I had the privilege of being the proud owner of a Bouvier for 12 wonderful years. I have tears in my eyes as I type this. Her name was Zoe. Here's a couple things she didn't mention about them. #1 If you have kids, no one will get close to your children unless you say it's OK. My dog would always put herself between anyone and my children. It was so cool. Like normal kids, they pulled on her fur, grabbed her and played. She never ever did a thing. She never barked (they are not yelpers) except for how I trained her. When someone came to the door (you new a big dog was on the otherside!) Bouviers are an interesting breed. If someone was to break in your house, they will not bark. They will wait until they're inside and corner then. The crock will not move or else!! Another thing, when they attack, they dont jump upward they will torpedo into the chest area, knocking just about anyone over (similar to a Rot) They can sense a threat without you even saying a word (as she mentioned) They wont bark at the person. They will sit and let the person know they are watching them. (pretty intimidating for anyone) I've had 3 other dogs since. Not one ever came close. If you're not going to show the dog, I suggest you shave her in the summer. She loved it. They are beautiful dog shaven as well. Love the snow, But brush them as soon as you can to avoid knots!. Worth ever penny. Am I rambling!! Ok, i'll stop.

also had a bouvier called zoe she got to be 14 years old super sweet dog, had one litter from her and kept one son out of the 11 puppies the son also got to be 14 years old stil mis them to this day

I had Bouviers when I met my husband. (Still do) We were out one day and a guy said “nice Bouvs!” I smiled, said thank you, then noticed my husband look horrified and enraged. It took me a second, then I told him “he said BOUVS.” My husband said “oh! I couldn’t believe you seemed so pleased.”
I was working K9 security back in the 80's, mostly Dobes & GSDs... Then they got one Bouvier. Hands down, THE BEST DOG I ever worked with. The breed absolutely captured my admiration. Terra could *consistently* get to within reach of ya on the gravel covered site before you even realized she was there. LOL! I used to joke that a Bouvier is the brain of a Judo trained Malinois in the body of a black bear. Since then, we've had 5. The 1st one was the runt of his litter, but he grew MUCH bigger than all his siblings He saved my life... twice. He also pulled my lifted 1980 Toyota 4WD with monster tires across a parking lot one day (while it was in 1st gear) because he saw someone push me to ground when I came out of the store. 👀 I gave the second as a present to my wife. Honey wasn't very tall, but she was 100lbs+ & her back was wider than my double hand spread with thumbs touching When we got our 3rd, I made a custom adapter out of some tube steel & trained him to do carting. You could see in the way he walked... a high stepping, prancing gate... that the greatest joy in his life was when he got to pull to my daughter in her Radio Flyer wagon. Pulling me on my 21sp mountain bike in top gear *faster than I could pedal it* was a close second. IMHO, the only "drawback" is the amount of coat care they require... If ya train them when they're young, the grooming becomes bonding time with them. Oh yeah & you will find out they are the body-block champs of the K9 world. Last one has been gone for over year now...😞 I miss each & every one of them every single day.
Get another!!! Some good breeders here in Michigan. I've shared lots of life moments since a child with this breed and they will always be my favorite. Super cool to see you mention the law enforcement application potential. These dogs were pulling carts in the trenches with gas masks on in WW1. My mother also spoke with a guy who does military level security work and he's been training his to scale 15ft+ walls. Super cool stuff. Their agility is something to behold. Especially considering their size. Gotta go see my little sister Angel tomorrow!!

