I was a former "Gangster" back then in the 80's and Recto was our hang out, There used to be a club called "MWF" which literally, was open everyday so Recto was a frequent and familiar spot for me. Gang life is terrible, senseless and future-less. I managed to get out by being sent overseas and could not be more happier to be out of it. The lure of the criminal activities and money is alluring as it is addictive but nonetheless a bad experience in all. Back then there was no social media and we were more subtle in self-promotion and music did nothing to inspire us. It's hard for me to understand the culture today regarding gangs even if am a Hip Hop fan ( not this commercial rap). I was addicted to the violence not so much the money. I was addicted to instilling fear on others. No future in gangs and feel sorry for those who have lost loved one because of it. Hope they can get out before it's too late for them. I am turning 50 and hope i can help or inspire others to live a better, longer life instead.
You people got to learn the difference between a rapper and a gangster. A rapper is someone who talks a lot and gets paid a lot of money for, but don't actually run around with a gun. A gangster is a guy with a gun who kills people and spends most of his adult life in prison. They ain't the same thing yo, no matter what anybody says. Keep it real.
Manila is not as brutal as u think it is, maybe in 80's or 90's. Gangsters here is probably too rich to give a fuck. Most of them are being protected by a politicians or policemen, they will only kill if someone gets in their way. But yeah these guys are rappers
Nice Video! Yes this neighborhood is the real deal . An L.A Mexicans and Filipinos hood. Nice to see these guys as "Veteranos" trying to teach the youth peace, and overcoming violence. Cause back in the 80's and 90's it was like the Wild Wild West out here in L.A.
Thank you! The veteranos of the bigger gangs of Manila achieved to get rid of gang rivalry and violence over three years ago. That’s very positive indeed.
I remember back in highschool. My brother he is a TST member. He used to get in a lot of gang fights with TBS. He always use to carry a gun back then. Sometimes when he comes home he would hide hes gun in my room. I hear a lot of stories from me and my brothers common friends. Its effing crazy. There was a story, my brother threw a grenade in one of the tbs spot. Luckily it didn't blow up. My classmate who was in the same gang as my brother i remember got shot like 2 times in just almost 2 years. To think we live in a part of qc that is not even close to the more dangerous, depressed areas of town and things like those still happen. Most of the people i know that i went to school with back then who were in the same gang are either dead or still in prison. Gang fights here in Ph use to be so crazy when i was younger. That was early 2000's. Now my brother is a business man with a loving wife and a beautiful daughter. I am happy he got out of the gang life right away.
Wow that’s crazy indeed! I’m glad your brother got his life back on track. His experience in gang life probably made him stronger as a person. It are the darkest periods in our lives that teach us the most.

I’ll be ok. It always takes a little risk to find the good stories. Not being reckless though.
