In your last video where you're holding a knife in one hand and swinging the axe in the other... I love it! 😍 If you ever make a standard opening for your videos, please please please please please add that to it.
I know just about everything covered in this video, aside from using the compass. I know geometry and navigation, but I simply never thought of using the compass that way. Sometimes, it’s that one additional little thing I can pickup, that makes the video for me.
Nicely done, you hit all the major points of felling a tree. There are very few resources that explain the proper techniques for safely felling a tree.
Awesome show and tell and informational I have two standing dead trees 🌲 in the back yard that need to fall away from the fence thanks for the tutorial GBGB 👍👌✌️🫡🇺🇸
Thanks for the upload. I do have a question though. That 45 degree up cut? I've always taught to never do this as you might get a glancing blow that brings the Axe back towards your face. Why, because it is the way I was taught. (Mors Kochanski) I am in no way saying you are wrong, many ways to skin a cat, but, have you ever had a near miss with that? I wanted to get over on this winter course with Graves and your self but the flights killed it, regards from the UK.
Axes cut way better at a 45 than they do 90 degrees to the tree. You can get more done with less blows so there is a smaller chance of having it deflect dangerously I would think.
Great Video. I used to cut down standing dead trees myself, with a chainsaw when I heated with wood. The OAKS are the worst, for their sap wood is thick and will draw moisture.
THANKS for this video! This is just what I needed to teach my fiancee how to fell a tree, because our property is almost 100% forest with lots of standing deadwood... and our source of off-grid heat will be a wood-burning stove.
I know they don't look cool, but safety glasses are a really good idea. Getting something in your eye sucks bad enough when your in civilization, let alone a few miles into the woods.

At first, I thought the clinometer was to evaluate which direction the tree tends to tilt into🥴.
Great instructional, I learned a lot!
Good video. Great information. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
You must be close to Fort Drum, with all that snow
Truth. But this was filmed in Maine
@@GrayBeardedGreenBeret 👍
@@GrayBeardedGreenBeret Fort Drum was my base in the late 80’s , and I don’t miss the snow. I live in North Georgia now. Much better weather.
I still live near Drum. I love the cold 😂

Great video,thanks 👍 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
That's one sharp video, thanks for the info. 👌🤠👍
I simply took the square root of the the hypotenuse of the median acute angle, then divided by Pi, multiplied by 1/360, then added 10. Much simpler
Informative and beneficial video!

I haven’t ever had that happen, no. I don’t think it’s any more risky than the angled down cut glancing off and hitting your legs .

Link to that sweet wool jacket you're wearing?
Lester River Bushcraft, I don’t have a link but that’s where it comes from
