As soon as she said the breed name I literally yelled out loud oh my god. When I was 8 my Dad thought it would be a great idea to buy a girl from a irresponsible backyard breeder. We loved her but we were in way over our heads. Our yard was too small, my dad didn’t know how to properly train her, and she kept running away to our neighbors yard. My Dad made the hard but right decision to rehome Sedona to a family much better suited for her. Broke my heart then but I understand why he did it now. Thanks for posting this video it’s really nice to see this breed again
We had one of these at the K9 section when I was in the Air Force, thank god I had a German Shepard mix that weighted 85 pounds. The Boove weighted right around 110 pounds he was huge and the agility that dog had was amazing. We were doing aggressor training one day and one of my fellow dog handlers was in the Bite Suit outside the kennel compound and winding the dogs up he then ran off into the forested area for them to find. The handlers were inside the compound with their dogs, the Boove got so worked up that he broke off his leash and jumped a six foot tall fence with triple strand barbwire above that and went after the decoy. They are amazing dogs.
ahhh finally a bouvier!!! this was my childhood dog and she was amazing, she was definitely my mom's dog and followed her around the house and my mom always remembers our bouvier as the best guard dog. My dad had to go out of town a lot when my siblings and I were little, and my mom took so much comfort in knowing that our bouvier would not hesitate to protect us and definitely had the strength to because she was a force to be reckoned with ❤ She definitely fit the herding dog stereotype tho and ran circles around my siblings and friends lol, so happy to see this breed featured on your channel 😊
Our first Bouvier would tell us my mom was "about" to come home 5-10 minutes before she actually did. And it wasn't that she'd be home about the same time every day. My moms job had her come home between 4pm and 8pm, highly variable. After understanding what she came to tell us, I started messaging my mom to see about where she was on her route home and it would seem that siting outside, listening to the environment, she was able to pick up my moms car up to 3 miles away if the wind came from the right direction. When my mom got a new car, it took only a month before she was familiar enough with the new car to get back to telling us my mom was about to come home. Bouviers are one of the smartest dog breeds I've ever had and them being so good as guard/police/military dogs comes from how smart they are and able they are to pay attention to their environment to the level of detecting either familiar or strange sounds literal miles away. It's unfortunate that them being so energetic has made them unfavored as family pets, which has hurt an already low population breed even further. They were nearly wiped out during the World Wars and their population still hasn't recovered to a level they have a healthy population.
My first dog was a Bouvier and she was a the very best dog a person could ask for. Always close by, always ready to go, a guard dog extraordinaire and more than anything so loving and sweet.
RIP to Zeus, my brother's beige Bouvier. He lived to just past 10 years and we all loved him. He was a giant lap dog oaf lol. It was 'his job' to care for and herd any kids and grandkids and to run around the pool whenever any of us were in it. However, we were required to splash him with water frequently per his demands. My eldest boy, Coco, (who is now 12), looked like a mini me of him but he is older lol. He was just a good dog. He would only listen to tall people though. My brother, 6', my dad (shrunken lol), 5'10, and me, 6'2.
I had a Bouvier years ago. I can not say enough positive things about the breed. I adored her and went into a deep depression when we had to let her go. If you are thinking about one, get one, they are wonderful dogs with amazing qualities. It has been 20 plus years but it still brings me to tears when I think about her.
Well, you'll always have my heart with a Bouvier. I've been with them since the mid 80's. I groomed them for show and pet grooms too. I whelped litters and hand raised them. You did a beautiful job.
Yes! I squealed when I saw the Bouvier being presented today! I grew up with one and it was the most sweet and good natured dog who wants to knock you down without realizing what it's doing. The memories hit me like it was yesterday! Mine lived to be 13.
My parents used to take me to local dog shows when I was a kid. I'll never forget meeting a Bouvier who gave me a long, sweet hug with its giant head rested on my shoulder. What I didn't know (but my parents saw) was that another dog had come up behind me, and the Bouvier started fiercely barking and growling to "protect" me. As soon as the dog left, it went right back to resting its head on my shoulder and giving the best snuggles I've ever had. ❤
I had a friend with a Bouv many years ago. Rosie was a working dog and accompanied my friend into bad neighborhoods for protection when he had to pick up medical specimens for transport. Rosie wore a spiked collar when she was working, and you didn't mess with her then. Once that collar came off and she wasn't in protect-mode, she was the sweetest dog you'd ever meet. She'd come around to every staff at the job for pets, then move on to the next person for more pets.