Having a well spoken person to interview increases the watch-ability of your videos immensely. Love dogs, love most of your videos, but the ones that stand out have are the videos with interviewees that are well spoken and well versed about the dog they are talking about.
From Sweden here - I have had many Bouviers as a Pet... (me) From 8 years to 30 years old... And my mom and dad had bouviers until last year 2019 .... But We all say . Bouviers is the breed for families... Best family dags ever.
Finally a breeder who cares more about a dog being in a good home rather than one with a yard. It's frustrating when you're committed to a dog and the lifestyle they need but are turned down for not having a backyard. I live in a city. I personally would rather my dog be with someone who is dedicated to the dog than someone who believes having a backyard counts as exercise and being a good owner.
I’ve had a bouvier since I was 6 years old! She’s now 14 and coming close to the end and I’m gonna be so sad when she goes. I loved growing up with her. My parents were very “we’ll take care of the money aspect of having a dog, you take care of the training the dog”. So as a 6-8 year old kid I was able to train my bouvier really well. They are very smart and usually catch on to commands instantly. They are a bit stubborn as she said but my dog Coco had about a 2-3 month stubborn streak and that’s it. I grew up in a densely wooded area so she was able to run around freely without fear of cars or other dogs. Bouviers are the types of dogs you won’t need a leash with(not suggesting you do that but if you train them they are more than capable). But I’m rambling about stupid stuff. What matters was she was the best with my baby siblings, a sweetheart to people she was told were ok(very simple command, as long as I showed these people belonged to me they were fine), great guard dog, I mentioned I lived on a really isolated wooded home so when people showed up they weren’t supposed to be there or really REALLY lost and good ol Coco the dog scared them off. Super smart, love the snow, shave them in the summer, and love them. I mentioned she’s 14 and she’s not too mobile but when you get her excited she’ll run around so she’s really healthy for her age but we give her CBD to take care of her joint pain/stiffness and it’s a night a day difference. We just got another bouvier puppy in July and they love each other.
I'm from Flanders and i've had a couple of these dogs over the years, and they are you're best friend if you treat them properly, they love kids, they like you're friends, really i can't think of a negative thing, about them ,but the hair, you must keep it well groomed if you don't keep it in order it will become a mess and you will have a day work to get it in order. Trust me this breed is fantastic in every way trust and respect them bring em up right and you'll have a friend for as long he lives.
I used to have a neighbour that had a bouvier when i was a kid age 6 to 12, used to be my best friend. He was a protective of the yard and fence to it but wouldn't do anything to me if i crawled over the fence, we had a good friendship, bouviers are really fun dogs to play with as a kid that i remember, kind dogs aswell.
Hi! I currently own a Bouvier and all you say about the breed is spot on. Even though I had owned many dogs in my life she was the hardest dog for me to understand what she needed. But now she is 5 years old and after much hard work and training I must say she is just a wonderful dog. Very loyal, trusting and loves to work with me. She has her obedience CD title, an agility title, farm dog certificate and Companion dog titles. The trick is to keep them busy or they will tell you off!!! Piper is like having a 16 year old girl. She always has an opinion! Lol! I have found that they also make great support dogs. She will pick things up off the floor for me and because she is so strong I can use her as support to get off the floor. We have recently taken up carting and she and I are waiting for the Corona virus to be over so we can go shopping with our cart!
I have had 11 Bouviers over the years and Pilar is right on. I have one of her puppies. Biggest challenge is the grooming. My Bouviers have done Police work, herding, obedience, agility, and rally in addition to both dogs being conformation champions. The puppy I got from Pilar is a Grand Champion #23 in the nation according to Canine Chronicle. 7-18.
My family and I have had two of Pilar's dogs and they are the best thing that ever happened to me. We don't show them but they are the best family dogs ever.
Have shared my homes, townhouse/rented house in town/country acreage home, with Bouviers for over 42 years. Your interview is the most informative and complete scenario of the breed that I have seen. They are an incredibly patient, good minded dog, and take very good care of their human herd. Take all this lady says into account and you will not be sorry if you choose to live life with a Bouv.
i love this lady's idea about the ideal home for her bouvs and dogs in general. i get tired of the whole large yard, six foot fence preference because that's not representative of the owner
I certainly agree with her on that. I have a Black Russian Terrier in a townhome with essentially no yard, but we go places and walk several times a day. We go training to formal classes and routine daily interactions are such a great way to bond and reinforce those learning opportunities consistently. My BRT is very well socialized and sweet temperament, unusual for this even larger breed, which is quite often mistaken for the Bouvier des Flandres. (My BRT's brother was not raised properly and not socialized, he turned out quite vicious and the breeder demanded him back and worked with him for months to get him to a suitable adoptable home. In my book, he's a lost cause as far as ever having sufficient city manners, but can live out in the country.) This breeder is quite well-versed not only in the breed, but how to responsibly screen and select suitable homes.

Hahahaha,...John Siejk and Cyrious both of mine are Ter'Avalon, but are not related to one another. I did the same as you. I started looking at other breeders but Anna Shavalskya (dentist by profession) hooked me up, with a male later despite being Ter'Avalon, completely unrelated. As long as you do the tests, if you plan to breed, she will find you an unrelated female. She also does all the testing. I did not get another BRT until my first was full grown. Raising two puppies at once can be torture. Best of luck. Watch Westminster, you'll see some great specimens, (but stay clear of Helene Haldi - buyer beware with her.) Genevere and Ulysses Ter'Avalon, I'm sure one of them is a sibling.
They are also great dogs for a person with autism that like to "rough and tumble " a few times a week... I was that kid... I loved Sherry with my whole heart.

We adopted a Bouvier when I was a teenager. He was a beautiful, loyal, affectionate person. Very protective, very playful, loved to play tug of war. Bouviers are amazing dogs and it's sad to see that their numbers are declining. They are the best pet. Very intelligent - they will learn how to open doors to let themselves out. And you can teach them throughout their lives too!
My dad used to have one. He loved his dog. Bouviers have an amazing sence for when somebody is nice and when somebody is trouble. They will only guard in case of trouble instead of like your mastiff breed that will guard everything and everywhere.

