glad to hear there is improvement from the previous turtle figures they've done. This is the first set of figures i've purchased from TLS so in that context, overall these are pretty neat. especially because they are the IDW versions. I wasn't overly impressed by the quality, in terms of what i'd expect from action figures in 2023, but seeing as they are wanting to constantly improve, I'd imagine we'll be seeing better things from them. My main QC issues derive from the functionality of the figure design and choice of material used for certain things.
1. anyone planning to buy these, some of the problems I've had are the the hinge joint on the upper bicep connecting into the butterfly/shoulder is tight and the male pieces of the butterfly piece adhering to inside of the figure are too shallow, so with that combination, when trying to bend his upper arm, the entire arm comes out for my Leo.
2. Be careful with Leo's scabbards - the scabbard on top looks like it's just glued on and any pressure on it will make it snap off.
3. Be careful when placing Leo's katanas in his hands. the katanas are very hard plastic, making them fragile. and the hands are very hard as well and don't allow the katanas to go in easily. be careful where you put the pressure because you can snap the katana at the base of the hilt.

I concur with OP. The sculpting is great. They keep on that they are good. The quality of the plastics and the joints especially at the double elbow. That needs to be made of a more tough plastic that is durable for constant moving since we all
Like to fuss around and pose our figures. Some of the paint apps need to be checked over as they make some mistakes and leave stains on parts. I also feel like the neck and head joint needs to be better so you can move the head better. It’s not like these are cheap figs. $20. They can do better. I hope they fix these issues because I can see the potential they have as a company. Plus if they can bring that price down a dollar or two.
Man that Ralph looks great but once I realized the eye was misprinted on both heads my heart sank

The additional weapon with Mikey is the “Kusarigama chain”, the additional weapon with Raph are called “Tonfa”, and the additional weapons with Leo are called the “Tanto” and “Wakizashi” 👍🏾

These are actually my current favorite true 6in scale articulated TMNT. Think they fit in perfect with other great 6in lines. Other companies were either too tall or too cartoonish, or stylized.
I agree, in regards to scale, they work best with 6 inch lines.
Man theres so many unique versions of characters and new ones in the idw run... im really hoping they can do this iteration justice
That Ralph's eye is not placed right. They printed onto the mask wrong. Got to be careful with that quality control.
Aside from the PS4 game, I am not familiar with the IDW turtles. The unique designs for each turtle interest me.
BST AXN making turtles figures that NECA, and Playmates is ignoring is a good idea. Their prices have always been reasonable, but when given a choice between NECA and BST AXN versions, I go with NECA. I may give the figures a wash myself. If they release more IDW characters(Slash, Bebop, Rocksteady, footsoldiers) I may be interested in collecting these.
yeah man! I didn't notice the imperfection on the eye while filming the review. I think I can touch it up though.
With some blue tacky you can use Mikey’s finger point hand to recreate the spin trick scene from the 90s movie!
6:52 i believe those are where the nunchucks are supposed to be stored in the comics, but the nunchucks are so big they had to put the holsters in the back.

One of the swords is called Tanto, the other is called Wakizashi, and the one with Mikey is the Kusarigama

Thanks!!! Yeah man, they’re nice figures but they are far from perfect. I think the thing that bothers me the most is how tight some of the joints are but aside from that (and the gripes I mentioned in the video) I’m happy with them!
They look great but man it's disappoint to see that all the close-ups of the heads show paint app QC issues. From far in a display it's fine but I'd definitely notice it when removing them from their packaging.
Oh i also think the standard release of these are going to look great.. mikey seems to translate a lot better color wise at least from the images i seen
I might end up getting the retail ones too. I like the wash on these but it would be fun to get the other ones and experiment on them a bit.

The loyal subjects Krang Suit is actually pretty nice. Nice details, nice materials, and great accessories. Sadly some of the other designs feel too generic, specially "the Cartoon Style" turtles like the one you have. They have great ideas like selling Bebop and Rocksteady with a Human Head as a pre mutation form or slash with some nice accessories.
Yeah, the IDW style looks like their best work out of everything they made.

I’m VERY conflicted on this set. I absolutely love the IDW Ninja Turtles and I think they’re the best version ever of the Turtles and their universe (yes, even better than OG Mirage or Last Ronin). And I also think that the paint work on these figures is great! However, I can’t stand Loyal Subjects’ (IMO) dumb 5-inch scale. In theory it should work for the Turtles since they’re supposed to be smaller than adult humans, but the proportions absolutely give away that these are 5-inch figures as opposed to intentionally short 6-inch figures. I also think that this articulation is not only some of the ugliest I’ve ever seen, but it’s also not even all that functional. Overall I genuinely think these are pretty mediocre figures but I still want them because of my affinity for the source material

I have the '87 Turtles from Loyal Subjects and considering they cost half what a NECA figure would and probably a third of a Super 7 figure, they're basically fine if you're on a budget and just want a set of the four turtles. The articulation isn't great but it's good enough, there's a good spread of accessories even if some of them are a bit gummy and don't fit the figures hands well.
So yeah, IF you just want the four Turtles and there's absolutely no chance you can afford a better set... these will do. They'll look good enough alongside your Marvel Legends, DCUC or Black Series figures. But as soon as you want to go beyond the four turtles, forget it. All the humanoid characters are THE SAME SIZE as the Turtles, even ones like Shredder who should be 2 feet taller. So at that point the whole scale thing falls apart. The NECA Shredder would scale okay with these, but there's such a visible difference in quality between TLS and NECA that you couldn't really put them together. Plus if you can afford NECA figures, you should probably just buy those in the first place.

