Does your buddy who designed the molding apparatus for keys sell it online? I would love one of those but couldn't find anything linked (I might be dumb)
Great video! I was wondering what pressure pot you use and what psi you get to? A quick google search said resin casting at around 60psi but I'm having a hard time finding an affordable+safe pot that advertises above 60 to be safe...
We're not sure what specific pressure pot Rathcaps uses but we typically recommend checking out California Air Tools - www.californiaairtools.com/air-tools-accessories/pressure-pots/!!
most of the resine behave good between 45 to 60. Just make sure you have the correct pot that support 50 to 80. just to be safe. I just got my pot i'm making my tests
Would I be able to paint on 1 already cured resin with acrylic paint? or do I have to sand it down a bit to have a rough surface to paint on? It seems a bit hard to paint it by dropping paint with a needle in the video. Thank you for sharing this tutorial.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, does the pressure pot help cure the resin faster or is it just very fast curing resin? I'm new to the resin world and I hadn't found any clear ones that cure faster than 24hrs+. Great video by the way, thank you!
There are no stupid questions when you're learning! A pressure pot doesn't help it cure faster - it actually creates so much pressure that it stomps out all of the air bubbles that are in your resin. Most of the time urethane resins will recommend using a pressure pot, whereas epoxies don't need it. Check out this video explaining what a pressure pot and vacuum chamber do: ua-cam.com/video/bpqh3vNEsMs/v-deo.html
This is a great question! For the mold itself, you'll want to use silicone because it will pick up all of the details much more clearly. But for the original keycap that you're using as a master, you can use any sort of clay as long as it doesn't contain ingredients that would inhibit your silicone cure. To play it safe (if you're not sure what ingredients are in your clay) you can use a tin cure silicone like our High Strength line instead of our platinum cure silicone that you see in the video.
Hello there! All the information from the video is in the description (other products used etc.). The mold product is Plat 40: www.alumilite.com/silicones/plat-40-silicone-rubber/
@@AlumiliteCorporation Thank you for answering me, but my question is about the gray mold you placed the piece on before applying the silicone. This gray mold, I want to know where to buy.
Hey there! Thanks for watching. Yes, you definitely can. If you mix slowly and pour slowly, as well as use a heat gun, torch, or even lighter to pop any bubbles that surface, you should get a smooth casting with minimal bubbles.
Also, when mixing your resin and putting it in the stem, place your cup of resin in a hot water bath and let the heat thin it out. Bubbles can escape thin resin much easier.
pleease offer some of your casting/resin products in Canada Ontario. Either I gotta eat the large shipping fee, or buy from your main competitor as a substitute! however I really love these caps vids, using these as reference now.

I'd love to try this. Does your friend make those back of caps for other people?
Rath is the man!
You got that right!

Yes you can paint after it's cured! Sanding it lightly will help the paint stick@
I have seen other people 3d print the sculpt insted of clay.
Does this work and how does it compare to clay?
hi, how hard is the 80d? if i push some area hard enough or bend it, is solid or will it deform?

No bro thank you for sharing ur knowledge!
Cool, make some more key caps ✌🏻💙
That's the goal! Along with every other cool thing we want to make.
Can i use air dry clay or plastisine clay to make the mold?

What kind of clay do you use for the initial sculpt?
We really like Sculpey clay and even sell some on our site!! You can find them here: www.alumilite.com/accessories/sculpey-1-75lbs/
What is this mold name and where can I buy it?

Your work is great
I am interested in creating some.
I have a question, can I make a keycap resin without air bubbles? If not using a pressure tank

Only if you could put LEDs in the eyes .
That's an awesome idea!
if the keyboard is backlit you could totally do that! maybe do clear resin for the eyes and of the backing part so it shines through!
Great video, but your scale might be a little off even with tarring it. you might have some resin underneath too XD
Thanks for watching!
1:52 who's the buddy who designs the butt? does he do most of every maker's butt in the hobby? :o

Where can i buy the internal and stem??? I live in korea
A lot of artisan keycap artists 3D print their own but you should be able to find molds online!!
@@AlumiliteCorporation what do i have to put on the search bar to find it online? What do you call it?
