- Join me on my 500km journey to the far Northwest of Vietnam, as I follow the footsteps of the Viet Minh all the way to Dien Bien Phu.
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu stands as a watershed moment in the First Indochina War, where French colonial forces clashed with the Viet Minh in a remote valley in northwestern Vietnam. This pivotal engagement, waged from March to May 1954, marked a culmination of tensions between colonial powers and nationalist movements in Southeast Asia.

I really like your sentences:
" The Japanese, the Chinese, the French, the Americans... none of them could seize this country ...this small country.
From ancient times to present day, Vietnam's enduring resistance serves as a powerful reminder that the human spirit is capable of overcoming even the most formidable challenges when fueled by courage perseverance and a deep rooted love for freedom"
I'm Vietnamese, I wish you all the best!

Another great journey mate! 6 yrs ago I read the book "Saigon" based from 1925-1975, fictional characters but based on fact. Dien Bien Phu, stands out clearly in my mind from that book....The whole book just blew my mind like 😮....Epic struggle, much respect Vietnam....My wife's proud of their courage and strength, and the people always smiling and friendly 🇻🇳🌿😎😃🌅
After the controversies of Bald and Bankrupt, its refreshing to see another travel youtuber that does similar content but feels more wholesome.
I always got bad vibes from Bald and Bankrupt. He seemed rude to me
What were the controversies?
@@eklypised Bald aka Benjamin Rich is a s3x tourist, takes advantage of foreign women especially the impoverished village types
@@eklypisedthese are sheeple listening to nonsense from other UA-camrs 😂
Love from Nagaland...
Love from Indonesia. Been binging your videos for quite a while and I absolutely love them. I like your openness (while still maintaining your values and sense of humour) and friendliness, also the fact that you learned some basic conversations from their languages. It's refreshing to see someone who not only explores beyond the typical tourist spots but also makes an effort to connect with the people and understand their culture. Your content always makes my day!
Your videos are some of the best content ive seen on SEA / India.. Have been to Thailand 4 times, and the way you interact with people has changed how I want to interact with people on my next trips out there! Keep up the good vibes and living life to the fullest! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks so much!! Just went back and watched some of this video again after reading your comment. Damn I love Vietnam. Got one you’ll love coming next week 💪🏻
@@mikeokay epic.. literally binge watched your entire library.. honestly so glad I found your content.. brings me back to when I’m riding through the jungles of Pai and Northern Thailand or Indo.. keep it going ! 🔥 had been watching @lostleblanc for years (which got me interested in SEA but your way of travel has an amazing human connection component to it that is vastly overlooked and underrated in travel.
Another great video, thanks!! I worked in Nghi Son for 6 months and loved every minute. Beautiful people made a lot of friends, now working in Jiangyin, China, missing Vietnam and 😢 cheep beer.
Your choice of Vietnamese music is excellent.👌I’ve been enjoying going on an adventure with you.💛
holy moly Diem Bien Vu is crazy! I just watched some historic videos, I've never seen it what it looks like today. Love all your videos, keep it up mate
Dien Bien Phu is 400km from Hanoi by road, along the road there are many memorial monuments of victories and struggles on the National Road 6 during the war. Beautiful scenery and very friendly ethnic people
Hello Mike,
I first came across you through the China Journey Vlog, but I later found out that you had been to Vietnam before that. Out of the millions of vloggers and videos about Vietnam, your real, heartfelt road trip stories across different countries, including my proud homeland, truly impressed me. Thank you so much for your inspiration and kind words about our history, especially the global victory over invaders.
You are always welcome in Vietnam, and if you're ever in Ho Chi Minh City, let me know so we can meet up. Cheers, and take care, bro!
Hey! Sorry for the late response!! I loved reading this comment. I have a deep deep love for Vietnam. I’m proud that I made you, as Vietnamese person, happy by making it ❤️
@@mikeokay gud to see your rep, Mike and gud luck to your journey.🤞 See ya in Vietnam one day! ✌👍

I randomly found your China hitchhiking videos, and now I am in need to watch all of your content! Your videos remind me of my own random hitchhiking around Denmark with my brother. Just without the language barrier :D Keep making content! All the love from Finland!
Great stuff Mike . Been binge watching all your Videos. You have a pipe of Dope with locals. Wild .
I've been to Vietnam, love its beautiful nature and yummy food. And I totally agree with you, Vietnamese are the most resilient and brave people, they fight fiercely for their freedom and never surrender to any superpowers. I visited Củ Chi tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City, which is another stunning evidence, it shows how the Viet Cong finally defeated the American army against all odds. You are a true adventurist who dives into opposite cultures without reservation, thanks for sharing your journeys!
Thanks Mike, I really enjoyed watching your travels through Nth Vietnam.
Glad to see more people are finding this video after your recent success with your China videos. I am also just finding these videos from your China videos, and I am glad. These are great videos.
Loving your channel brother, seeing you interacting with the locals and feeling the true culture of these places is fascinating to watch... got a new sub! keep up the great content!

Hans Johnson - Great Sea

Oh man I love Pho! It is one of the best soups ever. It is an adventure of many different flavors all in one soup. It takes takes quite a bit of time and effort to make. We have a lot of Pho restaurants in Denver, Colorado. I think it’s also Vietnam’s national dish.
and the Vietnamese love hamburgers
As a Vietnamese who loves western culture, It's so funny and refreshing to see it from your perspective. It's also so lovely to see you and local people interact so respectfully to each other

Great video again Mike, biker here…did you buy the bike beforehand or hire it? Did you have chargers attached to the bike and phone etc
I hired it in Hanoi for about £15 a day. No chargers but I had a power bank and would charge my phone in guest houses along the way!!

You really smoked a lot of ... I don't want to say ganja ... in that trip. Love your vids. Come visit my country, South Africa, at some stage; if you have not already done so.
Nicotiana rustica--it is much more potent nicotine containing plant from the same genus as standard tobacco (which is nicotiana tabacum). Despite being a non-smoker these days, this is still on my bucket list!
I love how everybody smokes and wants to smoke with you that's awesome. They should legalize weed for their people I bet they would love it
As your smoking there laffing ! It will hit you in about half an hour ? 😂🤪☠️✌️
We Naga miss you bro Mike
