The idea behind this performance is pretty cool. It is part of a tv project to celebrate lowering the voting age in Japan from 21 to 18 (hence 18 Fes). So the programme was about selecting 1000 17-18 year old to be the audience. They weren't professional singers and once selected they practiced and rehearsed for months. The song was written by One OK Rock for this specific occasion with the purpose to empower all these youths.
Random facts about One Ok Rock: 1. Taka comes from a family of singers. His mother and father are both famous Enka singers. He has a younger brother Hiro who is the lead vocalist in the JRock band MY FIRST STORY. 2. Ryota, the bassist for OOR is married to the sister of Avril Lavigne. And they have a child together. OOR also did a song called Listen with Ryota's sister in law Avril Lavigne. 3. OOR has toured with numerous American bands including: All Time Low, 5 Seconds of Summer, Sleeping With Sirens, Hoobastank (though that was just a guest performance) etc. And they are currently signed with Fueled by Ramen. 4. OOR was set to open for Linken Park before Chester Bennington's death. 5. OOR also toured earlier this year with Ed Sheeran on the second leg of his Asian tour. 6. Taka has been featured in several songs with multiple other singers or groups including: Simple Plan, Against the Current, Aimer, etc. Sorry for the information dump lol. Anyway, Korea has KPop and they own that, but Japan has JRock and they totally own the Rock genre. If you ever want to delve more into JRock I highly recommend an all girl band named Band Maid. I'm so happy you did a song from One Ok Rock. Taka is crazy amazing and the whole band has lots of energy. They aren't the only band from Japan my brother. Take a listen to Scandal. Haruna, Tomomi, Mami and Rina all girls will rock your socks off. Also, you have to give some love to X Japan. Hide pronounced (He Day) is the greatest guitarist to ever come out of Japan. He is absolutely amazing with Pata, Toshi, Yoshi and Heath. Look for pink hair but Hide died way too young in 1998 right after making his hit Pink Spider as a solo which is crazy amazing. But hes no longer with us
