Thanks for bringing us Shug. Enjoyed it! I also thank the trees. i have made it a part of my pack up, i go to each tree recheck for forgotten gear and thank each one for a good night rest.
Imagine the old days of yore. No maps. Just following game trails and land contours hoping that another lake was not too far away. Equipment was way heavier. No dehydrated foods or propane stoves. Cooking implements probably iron pots or cast iron skillets. Wood canoes! Even 40 years ago when I started going to the BWCA/Quetico with my father, our frame packs regularly weighed 60-80 pounds each and we were constantly in wet jeans or waterlogged leather boots. And an 80 pound aluminum canoes on the shoulders was a special bit of torture.😮 Life is good! Thanks for bringing us along!
They were way way tough. Had to be. We are a softer society and maybe lost a lot of our survival skills. Still what I like about camping. At least your are somewhat a little in touch with all that. We use to carry 50 or 60 pounds backpacking in the 1970s for a weekend trip!!!

Just wanted to say thanks Shug. You have me so much enjoyment over the years since coming across your videos, thinking who's this crazy guy? I have gone to appreciate how talented you are. I am thankful that you are still getting out in the wild. As a 70+ UK guy I am finding it hard sometimes to get motivated to get out hiking. Thanks once again for letting us share time with you and say God bless you and all your loved ones.
I have learned a lot from your videos in the past, wanted to say thanks! I have a big hammock hung over my bed and like to relax in it during the day and watch youtube or sleep in if its hot!
Very fun. Thanks for another great tag along video! Seems like you timed the trip well, before the big summer crowds but also getting a good taste of the summer sun and swimming. Got a bit of deja vu on your last few lakes -- I can still remember what it's like to be paddling into Tuscarora after a week's solo trip (which feels like much longer) and that bittersweet feeling of entering civilization again. This video series is inspiring me to look at a trip sometime after labor day this year, during the warmish days and cool/cold nights. Thank you Mr. Shug!! :) (p.s. I laughed at the end of video 2 "Why don't you act your age. What do you mean, cranky and closeminded? :) :D )

Surprised that the MacGyver paracord held up for the entire trip! Paracord is one of those things that you always bring with you no matter what, you never know what it can be used for. Too bad you couldn't do a camp fire though!
I thoroughly enjoyed all 3 parts of your canoe trip in the BWCA. This is some of the best UA-cam stuff going. I am not a musician but I did play on the linoleum when I was little. IMO some of the greatest bassists played with James Brown, but I am sure you have listened to all of those guys. Your Meg sounds like my wife. A backpack, good health and an awesome wife, what more could a man ask for? Now that's wealth.
Someone said to me once..."you sure make a lot of time for yourself." Well, no one gives you the gift of time. vYou must carve it out and use it wisely.
So cool. Tonight I get to sleep in my hammock out in the backyard watching over a sleepover my step daughter is having, thinking of my upcoming week-long canoe trip.

Shug, I've not only been with you since almost the beginning, but I joined the old Hammock Forums about a year or so after you did. I have always enjoyed all of your videos. Just wanted to say about those portages, what always impresses me is that the Native Americans, Voyagers, and trappers all had to find those paths, trails, and portages, or, make them from scratch. And I too talk to the trees. Apologizing if I have to remove some brush around the roots, and thanking them for a good hang.

