    Thank you for this… the hood on my 2001 Boxster has been requiring more force than I think it should to close. I’m guessing the latch mechanism needs to be adjusted but have been procrastinating on it as I thought it might be a big PIA, now I know exactly what to do.

    I had this problem in my 2001 - hard to latch and release (although it would work eventually). Turned out to be that the latch was just misaligned, like yours.

    My '04 986 s just did the same thing... Soon as I get back home, I'll be adjusting mine. Thanks for the video, as usual, it's a great DIY vid. :) What sux is now I've gotta drive home using backroads, stay off the interstates, I just don't want to chance my hood flying up at 75mph.. I'll feel a lot safer at a top speed of 35mph.

    Thanks, very helpful. My 01 mechanism is not releasing the hood each time. I hear it working but it ain’t popping up. Needs some lubrication and adjusting. Taking the latch off the frunk was a great idea. Next time I get it open, that’s what I’m doing! 😂

    I'm thinking years of closing the hood has pushed the latch mechanism down slightly and what you did was raise it back up to the day it left the factory!

    Cool, I didn't know you could raise the latch. I had the same issue on my 997 and placed a flat pad of plumbers rubber (~1/8" thick) between the hood and the latch plate that you removed. Same result...you raised the latch, I lowered the latch plate (latch strike???).

      Is white lithium grease on the mechanism….or silicone WD-40 still something to use to lube the mechanism. It just looks like it is sluggish after initial release.

      @HelpMeDIY thank you
      I managed to open, in UK my emergency release was on passenger side - left.
      However, this didn't help, what helped was one person was pulling the release and I lifted jammed hood gently with flat screwdriver.
      No damage caused, mission accomplished
      Thank you for the video tip !
