as someone who's been making skins since 5th grade, 7 years ago, I've been both custom made skins and I'm proud of myself for it.
I made the cat wizard woman from the Prequel Adventure webcomic from scratch, in every major outfit she's worn (four skins total). I'm thinking about making one or two for Mae Borowski from Night in the Woods too. I relate heavily to both characters and also think they're cute as hell so it's fun for me to get to run around as them in Minecraft.

I have a custom-made skin and ngl, I absolutely adore it. I changed its coat color and added a golden belt to the design yesterday and now it looks much more lively than it did before.
the original design was kinda meh. i was trying to follow the design of my cryptidsona too closely. tried to color the arms like its wings and add its floating gloves at the end of them, the outfit was the same, the pink head with one eye was just that... although i do like the transparecy i used to separate the head from the neck and make the bird legs.
but then last week, i decided to completely overhaul the design. drew a bunch of concepts and then developed one of them. completely changed the outfit, changed the head to be a mask with a bit of skin showing where the eye is, which makes the fact that it now has no arms and only floating gloves much stranger. at first, i had it wear a dark brown coat, but it looked too boring from the back and mixed in with the brown hair, so I edited it to a light red/dark pink and added a golden belt. i played with layers _hard_ here. kinda wish there were three to separate the coat from the pants. i just didn't want to paint over the bird legs :(
hmmmm but it _could_ look better... could even add textures on top of the pants... make it bunch up at the ends...
sorry i'm just gushing and brainstorming at this point. i'm just really proud of how it looks.

edit: i changed it, its now a frankenstein of diferent skins types (derp, gamer, block texture, popular guy) i literally got 4 different skins, put them together, removed some parts, edited the shirt and the gamer hoodie and its now basically a monster lol

My skins are usually semi-custom made. I like to combine premade parts and recolour parts of them, add new elements, etc. to create variants that look a certain way.

My skin isn’t one specifically listed. Technically it is a custom skin, but it isn’t bad and yet no one is in awe over it. It is average. I found what I thought looked like a cool mage skin someone made, altered the colors from blue to red. The head was the only thing I did myself, which I accidentally made my character bald, which you can only see if o remove the hat/hood.

There are skin makers that have a shading setting that help me a lot with texturing. I can't remember what the one I use it called but try looking up custom skin maker or something along those lines
I personally didn't add shading to mine because I am a boomer who wants to preserve the old days (it's not an excuse I swear)

It's true though, everyone in MC servers targets the Dream skins aggressively even when they are being normal..
Kinda hurts as a Dream fan myself but I use a custom skin I made so I'm good.
Also I've seen more Techno skins than Dream skins believe it or not.. Probably because people are scared to use a Dream skin.

Actually I bought all the skin packs back in the 360 edition of Minecraft, there were no online skins. It has carried across everything I still have access to all of them. It’s very nostalgic❤️

I bought a skin pack on PS3 for 1 skin. It saved to PS4 and into Bedrock.
Though Bedrock seem to be very angry that I’m using a skin from the PlayStation Store and not from the Bedrock store. As it’s pretty buggy to fiddle with my skins.

There’s lots of servers but it depends if you have bedrock or Java edition, if bedrock then try all of the recommended servers they give you, if Java then not sure

I just took the basic minecraft warrior skin, edited the colours, added a sword and a beard. So kind of custom made, but not really great. But also not bad either.
I took the Nether Tamer skin and changed the hair color because I liked the skin.
took some lil kids skin and changed its skin rainbow bc I wanted to ruin the kids day B)

i use a blue and black neon skin so like blue RGB if we can say that just to make people scared on servers cuz some absolute tryhards and hit selecters use these types of skins