Righto~~ Hoping to get back and do the Art Loeb again someday before I give out. Glad you got to do it.
Thanks for taking us along!
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
Will watch this a wee bit later in the day. As it's early, EARLY , here in Glasgow. Looking forward to it. Ian
EARLY
At 19:37 Hahahaha almost laughed (and almost woke my room buddy! I'm on a trip in a hotel, watching the rest of Shug!)
Haaa...that flat cherry!
For those about to rock. Shug. We salute you. Ian
Just a wee touch of the tune! Fun to play.
Awesome Video
U are a Ledend
Keep up the great job❤
Don't I need to be dead to be a legend? I am still walking!!! haaaaa
Man I been with you a good 4 or maybe 5 years. Love all your videos. Even think at times about that toy set you showed us. The Outer space guys. Or the line plane you fly. Your videos been a true blessing to me over the years. Thanks for that brother. Thanks for letting us be there with you in some small part. Go's bless
Maybe longer than that! My old Major Matt Mason set. Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
hi shug, i just arrived in japan yesterday, and once i touched down i rememberd that you have been telling us about pocari Sweat. of course i bought a bottle of that stuff... oh it's delicious. thanks for the tip :D
I order packets of Pocari Sweat...still love that taste. Enjoy your time there. Always enjoyed myself there.
This is 1989 in Yokohama at YES '89 Exotic Showcase Festival. We loved the gig.
Thank you for sharing your adventure! Looking forward to your next video. Cheers!
Thankee.
Eine grandiose Geschichte. Danke das du sie mit uns geteilt hast.
Danke.
Great video Cuz and great to see you again .
Thankee Cuz.
Killin' it on the bass, Shug! Loved this series, I gotta get out to that BWCA some day!
Thankee for that. I'm working that bass a lot...unless out on a trip. Truly enjoying bass playing.
Thankee. Not always easy to make yourself get out there. Having a You Tube channel helps as folks ask me when I'm going again. Hope you get out soon.
I have learned a lot from your videos in the past, wanted to say thanks! I have a big hammock hung over my bed and like to relax in it during the day and watch youtube or sleep in if its hot!
Thankee for the right good words. Life is about learning what gets us going.
Excellent trip, Shug. Time to get the Maple King out there and see if he floats like a leaf on the water!
Oh..he floats but his head is an anchor.
Get that permit and make it happen. You will not regret it. Life passes by too quickly. We had a friend have a heart attack and pass away on the 4th of July. Her husband had a stroke last year. They are my same age. Live now as we never know how much time we have.
A lot of guys my age are cranky and close minded. I try to keep my mind open about 3/4 of the way.
@@shugemery too true, nobody knows what the future holds! (I try to keep my mind a little closed, otherwise it spills out my ears :) )
Really enjoying these “Series” type posts, sir.
Thanks and thankee.
Surprised that the MacGyver paracord held up for the entire trip! Paracord is one of those things that you always bring with you no matter what, you never know what it can be used for. Too bad you couldn't do a camp fire though!
I rarely do a fire when I camp alone. I'm lazy. Fires are a social thing to me.
@@shugemery sometimes I do fires to chase away skeeters...I may have to look into a Thermacell, just too darn dry out there
Lando starting second on the grid at his home Grand Prix is pretty cool.
Thrilling Quali for me!! Piastri P3. Whooooooooo Buddy))0 I flew my McClaren control line plane this morning as I had a feeling.....flic.kr/p/2nKrF9r
Whoa! The exciting rainy conclusion!! Glad you didn't end up in Kansas with all that wind Dorothy! 😂😂
Now had it blown me to NC....I'd be OK with that!
Thump, twack , and plunk away my friend
Thump, twack , and plunk away daily here. My happy place these days.
Shug, we are thankful for you and your lighthearted outlook on life. Keep on Trekking!
Thanks and thankee.
Thank you Shug for making these video and posting them for us to watch.
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
Good stuff Shug, thanks man.
Y'elcome and thankee.
Thankee. What key did you play the linoleum in?? haaaa
Thanks for all the good words.
Very near the end. Shug always the performer. LOL!!
My calling card is show-off.....
Great series. Good hanging with ya. Loving the new music!
Thanks and thankee~~
Thank you for sharing your adventures. I am glade you can find the time and energy to share we us. Beautiful place to be.
Someone said to me once..."you sure make a lot of time for yourself." Well, no one gives you the gift of time. vYou must carve it out and use it wisely.
So thankful for you Shug! Absolutely love the videos and feel lucky to watch your adventures!
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
I can't thank you enough for helping introduce to me new after dinner desserts.
Happy to show the sweeties~~
I'm Thankful, that the trees are thankful, that you're thankful for being able to talk to them about Pitching your Tarp ....
Early! Great Trip , Atb.
Thankfulness empowers us. NOT LATE~~~
So cool. Tonight I get to sleep in my hammock out in the backyard watching over a sleepover my step daughter is having, thinking of my upcoming week-long canoe trip.
Hope it went well. Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
@shugemery four 9 year old girls were up all night and up at the crack of dawn. I slept like a baby with no tarp. Hehe. Coffee isn't from the hammock this morning. One week until our 30 mile backpacking trip!
I also do the same thing wondering about the history of trails/campsites in older parks. Such a cool thought to ponder on. Great vid as always :-)
Ponder time is good time.
Really like the video series!! You do the trips I day dream about
Thankee! Make the Dream happen and go there and do a trip. Very worth it.
That canoe thing looks fun! Makes me wish we had a lake system in Southern Idaho....but we do have the Sawtooths! 😂
It is. You don't have something on your back all day!
Thanks for taking us on the trip! Love the videos!
Thankee and Whoooo Buddy))))
Thank you Shug for taking us along with you on the wet and wild but also beautiful trip.
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
That was a fun video. The rain, the bugs, the mud. You made it through everything and had a good time. I applaud your senior fortitude. I'm 69 and you are always encouraging, thanks.
"Senior Fortitude". My new hip-hop name.
Amazing video shug. Yeah!!!!!🏕️
Whoooooo Buddy))))
This series was a blast as always with you, thanks for taking us along.
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
yes'm - that was a beautiful week - but of course anything with hammock and canoe has to be beautiful. I love rain on a tarp! but not wind blowing the rain straight thru the setup - nosiree, nosiree. thanks Shug great series. I think August the 3rd week if'n I can get it all scheduled out, gonna get me some of that hammock and canoe time up there in the north woods of minniesoda. yes sir, I think this old man can do it. 😁👍👍

@@shugemery so true - got it planned, now just hoping nothing gets in the way as it sometimes does 🙂
Shug, I've not only been with you since almost the beginning, but I joined the old Hammock Forums about a year or so after you did.
Truly...someone had to be first. look for the low trees and horizon and head there.....Thankee and Whoooo Buddy))))