I grew up with Bouviers, and now have one of my very own. She just turned two, and like you said, is still very much a puppy inside! It made me very happy to see you working with Oakley today, and he is such a good, gorgeous boy! I agreed with everything you said about Bouvs in this episode; you know them well!
Customer came into knit shop where I worked part time, then brought her 4 mo old FlanDoodle in to meet us. Instant love! We got to see him grow up from 45 lbs of puppy to 115 lbs of well behaved, nicely socialized therapy dog (owner had a Standard Poodle who was also a therapy dog.) Rocco is only the second dog I’ve met that I’d love to have one exactly like! The other one was a Siberian Husky, equally well trained.
I love the tap dancers. And your technique to dealing with them shows that grooming isn't all strength and agility, it can be about mind over matter. 🧘🧘♀🧘♂
My friend had a Bouvier, a blonde variety, and when all us young parents would go to the park with Rusty (the Bouvier), he would herd all the toddlers by running around the 5 - 7 kids pushing their behinds with his snout and using the side of his body to make she none of the kids would get lost lol! It was hilarious to see him herd the toddlers, and the toddlers laughed and giggled, because it was just play to them. Poor Rusty was exhausted at the end of the day. They are very compassionate and loving dogs who want to be with their families.
He looks handsome you always do such a wonderful job with the dogs. And a huge huge huge congratulations on raising that money for helping animals that is great. And I'm sure by the time that this video comes on you will have surpassed 20,000 for sure.❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🐾🐾🐾🐾🐕🐕🐕🐕
All she said is applicable to the South African bred Boerboel. A huge, mascular dog with a lovely personality, that has no idea of how big and strong they are. Excellent guard dogs and wonderful with pets and children.

Bouviers act like curious puppies until they die. And while the average age is 10-12, most of ours got to 14-16. And even at that age, the body may no longer be as willing, but their mind and behavior stays the same.
I grew up with Bouviers! I loved them. Friends who came over in elementary/middle school for the first time would usually ask 'is that a bear??' As I contemplate bringing a big dog into my life again, it's definitely in my top 3 breed choices...dirty beard and all, lol.
When I worked at a doggy daycare there was one Bouvier that came in a couple times a year. Seriously one of my favorite pups I ever met. She was such a goof and I looked a bit like her mom so she would do the happy dance when I would come back and see her. You know when there is a dog you just connect with in your souls. That was her, such a precious lady. I will miss her all my days. ❤
Many years ago when I was a kid, my family stayed at a Bed and Breakfast on Cape Cod. The family that owned the place had a huge Bouvier. It looked more bear than dog, and it was so incredibly friendly and it definitely didn't know it's own size, because it would jump on me, slobbering me with kisses when we'd come into the house. I can't recall how old I was, but that dog would put it's legs on my shoulders and it towered over me. Such a memorable experience and such a sweetheart.
Growing up n the late 80s my family had a bouvier-german shepard-doberman mix (his mother was pure bouvier and something of an escape artist, which is how the puppies happened). He was the sweetest, kindest, most loving dog I have ever met. He was also obsessed with guarding and herding us kids which wasn't always great for other people, but we loved him. Unfortunately he got sick when he was pretty young still and had to be put down.
A good video would be if you flip it around and have someone groom you. You play a dog, get trimmed and bathed. What an amazing video 😍😍😍 all 4'10 of a drop dead gorgeous 10 🥰🥰
Over here in Flanders (and most of Europe), couping/docking ears and tails has been illegal for quite some years now and you'll rarely see any that still look like this. Modern Bouviers in Europe have small floppy ears (their natural ears don't get all that much larger than this ones were docked as) and their tails are similar to that of a Golden Retriever, plumed and curved up. I've had Bouviers most my life and they are fantastic dogs. One of the few breeds so smart you can often observe them and see they are just standing there, looking around, observing their surroundings and thinking about what to do next. They are super intelligent, loyal to extremes and like Vanessa said, no clue how strong they are. Most of the ones my family and I had got to 14-16 years old. They are cowdogs, but a good chunk of their existence hasn't been in herding cattle, but drawing milk carts and doing other actual labor, which is probably why they are built like a brick house and ridiculously strong. The reason their tails used to be docked was to make it easier to draw carts. This part of their classic job is part of why they are so ridiculously strong and have energy for days. If you ever get one, start going to puppy school ASAP and for your and the dogs sake, don't stop going until they are at least two years old. And yeah, that white spot on their chest, that's the breeds signature. There's some that have some white in their beard and on their tails too.