My dad ended up rescuing his Bouvier after his previous owner shot him for some unknown reason. His name was Festus and I never knew him Personally as he passed before I was born. But the amount of stories I've heard about this dog has made it feel like I've known him my whole life. My dad told me that Festus did everything he asked first try and sometimes saved him from precarious situations while working in the forest service. He saved him from drowning in a frozen river, chased off bears that got to close to camp. Rode in the Helicopter without fuss. Protected our family home from a would be burglar, and helped lift a car chassis by tugging on the rope and holding it long enough for my dad to lock down the rope. Although my favorite story was how he and my Mom got allong when she entered the relationship. Festus would steal my dads underwear from the laundry line and hide them in his dog house because he didn't like my Mom at first and she was touching my Dad's things. When my Dad came home from work he was often greeted at the door by his dog protesting the situation very vocally, He would simply turn to my mom as she pointed to the doghouse and he'd ask "You did laundry today didn't you."
So a great bread ! I have met my first bouvier at my mom’s friend and felt In love with Mister. My Edgar is 6 years old now and I love him like my kid! He is so protective and loving with me and my family! Very good with the kids! Love that bread more than any other one.
Bennet is nice! I had two Bouviers as a kid. Just recently bought another one from a great responsible breeder. This breed is a particular dog and not for the average person. Not just because a good Bouvier is going to cost several thousand dollars, but because of the unique needs and demands of the breed itself. No real Bouvier can be bought at a pet shop, it just does not happen.

My female Bouvier is a little over 65 pounds. Loves to play rough with other dogs. There is a sissy of a pitbull down the street that acts like it gets hurt all the time. When it yelps, my girl stops play to see if it was hurt, and waits for the pitty to engage back into playing again. Very considerate of others. She's 3 and just got into her protective mode. We were doing a beaver job at a tree farm and the land owner brought his family out. She didnt know them, so she herded them back to their truck and kept them there until I called her off, then she treated them like family. Being a bird trainer, performing Macaws (Parrot Bill Channel) I know how to train animals, but have only trained her to be my best friend. Eva Come, Eva Sit and Eva Down is all she knows. But with those commands I can control her enough to keep her out of trouble. I can leave my dinner on the coffee table, go to the kitchen to get something to drink and come back, knowing she will not touch my food unless I tell her it's okay...never trained her to do that, she just does it. At 70, she's the best dog I ever had, and best friend too. I could go on all day about my Eva and never cover a subject twice.
I grew up with a dog like this in Belgium. died at 13 years old. This dog has no problem sleeping outside in the snow during winter while guarding his owner's home. Extremely powerful and loud, they are excellent guard dogs. They are very smart and tricky, in the sense that they'd hide behind a tree and wait for the thief to come and then suddenly attack and jump, if they really want to grab you. Excellent dog! However I wouldn't recommend them if you live in a warm place like Florida. The hair grows very fast, you can just shave them in the summer if you want, by winter time the hair will be back to normal again. Takes quite a bit of maintenance or else their coat turns into rasta dreadlocks.
I have my second Bouvier! They are the most incredible breed! Once you have had a Bouvier, no other dog really matches up to them. Just LOVE them! Thank you for your video xx In South Africa though, we don't crop the ears or dock the tails. Here in South Africa - the Bouvier is on the decline. Happily we have a wonderful breeder in SA who is totally ethical and breeds for the improvement of the breed. On occasion she imports new dogs/bitches from kennels in Holland to improve the gene pool.

