I’m not even a New York sports fan and I watch this every few months whenever I need to laugh. This is epic. I think why it has stood the test of time as his greatest rant is because it felt natural. @@jpetersgoyanks It does show how things can change in just a few short years. I laughed my ass off at "They killed Gil Hodges" until i realized that he probably wasn't wrong. He had a heart attack late in the season in 1968. The way he managed that young club had to have been stressful as hell, especially after 1969, when the club wasn't doing as well after the World Series. The Stress of the Mets probably didn't help his cardiac health.
How dare Don forget Mariano when mentioning Yankees "forever players" Never knew just how unfortunate the mets were until watching this. Made my day. Thanks Don!

Rob Carson, Jordany Valdespin,Ron Hodges, Al Jackson even tho he left in the mid 60's he came back in 69 and has been with the Mets for about 45 of their 56 years. Those are the forever Mets.
Something that’ll probably be overlooked from this rant is the small line of “Washington has 2”. Not the biggest baseball fan, but pretty sure he’d be talking about Harper and Turner. Both now Phillies. LETS FUCKING GOOO PHILS
Which was on of all days "Phil Rizzuto Day" at Yankee Stadium. GEORGE as I remember was furious about it, so much so they eventually did a second "Phil Rizzutto Day" (though the Yanks did invite Lindsey Nelson to call the 9th inning of Seaver's 300th). One of the biggest ironies of Seaver's career that he got his 300th in Yankee Stadium. Another irony was four years later he actually was calling play-by-play for the YANKEES.
RIP Ed Kranepool. Don said his only regret about this rant is that it came across to some as though he was mocking Ed, when Ed was actually one of his all-time favorite Mets (as he says towards the tail end of this video.)
