    A VW parts bin special. No stupid screens , real handbrake , dials , cd player , all excellent .

      I think that if you are of the Ian Seabrook persuasion, then the shameless poverty specification of this car is wonderful. For me, it's a bit too much!

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting I’m much older than you, so poverty spec today was opulent when I had my first few cars ! A decent stereo with , importantly a cd player, I have thousands, is essential, beyond that central locking, power steering and probably air on is necessary. As you know my car has beige leather, looks fantastic, easy to maintain, a huge bonus when I bought the car, with heated front seats, never use, always got trousers on ! The satnav I have never used, don’t often use cruise control, too much traffic. Can’t stand the “driving aids” either . One very good feature is the reversing camera though.

      @lloydvehicleconsulting  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes sir, no driving aids, no air conditioning and really not much in the way of excitement at all. My uncle's Rapid Spaceback that I filmed in 2021 is slightly more luxurious, but not by much. He has had it for almost six years now, and I don't think that he will be selling it any time soon.

    Excellent review, even in this basic spec, it's still looks decadence by Hubnut standards. It does have a certain charm of being no nonsense and dependable with just enough to keep things civilized.

    Oh we do love a Base Level Skoda here.... You can see where the Mark 3 Fabia got all its parts from, very similiar car inside and out.
    The alloys have been added as the original S trim would have had wheel trims.
    Have to agree with you not a huge fan of the front end, but then I Say that about all Skoda's of this era onwards.
    An excellent review as always Sir.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  7 місяців тому

      Yes, the front suspension is very similar to a Mark III Fabia, although the back end is different. Very similar engines, gearboxes and interior components, as you say. For me, it has to be a much higher specification than this to be worth considering, but there are others who would disagree with me about that...

  • @David_H-73
    @David_H-73 7 місяців тому

    Its an S Greentech with stopstart , slightly lower co2 and bik. The interior is relentless grey misery, and yet the E spec was even more basic with manual mirrors and a lower spec radio. I had a Sport as a courtesy car a few years ago, i took the opportunity to buy 6 large bags of bark chippings and there was still room to spare. Although better equipped the Sport still had surprising specification omissions even compared to its Spaceback sibling. Your Toledo was positively luxurious in comparison.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  7 місяців тому

      Over the last ten years, Skoda seems to have developed an attitude that if you want a fully equipped car, you need to resort to the options list, which means that the cars look attractively priced, but in order to bring them up to scratch, ticking those options boxes brings them close to the price of everything else. The SE-L and Sport models were indeed much more spartan than a Toledo Xcellence, unless you got some options, hence why I did not buy a Rapid back in the day.

    Would you say it is good for a first car at 17? i dont really like the look of hatchbacks in general but this design looks more like a saloon but doesn't cost a fortune to insure for a new driver, and i've found a brilliant deal for £4k for first year insurance plus the car. need a nice roomy car aswell =)

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting

      As these Rapids and Toledos are essentially longer versions of the 9N Volkswagen Polo with different rear suspension, there is no reason why they shouldn't be just as cheap to run as one of those. The question is really what you prefer, as they share a lot of the same characteristics in terms of reliability. My uncle has had a 2017 Rapid Spaceback since 2018, which has a similar engine to this, and he has no plans to sell it.

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting Thank you for the quick response - do you know how many miles he has on it? The one I am looking at is a good deal about £2k for car and £2k for 1st year insurance, but I am worried as it has 120,000 miles. One friend says that's fine but other one says big no. I hear the car is still very reliable even with that distance on it however.
      I'm a big fan of the saloon look of the car, but it still is a hatchback so insurance is fairly cheap

    It's just a shame VW have made the Skoda marque so boring. I remember sitting in a new Skoda Fabia some years ago and feeling an overwhelming sensation of depression coming over me at the blandness of the dashboard. I normally like simple, basic design but this just felt life sapping in it's lack of flair in any way.
    I ended up buying a second hand Jaguar XF which was joyous. Such a pity that Skoda is just another faceless VW product.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  7 місяців тому +1

      It's quite telling that the Scala that replaced the Rapid is a much better looking, higher quality and better specified car. A Mark II Fabia that I have driven also had a very plain interior, which was most certainly corrected in the Mark IV. Not everyone is really bothered by that sort of thing (my uncle isn't, and will probably have his Rapid Spaceback forever), but my Mark IV Toledo was ever so much nicer than this.

    The Skoda Octavia engines are getting smaller and smaller, with massive turbos, which will in a start space of time, hurt the buyer, and make VW regret it.

    Mr Khan should be wearing a mask and only come out after dark.
    If Londoners vote for him they had better be prepared to pay to use their EVs, their bicycles and even charging for the privilege of using Public Transport once they have been forced onto it while fares will automatically double to keep Mr Khan in the luxury that he has become accustomed to.
    My Son has already purchased 3 beautiful Mercedes vehicles which have fallen foul of ULEZ Charging from very regretful careful owners.
