That's the Gutmann Explorer! I found one at the big Tucson swap meet, not nearly in as good condition as yours.
Mine is the Camo Wilderness 21-059 version with camo paint on the aluminum handle. The coating on the blade was shot, so I sanded it down to clean metal. I may end up repainting the handle. I'm making a sheath for it, so I'll try to give it a scout carry option. The compass was gone, but I found one off of Amazon that fits. Everyone needs a couple of mall ninja knives in the spirit of First Blood. I think the blade bedding is solid. The aluminum handle is thick and strong. The blade looks like it was pressed into the handle hard with a hydraulic press. I don't see that getting loose.

Thank you so much for sharing.Awesome! I have a subscriber who lives in Japan and he said the 440 steel was made much stronger and better and this was solid.Your input is much appreciated.Thank you 😊🔪👍

You're doing great man, don't worry too much about it. The sheath maintaining it's water resistant & shine should be good to go and as for the knife looks fine to me with the rust gone just touch up the edge. I always like my knives having some signs of use/worn blueing/black out & scratches but not nicks on the edge that is a sign of 'battle/survival proven' credentials; cheerio have a good weekend.

I'll be 54 next month, I still have mine. I bought it new for $50 in the 80',s in Branson Missouri. Mine is in relatively new condition with the addition of the compass end cap. I saw First Blood the movie and had to have it

Looks great. I want to redue the ww2 era machete but i dont know if i should? There's no story to it or paper work that it has a story to tell, but it sure would look good refurbished. Do you think it would be disrespectful to redue a piece from history?

That’s a tough question for me to answer.Remember my friend from my work brought in his uncle’s Vietnam Ka-Bar for me to share on my channel? It was awhile back.I was honored to have the chance to share it.There was a story behind it. I could feel it when I held it in my hand. That one I would never refurbished it.I thanked him for letting me share it and returned it to him. And then those family heirlooms I was given.I restored those and it felt right 😊🔪👍

I think if there's no rust should be fine. I may have 2 machetes without sheath just like yours from my father, i believe it's USMC issued 1944/45 with bakelite handles & a leather lanyard, it's well rusted pitted black along both sides of both blades but holding up very well with a keen edge when i got it in 1973 but kept it till 2003, regretfully sold off with my 45 pieces of blades collection. Ever use both on jungle operations through my years of service only issue is it doesn't have sheaths besides the weight & length but it beats issued machetes/off the shelf types which does the job but there's a difference of quality steel...bushwhacking is highly effiecent & not that tiring, 1 stroke a 3" diameter tree branch cracks dropping off; my father told me that 2 have taken some Jap soldiers life not sure his doing or those who gifted it to him he didn't mentioned.

Nice knives except for the weird serrations on the spine.
