If I were the Mets I would tell degrom, do what you did or close to it again and than I’ll give you a 5 year contract. Show me you can be consistent. There was no harm in signing DeGroom people early. The Wilpons owned the Mets at the time and all they do is sign 1 big player at a time. Cohen is about to spend a fortune in these next few years. I feel for him. Degroom opting out asking for 50 million. Conforto gonna get 20-25, Stroman 20-25, Lindor got 30+, Noah gonna get QO 15-20. Thats next year alone lol along w other FA they gotta sign.

if a guy is going to make more money in arbitration next year then the 1st yr of his new contract then it would make sense to let him come back on another yr of arbitration.