It’s raining here today, and my kids (ages from 1 to 13) have literally been on your page all day. You do such amazing work, bro. I share your same enthusiasm for dogs, and as my Mini Dachshund begins her golden years, in looking into what breed I want to purchase/adopt for my family. I’ve trained my dog, and many others, for about 10-12 years now. And I’m looking into working breeds as I feel the climate change in our country calls for me to have more protection in my home. I have a little girl, so I think daddy’s natural instinct just kicks in with that. But, the dogs I’ve been looking into are you on your page. Anyways, I’ve gotten off topic, but this lady is well spoken. I love her passion for this breed. Her knowledge oozes with with every sentence that she says. I love it. One of my favorite breeds. We have had Rotts for close to twenty years, but are considering a Bouvier for our next dog. We are an active family that include our dog in all our activities. Our current Rott has done search and agility until needing surgery for torn acl's .
My girl was 15 when she passed❤️ she was the first dog I ever trained myself I have had 2 dogs since and neither have been as loyal or as smart as her. She was stubborn to train but once we got a trick then it was spot on everytime. She was amazing with our horses. Only down part was she was backyard breed. We got her when she was 4 from her previous owner where she was an outdoor dog. She had only been in a crate at the vets office and 2 times at my friends house. But she didn't care she would lay down in it not bark and just take a nap. I miss having one so much
Aaah when You are willing to deal with the fur they usually are great dogs. As a newborn there was one in the house already. Dingo, a burly girl at about 50 KG standing taller then most boys of her breed. She was all about her family taking orders from no one else but even at 4 years old me and older sisters could read and wright with her. Just the same as she was with our parents. My earliest memories are Dingo never being far from us particularly when other folks were around. When my youngest brother was born and people came visiting she stuck close to his cradle. I remember it being the one time even my dad was not able to move her. Basicly she had chosen her post and stuck too it. Not that visitors had anything to fear but no way in hell she would not keep an eye on things. By the time it was time for a dog of my own in my early 20ties it had to be a Bouv and when i met Yke we just hit it of together from the very first sec. She was no looker but from a working line. I got her from a guy that bred and trained them for police and guard work. But my Yke just could not be moved to bite. Excelling at the obience part though and a straight up sweetheart. Untill i was abroad for work a few day's when my mom called. Yke was at the vet and it was bad. She had taken her out on a walk and some drunk jerk decided to try mess with my mom. Calm but vigilent at first but the instant the guy made physical contact she had gone all in so fierce even my mom, having been around large working dogs all her life was impressed. The guy had a broken bottle and cut her face up pretty bad but she kept it up untill a passing by neighbour knocked the guy out. And my mom called her off. She never before or after bit anyone or showed any notable agression but that one instant she was called upon she was all there. Paying for it with an eye. Yke has left me long since she slipped quitly away one rainy November night. But whenever i see a bouv i see that mixture of love, loyalty and, if need be uncompromising fierceness and i smile.
A friend used to do security in Jane /Finch area in T.O. simply put, you dont want to go there. They used Dobe's, Beauceron's ( some crossed with dobe) and The Bouv. They stopped using the Bouv as it's appearance wasnt enough of a deterrent. I really admired the bone on the Bouv. Currently looking at Bouv, Black Russian Terrier and Giant Schnauzer.
Had my first bouvier de Flandres from a great breeder in El Paso Texas redsan Wilbur was his name great amazing dog I named him max you need to spend your money and time with this breed and well worth it
Just came across them because I love all the Belgian breeds,as I have family roots there but a Malinois is the perfect dog for me. These look very similar to my mom's laberdoodle or golden just more beefy ha kinds the hair does. I'd love one if had the land and means but Malinois take up all the attention. Great video
This was my first dog i got in 1998. They r unbelievably smart and caring. I got her on my 2nd birthday and When I learnt how to bike she would grab my leg and stop me if I would go to fast or got scared. She was my guardian angel and never left my side. I would get off the school bus to my dog on the side walk waiting for me like the movies lol she never left my side and was most loyal dog ever. Every night she would go to everyone's room twice a night just to make sure everyone was still there. I was pretty much raised by a bouvier. They r alot of work and need alot of attention so please don't get one if ur not dedicated... we got mine by accident she was suppose to be a medium dog but turned out to be a giant teddy bear. the best mistake we every made lol
We have two and they are the best dogs I’ve ever had. Our boy Nico is a goofball and so sweet. Sophie is much more reserved but she’s just watching what’s going on, then she’ll swoop in for some kisses and cuddles. I have them in an apartment and they just need regular exercise and they go EVERYWHERE with us…they love it. No dog should be exiled to a backyard, but this would be devastating to the bouvier. They love to be around their family. The protective nature is genetic and can’t be trained into or out of the dogs. You have to let them know what’s appropriate early on and you’ll have no problems after that. I would say being a bouvier owner is a lifestyle, one must be very involved in their training, socialization and grooming. We get to care for these beautiful animals for a period but they are part of our lives forever.
I really loved my Bouvier, Redwinds Ichabod Vuilbaard, 1996 NAWBA Working Champion and only Bouvier the compete in the International Police Dog Championships. I really miss my big boy.
My grandmother had a dog, crossed between Bouvier des Flandres and... We don't know exactly what. When I was little I thought she was a black bear, she was so huge, you had to brush her hair out of the way if you wanted to see her eyes, but she had the kindest deep black eyes. I used to ride her as a horse when I was small, and she was always so gentle whenever my Grandma would put me on her back. Loved this dog

i'm from Belgium. Bouviers are very KIND dogs, you can train them, they are intelligent,... BUT they are made to be independent, they make their own decisions (always in favor of what HE thinks you want). When I was a child, and there was a malinois on the farm I would be afraid. When there was a Bouvier, I would just come in and play with the (VERY large) dog. What I know: just give a Bouvier some cows to manage!! That's top (or something similar).
Love this breed and want one so bad . My grandfather had one as his odd dog in his pack of euro hounds from France for bear . The dog was so great and protected the pack . I want one jet black cropped and docked
My half Bouier was a therapy dog. He loved everyone except one guy. (it turns out he was carrying a gun. My dog didn't know guns. He just knew this guy was not right.) He had the hilarious habit of loving someone in particular and gumming their shirts, not chewing holes, just soaking it while they were wearing the shirt. Only happened twice but they were loved. Never seen it or heard of it before or since. Best dog I ever owned. Irreplaceable.
the dogs are so amazing. here in slovenia we also have one breeder and i am thinking the whole time to have one. i wouldnt be my first dog with a strong character. i am just worried if i can keep the dog in our big flat on third floor without elevater.
I really enjoyed the positive information you gave and what to look for in this breed. I’ve been wanting a protection dog for the house that is smart enough to know how to gauge a situation. I train dogs but mostly behavior and basic obedience. I’m strongly considering this breed over a Rottweiler that’s more intimidating and is a little more rough around the edges and maybe isn’t the right fit for us. But I’m doing my research before I commit.
Well done, this is a huge & strong cattle dog breed from Belgium. They look impressive. If you make a video about "Australian cattle dog", you will see an unflagging medium size working breed with (wild dog blood), you can see this dog in the movie "Mad max 2". I think that you can find a kennel near San Francisco Bay area.
I’ve owned multiple breeds including GSDs and my Bouvier is a faster learner and far more independent, naturally wants to work and home security is natural but they are not for beginners the owner needs to be assertive and put themselves into the position of authority.
Im going to start breeding 6 large breed of dogs at the end of this year and this breed is in the list i be here in chicago illinois and are going to be really cheap soe more people knows all this beatifull breeds

