merging into 1 and the guy sounded like he was talking through a plastic cup over his mouth. Told him to phone back on a better phone line ( *Because I wanted some fun in my boring day* ) but he didn't seem to want to call back. I the end I was having too many difficulties understand WTF he was even talking about so I just started repeating "No spreken de ing-rish" till he quit and hung up.
I don't think these people have any idea how much entertainment they provide to those of us that are onto their little game.

Unfortunately some people do fall for these scams, which is the reason why they are still doing them. They use internet programs which generate the calls for them and can make up to a thousand calls within a couple days, but it only takes one person who isn't hip to this kind of thing, such as an elderly person or a young person with not much life experience who has never received this type of call, to get scared, fall for it, and then pay out a couple thousand bucks or more to them. This, after the exchange rate in the country they are calling from, can be several months salary or more to some of these people, which would make it all worthwhile to them, unfortunately.

The first flag was that he didn't say what size saddles he wanted, then he emailed me the actual credit card numbers that he wanted to use. He then called me, still using the name "Jim Johnson" but had a foreign accent. Our accounting department contacted the credit card companies that issued the cards and they contacted the customers who didn't know that their card numbers were stolen.

I hate scammers as I used to work in Customer Service..Amex Delta..etc.. Easy inbound calls helping with clients accts.
But when I get scammers....I change my accent and say .. Oh my goodness. You need to be for taking my number off your list. I work for the company out of Bombay... Please do not call me.

I always talk softly to them so that they are forced to turn up their volume. After I'm sure that they have turned up the volume I ask for them to wait a moment. At this time I put on hearing protection then give them a good toot with my boat horn. I usually hear a lot of expletives right afterwards and they almost never call me back. :-)

It is a shame that we have to put up with this stuff. The phone companies could block it, but they make a profit from these crooks. Thanks for this advice.

The people at those companies used to drive me completely insane. I used to work for one of the actual Federal Student Loan Servicers and people would call in complaining to us all the time about these "debt relief" companies who would charge them $600 or more just to do their paperwork for them.

I love the windows calls ...I always play dumb and keep them on the phone as long as I can ...I start by asking to speak to Bill first...I say I am friends with hins just transfer this call to him and then once I say Hi we'll fix the problem...when they say they dont know who Bill is I say WHAT? I mean Bill Gates! Your boss right? ...it is amazing how long they will keep on the line ...when after many pleas to talk to Bill fail THEN I start on them for being crooks and trying to rob people they dont even know and how can they sleep at night doing all this wicked evil stuff to people? ...the often start cursing and threatening me etc

Whenever I get calls from the scammer saying my student loan will be forgiven, I tell them that since I paid it off in the 1970's, I ask them when I can expect my refund....... and if I will get the 50 years interest that accrued since I paid it off.

If all the ladies in Wisconsin are as lovely as you I am going to move! January 13th 1990? No way! More Like 1997. I do hope you rang him back to get your funds! I mean, this is obviously a legitimate company and you could be missing out on $000's! I mean, as the man said, "We are a legitimate company!"
Err, OK! You got to love these scammers! They really do try and steal money from you any way they can and fail, miserably! Congrats on the call! Even out of the blue you sounded professional and genuine! Brilliant! We need more of you!