The exclusives look good but the regular ones, in my opinion, are not that cool. Mikey's color is to hate it or love it haha they can be improved in the articulation but the look is not bad
I enjoyed the size comparisons and the pic with the moon in the back was awesome!
The Raph and Sai pose he does in the IDW comics is a must, they are big and goofy but in his hand where he palms them just looks so good!! Gotta warm up the hands though.
Just got these and they are even more gorgeous in hand aaaand they pose like crazy! The wash is a must on these.
Hopefully we get Shredder, Loner Raph, and the Deviations version. It would knock it out of the park beyond belief!!

I am finding very difficult to fit the Sai in the extra gripping hands. Is there a trick or special instruction?
@garousoul1885 hot water should do the trick. I put them in hot water for about 10 seconds. Should be pretty bendable then. It still take some pressure but should work.
Got these in the other day and they’re fine. I like them overall but they’re not quite as good as a lot of reviewers have been saying they are imo.
I get that’s it’s exciting to finally have IDW turtles in figure form but things like the heavy and inconsistent paint job (heavier wash on some, missing paint in areas, etc) inconsistent joints tolerances (the shoulders are super tight and I’ve found stress marks and chewed up plastic on them from posing and using the butterflies and one or both of the legs tend to be floppy) and inconsistencies in the articulation (double jointed arms and legs but no neck hinge is crazy) hold this set of figures back from being truly amazing.
There’s a lot to love about them but I’d argue there’s just as much annoying-bad things here too.
For me a big part of why I was hyped about these was the signs of improvement. These figures are far from perfect but there is a lot to enjoy. I agree with a lot of what you mentioned but overall buying, playing and reviewing these figures has been a positive experience, loyal subjects still has a long way to go but they are headed in the right direction. I hope I was clear in my review. In the “overall..at the end of the day…” section I tried to be a clear as possible- cool figures, some problems, lot of potential

For me, I just don’t think the potential for the line elevates these figures from good to great. I’m judging them based off what we have more so than what we might get if that makes sense
Bro why no one still put out decent tmnt 2012 figures like I've got the 3 inch ones they're not it and it's impossible to get the revolted ones so why they being ignored???
My only nitpick is Mikey is too bright. Other than that, THIS is what a live action Ninja Turtles should look like.
Appreciate the in-depth look! I didn’t make SDCC but I did order the standard release versions of these guys. I’ll miss out on some of the paint wash but I still think I’ll enjoy the figures either way. Nice video here!
Buy some black shoe polish for $5 and do it yourself. Much cheaper than these figures.

My only gripe is mikeys color. I wish he was more green. He kind of really sticks out between them. If he was maybe more green and only slightly blueish it would look better to me. I love them tho don't get me wrong. Just wish he had a different color scheme

man these figures are beautiful such a shame they can't release these properly painted versions at retail.
They seem pretty cool, with so many different versions of these characters every fan can find something they like. However, I ABSOLUTELY dislike the drastically different color on Michaelangelo 😢 it just doesn’t make sense to me.
Overall a nice set though. 🐢 💥💪🏽

if you look at the old one, it looks like they took a 3D scan of the SHF turtles and just made them smaller. all the sculpt were nearly identical. glad they moved away from that.

Raphs eyes were messed up. He looks like the one character from goonies that kept yelling "Baby Ruth!" I hope my pre-ordered Raph doesnt have that type of quality issue.

I love them but I just think Mikey is a tad too bright, works in the comic but as a set he stands out way too much for me. Still will grab these though, might get the black and white ones.

You can’t really compare the two. One set is clearly now cartoonish. Also they have elbow pads which hinder articulation whereas the others don’t.
Bummer Loyal Subjects didn't put the same effort on their Buffy figs. Because both the Buffy & Angel figs they made looks whack.
The figures are cheaply made. I purchased the box sets of the comic style. Two turtles and two foot soldiers in one box and the other two turtles with shredder and a “leader for soldier” in the other. But right out the box the arm joint snapped on the foot soldier. All the other figures are super delicate and the joints are tight. I’m afraid to pose any of them.
I don’t think they are cheaply made but I do think they need to fix the joints. I agree that some of the joints are waaay to tight.

I prefer the retail non-black washed versions. The black wash in these are so spotty and random. Really sloppy. Just one look at Mikey’s snout.

Ok I saw Leo and preorder him as soon as I could. Then I learned it was by that company and it scared me. I also have that raph and he seemed cheap and can't hold his weapons. Lost them they felt flimsy.

The wash is a bit too much IMO. Reminds me of customs where people go way too heavy on the dark wash

I wish Mikey’s skin color wasn’t that ugly turquoise and looked more like the olive green of his bros. Otherwise, fantastic set. Probably my 3rd favorite behind Neca 2008 mirage style TMNT and Mezco’s.

Not a fan of the IDW turtle designs especially the odd faces.
Don’t care for when characters that are proven popular for years & they change them for the sake of change.
Sure, you get unique sculpts for each one but that’s not true TMNT.
Mikey’s coloring is plain bad, that teal color isn’t working.
On the plus side, it’s great that this toy company is improving when certain other bigger companies are slacking.