I think this may be one of the breeds my Leelah, an Idaho shag dog mix was created from. Super smart, lightning on legs, the most gentle, fierce and loyal dog. We have her therapy certified and she loves her job healing people.

also had a bouvier called zoe she got to be 14 years old super sweet dog, had one litter from her and kept one son out of the 11 puppies the son also got to be 14 years old stil mis them to this day

I had Bouviers when I met my husband. (Still do) We were out one day and a guy said “nice Bouvs!” I smiled, said thank you, then noticed my husband look horrified and enraged. It took me a second, then I told him “he said BOUVS.” My husband said “oh! I couldn’t believe you seemed so pleased.”

I was working K9 security back in the 80's,
mostly Dobes & GSDs...
Then they got one Bouvier.
Hands down, THE BEST DOG I ever worked with.

LOL! I used to joke that a Bouvier is the brain of a Judo trained Malinois in the body of a black bear.
Since then, we've had 5.
The 1st one was the runt of his litter, but he grew MUCH bigger than all his siblings
He saved my life... twice.
He also pulled my lifted 1980 Toyota 4WD with monster tires across a parking lot one day (while it was in 1st gear)
because he saw someone push me to ground when I came out of the store. 👀
I gave the second as a present to my wife.
Honey wasn't very tall,
but she was 100lbs+ & her back was wider than my double hand spread with thumbs touching
When we got our 3rd, I made a custom adapter out of some tube steel & trained him to do carting.
You could see in the way he walked...
a high stepping, prancing gate...
that the greatest joy in his life was when he got to pull to my daughter in her Radio Flyer wagon.
Pulling me on my 21sp mountain bike in top gear *faster than I could pedal it* was a close second.
IMHO, the only "drawback" is the amount of coat care they require...
If ya train them when they're young, the grooming becomes bonding time with them.
Oh yeah & you will find out they are the body-block champs of the K9 world.

Super cool to see you mention the law enforcement application potential. These dogs were pulling carts in the trenches with gas masks on in WW1. My mother also spoke with a guy who does military level security work and he's been training his to scale 15ft+ walls. Super cool stuff. Their agility is something to behold. Especially considering their size.

A giant piece of Velcro, attached to your side. You will not be alone. Clowns that like to make you laugh. And insightful enough to relate to your emotions. They can look into your eyes and assess. GOD made them special companions. Great video. Love your passion for dog.

Connor Jared Bouviers are a more complex breed, so it’s nice they found someone who really gets them.
From Sweden here - I have had many Bouviers as a Pet... (me) From 8 years to 30 years old... And my mom and dad had bouviers until last year 2019 .... But We all say . Bouviers is the breed for families... Best family dags ever.
Finally a breeder who cares more about a dog being in a good home rather than one with a yard. It's frustrating when you're committed to a dog and the lifestyle they need but are turned down for not having a backyard. I live in a city. I personally would rather my dog be with someone who is dedicated to the dog than someone who believes having a backyard counts as exercise and being a good owner.
I’ve had a bouvier since I was 6 years old! She’s now 14 and coming close to the end and I’m gonna be so sad when she goes. I loved growing up with her. My parents were very “we’ll take care of the money aspect of having a dog, you take care of the training the dog”. So as a 6-8 year old kid I was able to train my bouvier really well. They are very smart and usually catch on to commands instantly. They are a bit stubborn as she said but my dog Coco had about a 2-3 month stubborn streak and that’s it. I grew up in a densely wooded area so she was able to run around freely without fear of cars or other dogs. Bouviers are the types of dogs you won’t need a leash with(not suggesting you do that but if you train them they are more than capable). But I’m rambling about stupid stuff. What matters was she was the best with my baby siblings, a sweetheart to people she was told were ok(very simple command, as long as I showed these people belonged to me they were fine), great guard dog, I mentioned I lived on a really isolated wooded home so when people showed up they weren’t supposed to be there or really REALLY lost and good ol Coco the dog scared them off. Super smart, love the snow, shave them in the summer, and love them. I mentioned she’s 14 and she’s not too mobile but when you get her excited she’ll run around so she’s really healthy for her age but we give her CBD to take care of her joint pain/stiffness and it’s a night a day difference. We just got another bouvier puppy in July and they love each other.

