    Perhaps get your Mum or Dad to talk about how they dealt with your disability because they did an awesome job.

      You could always just have an off camera conversation, get some quotes or something and then go through what they said? Also you don't look sick at all, you look good :) x

    I was born without a left hand and I would definitely agree with you that your parents and people around you have major influence on how you perceive yourself. I think I was very lucky to have parents like yours who didn't treat me any different than my brother and left me to figure out how to do things my own way. I've never owned a prosthetic and when I was a kid I didn't feel different and sometimes forgot that I had one hand. However, while I was growing up, I grew more self-conscious about it and many strange looks from people and comments got to me. Up until recently (I am now 24) I would wear long sleeves and try to hide that I had no hand.
    I think that where you live also has an impact on you. I live in a very small country that many people have never even heard of, Serbia, and people here don't exactly celebrate the differences, to say the least. But lately I've been trying to be more confident since I can't really change who I am and this summer I even wore shirt with no sleeves. Your videos definitely helped. Thank you for being a great representation and talking about topics like these openly.

      I was also born with one hand. My folks ignored it &7 did not give me any slack because of it. I don't worry about it. I'm glad you are becoming comfortable!

    I did get bullied quite badly, but I'm really glad you didn't get bullied because you are an amazing person, and it doesn't matter that you don't have one hand because we are all human and we shouldn't be embarrassed about who we are. Love you lots, Rachel ❤

    I was also born missing my arm just above my elbow and it’s been a little tough bc I’ve moved around a lot and had to restart and make new friends quite a bit but I never hid my amputation and that helped me be more confident I just started high school and I was really nervous bc I was going to a new school where I knew no one bc I had just moved I kept thinking I would get bullied but I haven’t so far it’s been good I do constantly get asked by other students and teachers if I need help with certain things which annoys me bc I’m perfectly capable of doing simple tasks like tying my shoes I play hockey as well and I always get asked how I play with one arm and I never know how to answer bc it’s always been that way I’ve never had another arm I always joke around with family and friends about how my hand is full even if I’m just carrying one thing
    If you actually read all that I’m impressed bc it’s pretty boring 😂

    I think that saying that you didn't get bullied because you were confident about your one hand is a bit ignorant to say because I was very confident until I started getting bullied (not about a disability, about everything from being fat to smart to having zits). You kind of retracted it by speaking about your sister but it's important to acknowledge that while it's amazing that you've had the upbringing you did and your family are as amazing as they are, you could have still been bullied and it's a good thing you didn't, but it's mainly down to luck that most people you were around were not, well, assholes. You are truly an inspiration and your confidence and optimism shine but as you made clear in the video you were lucky to be in the position you were growing up but not everyone, disabled or not, may have that situation.

    I was born with a congenital malformation to my left arm and have never felt different or been bullied. I 100% agree when you say it all depends on your parents and how the brought you up because they always encouraged me to do everything and never left me make excuses "oh I have half an arm". Instead they gave me the confidence which made me feel normal.

    Hi Grace,
    I have mild CP and vision impairment and I soooo wish I had your confidence!! I don't hide my CP I just sometimes get discouraged especially with driving. I value that I am able to drive but it makes me feel like a burden when I need a lift at night cause I can only day drive. When I was younger my glasses and leg braces were targets for bullying. I have a few close friends I lost some because they "felt sorry for me" which is why trusting is tough. I love yours and Amelia's videos. Thanks for sharing. Love from America. xx

    This is very interesting as I've been thinking about this recently as we got new science classes for Year 11 and I got put with a boy who bullied me in Year 8 and still hates me now. Even before I got Raynaud's disease (if you don't know what it is it is quite a minor circulatory disease thing) I still got bullied but I'm the most average, normal person so I don't know why I got bullied but after I got the disease, I didn't even hide it but people whispered about it as it's noticeable in Winter as my hands change colour so they are purple when I'm outside and red when I'm inside and people make comments and think I'll infect them so they avoid me despite me saying that it isn't contagious but I don't really care what they think much anymore because it's my hands and I think it's quite interesting and I like that it's different and not too common. Also, I had an interesting conversation with my friend today as she's 5 foot tall and I'm 5 foot 7 and it's sad how we both feel that our heights are unattractive and how people comment on them but we're both learning to enjoy our heights. Thank you for making this video, it's really interesting and it's nice to hear your view on it.

      awh I'm sorry to hear people have treated you like that:( thought I'd let you know, I also have raynauds! tbh my mindset about it is that we're unique for having colour changing hands, like come on, not many people do. I like to tell people before they pick up on it, for example if it's cold I'll be like "here we go again, they're purple today" lol
      hope I've made you feel better in any way, and remember those bullies aren't worth it!

    • @LottieManning

      @@elishawilliams9263 thank you so much, this makes me feel much better, I like to think of us like chameleons but I don't like it because I often feel quite alone with it so this makes me feel better so thank you so much.

    • @elishawilliams9263
      @elishawilliams9263 6 років тому +2

      Not Any Experience yes!! we are exactly like chameleons! Reynauds is actually pretty common, I think some people are better at disguising it (even tho we have nothing to hide). I find keeping my hands as warm as possible helps a lot, like I'll clench them/rub them together, or in winter I'll double up on gloves. but most importantly embrace it!

    • @LottieManning
      @LottieManning 6 років тому +3

      @@elishawilliams9263 yes, I know a few people who have it but most are kind of distant relatives, just googled it and 20% of adults have it and there's probably many common diseases like it that most people don't know about so don't get diagnosed, it's kind of sad, I think more people should be educated on these diseases so they can be helped and feel less weird and alone.

    • @isabelle2667

      I'm sorry that you were bullied and I hope everything is ok now. I have Raynauds too. My hands will freeze and go white and numb and in a minute, they will start burning and go bright red and then I am a human radiator. I just wished gloves were better for it( I wear two thick pairs together and it doesn't help). Hopefully everything goes alright in the science class ( my friends bullied me and hid my stuff in the shower etc but I sorted it out eventually and I am now friends with them (for some reason!!) but hopefully everything will be okay) :)

    This is really interesting. People often ask me whether I got bullied because I was in care (which is quite common tbh) but I didn’t because I didn’t try to hide it, I wasn’t ashamed of it, and everyone just knew that that’s what life was like for me. It probably also helped that I went to quite a small village school where everyone knew each other but I do feel like that could’ve been used against me.

    Fantastic video :) I have some scars from an accident so I can relate totally. I was bullied a bit unfortunately. Occasionally I fought back.
    It reminds me of the movie Ray in which Ray Charles' mother wouldn't feel sorry for him or treat him any different. She told him he had better learn to get along in the world with his blindness and because he treated it like it wasn't a thing, people didnt treat him any different.
