    Thank you!! This was my last resort to get into the frunk when all other methods failed due to not having the battery connected. I used pliers to pull downward and it opened right away. Thanks for posting this !

    This video saved my so much hassle today, Thank you! The trunk release is exactly the same on a 987 Cayman and boxter.

    this will 100% work. Crazy that porsche designed the frunk like this. Make sure to pull that cable very HARD. It took more force than i would have thought to unlatch the latch.

    You are correct. Just pull with vice grips and the truck will release.

    It does work and that’s exactly what it’s for. Grab it with some vice grips and give it a good steady hard pull.
    Just did it to my 997.2 today after the fuse panel jump hack wouldn’t work due to battery being completely dead.

      That’s great news to hear that someone has actually used it, and it worked. You might want to reroute your “hood” or engine cover emergency release cable. It located underneath the drivers side taillight. It terminates there but to remove the taillight you have to pop the engine cover. So I routed mine thru a hole under the taillight and right above the tailpipe. Easy to get to in case I need it. I think I mention it in my update video.

      I had disconnected my battery to remove a. Door panel and avoid setting off the airbag. Mistakenly close the hood and was able to use jumper cables to my truck battery and the drunk opened. I had tried a lot of chargers etc and they did not work but the cables to a battery will give you the juice to open it up.

      That is correct. My neighbors 2006 Cayman had a totally dead battery. The cable is in the exact location as the 997. I used some pliers or vise grips. It is hard to pull. The advice to do a steady hard pull is appropriate because snapping it would be be a bad thing.

    My car is tucked in the parking spot with the right side against the wall. I was dreading the cable was on that side. Hopefully my mom's car is like yours and I can get through the left wheel like yours. Thanks for posting!

    I think you're spot on, it's the manual "back up" if the switch won't release the hood. Pull on the end in the wheel well and that cable will pull on the housing and release the latch. My 987 is actually stuck right now and I'm going to give this a whirl. Thanks for posting.

      @@mikefranky Nahhh, and I'm kind of stuck. This is all because I had to replace the latch mechanism, and it worked 5-10 times after I did, I'm not sure why it's not popping now. I think there might be another release cable in the passenger wheel well and I'm hoping that one does the trick?

    Keep us posted. I did pull on the wire and it didn’t seem to do much. Maybe someone had done some work on the latch and cable prior to my ownership. I think it is a release and I need to delve into it a bit more. Thanks for the comment

    Hello, I can't open rear hood with the same operation, I tried to find a cable but no way for Porsche 911 Carrera S 2005, please help to find this cable.

    • @didifixthat7910

      I think I mention it in my rear bumper removal video. So basically under the driver side tail light there is a cable. I ran mine down so it is above the muffler on the drivers side. I really don’t know how you would get to it without removing the tail light. It’s crazy that from the factory it was routed like that, I assume mine was factory routed and was just lying underneath the tail light. Good luck and keep me posted on how you solved your problem.

    Solenoid failed and emergancy cable failed .now what ,anyone know how to enter front trunck

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  3 роки тому

      I can assume that you have a good battery, if not jump it. Also is switch good? If not try jumping the pins to activate solenoid. If solenoid and cable are truly failed, I have other options other than drilling thru the hood. I’m sorry.

      Appreciate the reply , sounds like drilling may be my only out , whats best to sacrifice the bumper or the front trunk lid,

      Ok so I just looked at my car. If I had to destroy something it would be the hood. You can’t really get to the latch thru the bumper that easily as the bolts that hood the latch assembly in are located in the frunk. So as you look at the hood draw a line straight down from the tip of the emblem about 2” long, I’ll call this the vertical line. Approximately 3/4” down the vertical line draw another line sideways, I’ll call this the horizontal line. You are basically making a cross. Now about 3/4” on the passengers side of the horizontal line place a mark. Place another mark about 1 1/2” on the drivers side of the horizontal line. So now you have 2 points on the horizontal line that are directly above the Phillips screws that hold on the hood latch. The screws are not equally spaced from the vertical line, they are offset slightly. Now break out a drill and go for it. I would attempt to drill the entire screw out. It won’t be fun but I think that would cause the least amount of damage. That being said, maybe someone else or the local dealer could shed some light on it for you. Please keep me posted. I hope it turns out well for you. By the way, hoods on eBay are around $300 but I think you could repair it fairly easily after drilling. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.

      Apparently theres a tool used to pop the hood ,like flat fingered two pronged Jack slides under .I was told that the u shaped lock mechanism has a sacrificial snapping point . Have you Heared similar

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  3 роки тому

      I have not. If you look at the gap between the hood and bumper you can see the red handle of the release lever but, that just releases the secondary mechanism once the solenoid pops the primary mechanism. If there is a tool, I would acquire it or take it to the dealership. Definitely would cost less than doing some body work. But.. at the prices Porsche dealers charge maybe it won’t ha ha.

      Look at a conversation I had with a guy named Gary Tyndall in the comments section. I think he went to Porsche dealer and they had some tool to get into it. If the battery is dead there is a way to energize the car thru the fuse box. I assume your trunk solenoid malfunctioned. Worse case scenario drill they the hood. I wouldn’t recommend it but it’s a worst case scenario. I outline in comment to the other guy where I would drill if that’s the direction you have to go. Sorry man. Keep us posted.

      Thanks for the reply. I agree that appears to be it. I did pull on mine, quite aggressively, but it didn’t release the hood. It’s bizarre as the cable isn’t attached to the latch mechanism. Maybe someone rerouted the cable before I purchased the car. One thing I will do is place the wheel lock socket in my glove box. If not, I’d never get the wheel off to attempt to open the hood. Thanks again.

      You can also jack the car up and turn the wheel to the far left. It’s tight but it should give you enough room to get to it without removing the tire. Assuming it’s not lowered