I'm from Flanders and i've had a couple of these dogs over the years, and they are you're best friend if you treat them properly, they love kids, they like you're friends, really i can't think of a negative thing, about them ,but the hair, you must keep it well groomed if you don't keep it in order it will become a mess and you will have a day work to get it in order. Trust me this breed is fantastic in every way trust and respect them bring em up right and you'll have a friend for as long he lives.
I used to have a neighbour that had a bouvier when i was a kid age 6 to 12, used to be my best friend. He was a protective of the yard and fence to it but wouldn't do anything to me if i crawled over the fence, we had a good friendship, bouviers are really fun dogs to play with as a kid that i remember, kind dogs aswell.
Hi! I currently own a Bouvier and all you say about the breed is spot on. Even though I had owned many dogs in my life she was the hardest dog for me to understand what she needed. But now she is 5 years old and after much hard work and training I must say she is just a wonderful dog. Very loyal, trusting and loves to work with me. She has her obedience CD title, an agility title, farm dog certificate and Companion dog titles. The trick is to keep them busy or they will tell you off!!! Piper is like having a 16 year old girl. She always has an opinion! Lol! I have found that they also make great support dogs. She will pick things up off the floor for me and because she is so strong I can use her as support to get off the floor. We have recently taken up carting and she and I are waiting for the Corona virus to be over so we can go shopping with our cart!
I have had 11 Bouviers over the years and Pilar is right on. I have one of her puppies. Biggest challenge is the grooming. My Bouviers have done Police work, herding, obedience, agility, and rally in addition to both dogs being conformation champions. The puppy I got from Pilar is a Grand Champion #23 in the nation according to Canine Chronicle. 7-18.
My family and I have had two of Pilar's dogs and they are the best thing that ever happened to me. We don't show them but they are the best family dogs ever.
Have shared my homes, townhouse/rented house in town/country acreage home, with Bouviers for over 42 years. Your interview is the most informative and complete scenario of the breed that I have seen. They are an incredibly patient, good minded dog, and take very good care of their human herd. Take all this lady says into account and you will not be sorry if you choose to live life with a Bouv.
i love this lady's idea about the ideal home for her bouvs and dogs in general. i get tired of the whole large yard, six foot fence preference because that's not representative of the owner
I certainly agree with her on that. I have a Black Russian Terrier in a townhome with essentially no yard, but we go places and walk several times a day. We go training to formal classes and routine daily interactions are such a great way to bond and reinforce those learning opportunities consistently. My BRT is very well socialized and sweet temperament, unusual for this even larger breed, which is quite often mistaken for the Bouvier des Flandres. (My BRT's brother was not raised properly and not socialized, he turned out quite vicious and the breeder demanded him back and worked with him for months to get him to a suitable adoptable home. In my book, he's a lost cause as far as ever having sufficient city manners, but can live out in the country.) This breeder is quite well-versed not only in the breed, but how to responsibly screen and select suitable homes.

Hahahaha,...John Siejk and Cyrious both of mine are Ter'Avalon, but are not related to one another. I did the same as you. I started looking at other breeders but Anna Shavalskya (dentist by profession) hooked me up, with a male later despite being Ter'Avalon, completely unrelated. As long as you do the tests, if you plan to breed, she will find you an unrelated female. She also does all the testing. I did not get another BRT until my first was full grown. Raising two puppies at once can be torture. Best of luck. Watch Westminster, you'll see some great specimens, (but stay clear of Helene Haldi - buyer beware with her.) Genevere and Ulysses Ter'Avalon, I'm sure one of them is a sibling.
They are also great dogs for a person with autism that like to "rough and tumble " a few times a week...

We adopted a Bouvier when I was a teenager. He was a beautiful, loyal, affectionate person. Very protective, very playful, loved to play tug of war. Bouviers are amazing dogs and it's sad to see that their numbers are declining. They are the best pet. Very intelligent - they will learn how to open doors to let themselves out. And you can teach them throughout their lives too!

My dad used to have one. He loved his dog. Bouviers have an amazing sence for when somebody is nice and when somebody is trouble. They will only guard in case of trouble instead of like your mastiff breed that will guard everything and everywhere.

My dad ended up rescuing his Bouvier after his previous owner shot him for some unknown reason. His name was Festus and I never knew him Personally as he passed before I was born. But the amount of stories I've heard about this dog has made it feel like I've known him my whole life.
My dad told me that Festus did everything he asked first try and sometimes saved him from precarious situations while working in the forest service. He saved him from drowning in a frozen river, chased off bears that got to close to camp. Rode in the Helicopter without fuss. Protected our family home from a would be burglar, and helped lift a car chassis by tugging on the rope and holding it long enough for my dad to lock down the rope.
Although my favorite story was how he and my Mom got allong when she entered the relationship. Festus would steal my dads underwear from the laundry line and hide them in his dog house because he didn't like my Mom at first and she was touching my Dad's things. When my Dad came home from work he was often greeted at the door by his dog protesting the situation very vocally, He would simply turn to my mom as she pointed to the doghouse and he'd ask "You did laundry today didn't you."
So a great bread ! I have met my first bouvier at my mom’s friend and felt In love with Mister. My Edgar is 6 years old now and I love him like my kid! He is so protective and loving with me and my family! Very good with the kids! Love that bread more than any other one.
Bennet is nice! I had two Bouviers as a kid. Just recently bought another one from a great responsible breeder. This breed is a particular dog and not for the average person. Not just because a good Bouvier is going to cost several thousand dollars, but because of the unique needs and demands of the breed itself. No real Bouvier can be bought at a pet shop, it just does not happen.

