I kind of did the same thing. I did some trading for PP2 merit, and then realized "Huh, this is kind of cool." It can actually be pretty complex if you get deep into it.
as a new player, this video was sorely needed. i had an idea of what to get up to but small things like builds and shit to get started properly were difficult, the more in depth ones have helped tremendously thank you very much for making them ^^
@Mile13Gaming ATM I'm grinding money, then gonna figure out what to do for guardian stuff :O I eventually wanna fight goids haha I think you have most guides already, most are just a few years old now so I wasn't sure if they were still relevant or not for current ED
@@jackthompson7546 I think the engineering one is the only guide that's had decent changes since I put it out, and that was just taking the RNG out of the upgrades, which I added a comment on. Coming up on a year since my first video. Crazy...
As someone who started playing ED before Odyssey and made a small fortune from Road 2 Riches exploration, exobiology breaks the monotony of jumping between systems and launching probes into valuable planets. It also made me the bulk of my first 944m credits and it will most certainly help with the rest of the 56m and beyond. I second trying out all the gameplay loops as well. Heck, if you want to unlock all the engineers, you *must* do a bit of everything (Lei Cheung, Lori Jameson and Selene Jean's unlock requirements come to mind here). Even unlocking the Guardian FSD Booster, which is an essential component for the best exploration ship builds, requires you to dabble in light combat.
@HeliosExeunt I'm barely 50 hours in now, and I'm getting an exploration ship set up to go and do this one big go and just explore for a while. I'm excited for this colonization update. :D wanna stsrt making big money so when I'm ready to dive into that I have the bank roll for it haha
On you exploration Asp build, why not downsize Powerplant to 4A to save 3 tons and have a cooler running ship? With the extra 3 tons you could install a heat sink and a 1 D repair limpet, and still have a slightly longer jump range, it is like 1.2 million more creds for the 4A compared to 5D, but that seems like a low price pay to have your ship run close to 10% cooler, and the ability to repair your ships hull if a hard landing occurs. o7
Long story short, because the AspX was one of my first ships, and I didn't know that back in the day. Been on my list to rectify, but never did it, LOL.
Really great vid. I'm a commander with 10k plus hours in game and endorse everything here with the caveat that a lot of what such guides offer is subject to your own choices and play style. I love the freedom to play how you want. The narrator acknowledges this but just wanted to restate here.
Totally. That's one of my favorite things about Elite. It's a galaxy-sized sandbox that lays out all the tools for you and says "OK, you take it from here. Go!" Every feature, every play mechanic, none of it is mandatory. Just a bunch of toys available for selection. :)
Good video. But not advising a repair limpet and a heatsink for a new player getting into exploration should be in there. Exclusion zones and hard landings are going to happen. Without a limpet controller, why advise a cargo rack on an exploration ship?
Good calls. I actually haven't used either for any of my exploration ships, but definitely not a bad idea. I'll add that to my exploration video. Thanks! o7
@@Mile13Gaming I haven’t needed any in my expeditions in the past, until I started streaming and now I freaking need a repair limpet for doing a 20 jump run. It’s crazy.
I just started a week ago and i dont know repair limpets are a thing! I took my hauler 800 ly for exploration. Made it back without any prblems though so i guess i got lucky? Im going to build a better exploration ship next with repairs in mind. 😉
800 ly is like a walk to the mailbox with how gigantic the galaxy is. An extended trip, you need to be pretty much self sufficient. There's dssa and carriers spread about so it's not as big of a deal these days. And there's the hull seals/fuel rats. Your ship integrity degrades so if you do end up taking damage, it'll be magnified. Losing billions of credits of exo and planet scans isn't fun.
Well, now that you’ve done this topic, I’m sure I’ll be making a two hour long video covering the exact same topic lol. I honestly don’t know how anybody can make a video less than one hour long. It seems virtually impossible to me 😂
LOL, ironically, making a shorter video is admittedly a bigger time investment. A lot goes into writing the script, recording the video, then editing the video and audio. But I like that part a lot. The way I see it, we fill two separate but equal needs. Sometimes you want a full playthrough to get the whole picture, sometimes you want an edited overview. Two sides of the same coin. :) I'm always down for a collab. Shoot me a line if you have any ideas!
Thanks! That's a free app called "ED Copilot". I really like it for Exobiology. I actually have a video on it - give it a whirl! ua-cam.com/video/xQpbV0IuHm8/v-deo.html
nice video :) I got my Phantom to 69ly jump range but I'm wondering why a higher jump range is so important to most explorers. I mean if you pick a spot on the map far away from your actual position and you say "okay I'll go explore all the systems between me and that spot" you will actually explore more systems with a lower jump range since you need to do more jumps to get there. So why is a (in my case) 69ly jump range better than lets say 45?
Great question. For me, I have a target spot that I want to explore that's several light-years out, but I want to concentrate my exploration around that site, not necessarily the entire way there. If I'm leaving from the Bubble, I'm going to want to skip past the first 1000LY or so because it's harder to find undiscovered systems that close.
