There's something to be said regarding technique in 'playing' the typewriter without jamming it. I practiced about 60 yrs ago. One needs long strong fingers, which I don't have. Was happy when keyboards were developed.😎

I heard this played outdoors while on a lunch break by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The musician who played the typewriter was from the percussion section of the orchestra and usually played the kettledrums.

Yes, percussionists have to be very adaptable. They play many different instruments, depending on composers' sometimes very strange ideas

Yeah skilled percussionist. His rhythm was absolutely perfect and controlled on the fast bits.
I have seen a London orchestra do this and apparently it was the glockenspiel/xylophone player who did this. But hard to say what these guys actually play, because they are usually skilled at a ton of different instruments.
And usually very skilled at not playing but coming in just on time (counting rests). That can be even more difficult!

I was a typist and was so impressed with this when training and we trained to music. When we could get up to the " William Tell Overture " our tutor would say that we were ready to be typists. That is if we had copied the words correctly we were on our way to being copy typists.

Do you always alternate fingers, or do you sometimes repeat them in certain "rudiments"?
For example, would you play "fjf-jfj-fjf-j-f" for the first phrase or "fjf-fjf-fjf-j-f"?

He very much influenced me. I compose instrumentals for pop guitar, and because of him I have composed, "Red-Headed Woodpecker" which is accompanied by woodblock as a supporting instrument, also "Ratonera"(Mousetrap), a tune inspired by the Fireballs(from Raton, New Mexico), also incorporates a woodblock. Others... "Switchback", "Lost Expedition", and "Snake-bit", which has accompaniment of maracas at certain junctures. I owe Mr. Anderson a debt of gratitude.

Before Personal Computers, I liked to type all my papers by myself and so I become a "touch typist" on the Lettera 22 and later, on the Selectric.
I listened to Mozart when typing, and on few occasions the EOL bell played a fortunate note along with the music; but the piece above is on a totally different level.
Congratulations to whoever had the idea to combine harmonically the sounds of a typewriter and those of an orchestra...