My female Bouvier is a little over 65 pounds. Loves to play rough with other dogs. There is a sissy of a pitbull down the street that acts like it gets hurt all the time. When it yelps, my girl stops play to see if it was hurt, and waits for the pitty to engage back into playing again. Very considerate of others.
She's 3 and just got into her protective mode. We were doing a beaver job at a tree farm and the land owner brought his family out. She didnt know them, so she herded them back to their truck and kept them there until I called her off, then she treated them like family.
Being a bird trainer, performing Macaws (Parrot Bill Channel) I know how to train animals, but have only trained her to be my best friend. Eva Come, Eva Sit and Eva Down is all she knows. But with those commands I can control her enough to keep her out of trouble.
I can leave my dinner on the coffee table, go to the kitchen to get something to drink and come back, knowing she will not touch my food unless I tell her it's okay...never trained her to do that, she just does it. At 70, she's the best dog I ever had, and best friend too. I could go on all day about my Eva and never cover a subject twice.

I grew up with a dog like this in Belgium. died at 13 years old. This dog has no problem sleeping outside in the snow during winter while guarding his owner's home. Extremely powerful and loud, they are excellent guard dogs. They are very smart and tricky, in the sense that they'd hide behind a tree and wait for the thief to come and then suddenly attack and jump, if they really want to grab you. Excellent dog! However I wouldn't recommend them if you live in a warm place like Florida. The hair grows very fast, you can just shave them in the summer if you want, by winter time the hair will be back to normal again. Takes quite a bit of maintenance or else their coat turns into rasta dreadlocks.
I have my second Bouvier! They are the most incredible breed! Once you have had a Bouvier, no other dog really matches up to them. Just LOVE them! Thank you for your video xx In South Africa though, we don't crop the ears or dock the tails. Here in South Africa - the Bouvier is on the decline. Happily we have a wonderful breeder in SA who is totally ethical and breeds for the improvement of the breed. On occasion she imports new dogs/bitches from kennels in Holland to improve the gene pool.

I think I mentioned under another one of your videos, but I can sit in my house and watch your videos all day long. It’s raining here today, and my kids (ages from 1 to 13) have literally been on your page all day. You do such amazing work, bro. I share your same enthusiasm for dogs, and as my Mini Dachshund begins her golden years, in looking into what breed I want to purchase/adopt for my family. I’ve trained my dog, and many others, for about 10-12 years now. And I’m looking into working breeds as I feel the climate change in our country calls for me to have more protection in my home. I have a little girl, so I think daddy’s natural instinct just kicks in with that. But, the dogs I’ve been looking into are you on your page.

One of my favorite breeds. We have had Rotts for close to twenty years, but are considering a Bouvier for our next dog. We are an active family that include our dog in all our activities. Our current Rott has done search and agility until needing surgery for torn acl's .
My girl was 15 when she passed❤️ she was the first dog I ever trained myself I have had 2 dogs since and neither have been as loyal or as smart as her. She was stubborn to train but once we got a trick then it was spot on everytime. She was amazing with our horses. Only down part was she was backyard breed. We got her when she was 4 from her previous owner where she was an outdoor dog. She had only been in a crate at the vets office and 2 times at my friends house. But she didn't care she would lay down in it not bark and just take a nap. I miss having one so much
Bouviers were popular in Detroit during the late 70s along with the German Shepherd. I've always wanted one back then.
Aaah when You are willing to deal with the fur they usually are great dogs. As a newborn there was one in the house already. Dingo, a burly girl at about 50 KG standing taller then most boys of her breed. She was all about her family taking orders from no one else but even at 4 years old me and older sisters could read and wright with her. Just the same as she was with our parents. My earliest memories are Dingo never being far from us particularly when other folks were around. When my youngest brother was born and people came visiting she stuck close to his cradle. I remember it being the one time even my dad was not able to move her. Basicly she had chosen her post and stuck too it. Not that visitors had anything to fear but no way in hell she would not keep an eye on things.
By the time it was time for a dog of my own in my early 20ties it had to be a Bouv and when i met Yke we just hit it of together from the very first sec. She was no looker but from a working line. I got her from a guy that bred and trained them for police and guard work. But my Yke just could not be moved to bite. Excelling at the obience part though and a straight up sweetheart. Untill i was abroad for work a few day's when my mom called. Yke was at the vet and it was bad. She had taken her out on a walk and some drunk jerk decided to try mess with my mom. Calm but vigilent at first but the instant the guy made physical contact she had gone all in so fierce even my mom, having been around large working dogs all her life was impressed. The guy had a broken bottle and cut her face up pretty bad but she kept it up untill a passing by neighbour knocked the guy out. And my mom called her off. She never before or after bit anyone or showed any notable agression but that one instant she was called upon she was all there. Paying for it with an eye. Yke has left me long since she slipped quitly away one rainy November night. But whenever i see a bouv i see that mixture of love, loyalty and, if need be uncompromising fierceness and i smile.

