But imagine if they applied the same policy with harvey and syndeagard, who were on similar trajectories at the time, but ended up not reaching the same level. If you set a precedent like that, you end up getting burnt. DeGrom happened to pan out exactly as expected, but more often than not it's better to wait with pitchers before committing.

      Degrom is their ace. Clueless baseball fans think syndrrgaard and Harvey were their aces. Clues individuals that don’t understand pitching and what it takes to stay healthy and to be able to throw hard like after u enter u 30s. Harvey and syndergaard are straight dust and always were compared to degrom. Not even kinda close, he’s miles ahead of both of them and probably can’t even lift as much as either of them. Watch highlights, and if you’re even kinda smart you’ll see degrom is their ace.

Last year if I remember correctly even made a joke about his pay compared to other pitchers with less talent. I'm a Mets fan but Michael Kay is right. They were under no obligation to sign deGrom to an extension now but let me be clear, I'm glad they did. It was already becoming a distraction. So much so, Syndergaard & several other players were publicly voicing their displeasure. Management should never make business decisions based on criticism or pressure, whether it's coming from players, fans or anyone else. That being said, we're talking about the Mets here. It almost certainly would've blown up in their face if they waited. It also shows the rest of the team they'll be rewarded if they produce, which is a very good thing, in my opinion.

  • @raheyna8888
    @raheyna8888 5 років тому

    The point with signing deGrom now is because they control 5 years now instead of 2. The Mets will have deGrom for ages 30, 31, 32, 33, 34. Those could be essentially his last remaining GREAT years before he hits age 35 and starts to decline. If the Mets waited longer and deGrom continued to be the ace he is, then deGrom most likely leaves at age 32 and signs elsewhere. The Mets did the right thing by locking him up for those other 3 years. Idk why this is hard to understand...

    DeGrom extension looks to be a genius move even more so now. If they waited a year, it would of cost them a 100 million more.

      You. Can’t compare the Yankees extension and degrom extension the Yankees had all those years of control anyway that was to cover arbitration cuz that’s shits akward they had him anyway

    • @anthonym7133
      @anthonym7133 5 років тому

      @@hunterdvs6535 what are you talking about? That's the very thing he's arguing. He's fake mad at the Mets having two more years of arbitration. The Yankees offer is worst by his logic.

      Yup I'm a Reds fan until this season the Reds really hadn't spent to much money. Yet a couple years ago Eugenio Suarez our best player no longer Votto. They signed Suarez 7 years 56 million if the Reds waited til his contract was up he would have been gone. Kay is use to the Yankees not signing people until last minute when they open the checkbook. The Reds & the rest of the small markets Tampa, Pittsburgh, Oakland they can't wait & that is why Kay is lost.

    Kay was running his mouth about this saying it was a bad idea to give him the contract but look what happened, two CY youngs and had they waited a year they would have to pay him close to what Gerrit Cole got.

    If I were the Mets I would tell degrom, do what you did or close to it again and than I’ll give you a 5 year contract. Show me you can be consistent. Brodie probably did it to make Jacob happy going into this season and take of the heat of the situation, but if it goes bad all the heat is on Brodie and his ass is on grill for all these moves. It’s gutsy that he wants to content but after the Harper deal there is no way the Mets compete against braves, Nats and phills. Bryce will put up big numbers in citizens park. Jean segura trade was huge for philly. Mets just put themselves in a long drought with depletion of farm system and money on the books..for future signings. They better pray Rosario and comforto have mvp numbers. If they’re going to rely Wilson Ramos as a star forget it.

    There was no harm in signing DeGroom people early. The Wilpons owned the Mets at the time and all they do is sign 1 big player at a time. Cohen is about to spend a fortune in these next few years. I feel for him. Degroom opting out asking for 50 million. Conforto gonna get 20-25, Stroman 20-25, Lindor got 30+, Noah gonna get QO 15-20. Thats next year alone lol along w other FA they gotta sign.

    if a guy is going to make more money in arbitration next year then the 1st yr of his new contract then it would make sense to let him come back on another yr of arbitration.