A friend used to do security in Jane /Finch area in T.O. simply put, you dont want to go there. They used Dobe's, Beauceron's ( some crossed with dobe) and The Bouv. They stopped using the Bouv as it's appearance wasnt enough of a deterrent. I really admired the bone on the Bouv. Currently looking at Bouv, Black Russian Terrier and Giant Schnauzer.

Just came across them because I love all the Belgian breeds,as I have family roots there but a Malinois is the perfect dog for me. These look very similar to my mom's laberdoodle or golden just more beefy ha kinds the hair does. I'd love one if had the land and means but Malinois take up all the attention. Great video
This was my first dog i got in 1998. They r unbelievably smart and caring. I got her on my 2nd birthday and When I learnt how to bike she would grab my leg and stop me if I would go to fast or got scared. She was my guardian angel and never left my side. I would get off the school bus to my dog on the side walk waiting for me like the movies lol she never left my side and was most loyal dog ever. Every night she would go to everyone's room twice a night just to make sure everyone was still there. I was pretty much raised by a bouvier. They r alot of work and need alot of attention so please don't get one if ur not dedicated... we got mine by accident she was suppose to be a medium dog but turned out to be a giant teddy bear. the best mistake we every made lol
We have two and they are the best dogs I’ve ever had. Our boy Nico is a goofball and so sweet. Sophie is much more reserved but she’s just watching what’s going on, then she’ll swoop in for some kisses and cuddles. I have them in an apartment and they just need regular exercise and they go EVERYWHERE with us…they love it. No dog should be exiled to a backyard, but this would be devastating to the bouvier. They love to be around their family. The protective nature is genetic and can’t be trained into or out of the dogs. You have to let them know what’s appropriate early on and you’ll have no problems after that. I would say being a bouvier owner is a lifestyle, one must be very involved in their training, socialization and grooming. We get to care for these beautiful animals for a period but they are part of our lives forever.

My grandmother had a dog, crossed between Bouvier des Flandres and... We don't know exactly what. When I was little I thought she was a black bear, she was so huge, you had to brush her hair out of the way if you wanted to see her eyes, but she had the kindest deep black eyes. I used to ride her as a horse when I was small, and she was always so gentle whenever my Grandma would put me on her back. Loved this dog

BUT they are made to be independent, they make their own decisions (always in favor of what HE thinks you want). When I was a child, and there was a malinois on the farm I would be afraid. When there was a Bouvier, I would just come in and play with the (VERY large) dog. What I know: just give a Bouvier some cows to manage!! That's top (or something similar).

Love this breed and want one so bad . My grandfather had one as his odd dog in his pack of euro hounds from France for bear . The dog was so great and protected the pack . I want one jet black cropped and docked
My mother's male bouvier weighed 130lbs at one point. She claims she put him on a diet and got him down to 125lbs.

My half Bouier was a therapy dog. He loved everyone except one guy. (it turns out he was carrying a gun. My dog didn't know guns. He just knew this guy was not right.) He had the hilarious habit of loving someone in particular and gumming their shirts, not chewing holes, just soaking it while they were wearing the shirt. Only happened twice but they were loved. Never seen it or heard of it before or since. Best dog I ever owned. Irreplaceable.
the dogs are so amazing. here in slovenia we also have one breeder and i am thinking the whole time to have one. i wouldnt be my first dog with a strong character. i am just worried if i can keep the dog in our big flat on third floor without elevater.

I really enjoyed the positive information you gave and what to look for in this breed. I’ve been wanting a protection dog for the house that is smart enough to know how to gauge a situation. I train dogs but mostly behavior and basic obedience. I’m strongly considering this breed over a Rottweiler that’s more intimidating and is a little more rough around the edges and maybe isn’t the right fit for us. But I’m doing my research before I commit.

If you make a video about "Australian cattle dog", you will see an unflagging medium size working breed with (wild dog blood), you can see this dog in the movie "Mad max 2". I think that you can find a kennel near San Francisco Bay area.

I’ve owned multiple breeds including GSDs and my Bouvier is a faster learner and far more independent, naturally wants to work and home security is natural but they are not for beginners the owner needs to be assertive and put themselves into the position of authority.
Im going to start breeding 6 large breed of dogs at the end of this year and this breed is in the list i be here in chicago illinois and are going to be really cheap soe more people knows all this beatifull breeds

then decreases in number is mostly due to the breeders wanting huge amounts of money. Its really basic laws of supply and demand.
yeah most bouvier's go between $700-$1100 and up which is why you don't see them that often, but if you want a good guard dog they are amazing.

I think this may be one of the breeds my Leelah, an Idaho shag dog mix was created from. Super smart, lightning on legs, the most gentle, fierce and loyal dog. We have her therapy certified and she loves her job healing people.