My funniest dog show moment occurred many years ago and I still think about it and chuckle. There was the obedience ring where a big Bouvier suitably named "Moose," was going through his paces with his owner. On the outside of the ring a person walked by with a beautiful Alaskan Malamute who was truly stunning. Moose spotted her, fell in love, and left the obedience ring to follow her. Moose's owner was not immediately aware that she was alone until people pointed out that her dog that she had left at a stay had decided to go flirt. She ran out of the ring to grab Moose who was flirting with an annoyed Malamute and her equally annoyed handler. That's when I fell in love with the breed, although I've never had one. They are warm and friendly dogs, but definitely a handful. Seeing Oakley reminded me of that story and I thought it was hilarious enough to share. Moose's owner, by the way, turned shades of red that I'm pretty sure I have never seen in a human being ever since. 🤣😁
I have watched this video twice now, and I love it! We had to put down our almost 10 year old Bouvier, Leo (short for Leonidas), back in March. Seeing Oakley reminds me of Leo, from the tap dancing to the tail wiggles😂. This is a truly an incredible breed, from their unique personalities to their teddy bear qualities, and I am so lucky that I got to have one in my life. Thank you so much for this video and your channel in general, it never fails to make me smile!
My neighbor just had a litter bouvier des flandres pups. His male is fawn, and his female is bridle grey and black. They are some of the best dogs I know ❤️
I had a Bouvier des Flandres for 11 years. Best dog ever. I have fallen in love with the breed and dream to be able to have another one one day. He is a beautiful boy.
Side note. I realized that after I wash my hair and put it up un my cotton turban-like drying towel, your channel pops into my head. It’s my happy hoodie! Sometimes I even need to fix my ears.
The announcement at the end was amazing. I'm sure they appreciate your efforts and your fans and followers. $19,000+ WOW!! I've never heard of this breed and yes it reminded me of a Giant Schnauzer and a pit bull?? Looks like a hyper dog or just energetic. And then to show his thanks he left a little present at the end😊😊Dogs are the best!!!
Bouviers with their full "show" type coat don't look like Giant Schnauzers. Many owners who want to keep them cool in summer and have less to brush get them trimmed shorter, like this guy. We had two and they're actually not a hyper dog at all. They're very loyal, loving and playful.😊
I saw a lady walking two of these and stopped to tell her I had never seen a Bouvier in person. She was shocked I knew what they were. Beautiful dogs but too big for me!
OMG I was wondering if you would ever have the chance to groom a bouvier! Grew up with bouviers, they're such fantastic dogs, thank you for giving some visibility to the breed!
My grandfather had one named George. He was a wonderful and gentle dog. He would allow my grandfather to groom him. They had the sweetest relationship.
It is called hello and patrasche and has a statue located in Antwerp. “A Dog of Flanders” is a tear jerker of a novel that tells the story of “Nello,” a young Flemish orphan living with his grandfather outside of Antwerp. On their way home from delivering milk one day, the pair encounter a dog that’s been beaten nearly to death. The dog is taken home, nursed back to health, and named, “Patrasche.” He and Nello become inseparable. Loss, poverty, disappointment, cruelty, rejection and hardship weave throughout the plot, and then it really gets sad, but despite its despairing story, a Dog of Flanders has become a classic, particularly in Japan.Written by English author, Marie Louise de la Ramée and published in 1872 under her pseudonym “Ouida,” the novel first became popular after a Japanese diplomat living in New York read about the book in the author’s obituary in 1908. He sent a few copies of the book back to Japan where it not only became one of the best-known children’s stories, but required reading for Japanese schoolchildren. Curiously, no one in Flanders knew the book until the first translation appeared in 1987. When the Belgian Board of Tourism learned of the book’s phenomenal success (largely because Japanese tourists to Flanders kept asking where they could find the sites mentioned in the book), the Antwerp district of Hoboken decided to quickly erect a small statue honoring the story. Japanese visitors complained that the figures didn’t look right to them.
it's crazy cos you're so small and you can handle all this! what a cute dog, never knew about the breed. and congrats on the fundraiser. i know you'll get more support in the future too. thanks for sharing
Well socialized Bouviers are really easy to handle. You should take them to puppy class as soon as you can and not stop going to dog school once a week for at least two years. That's why they are often used as police and military dogs. They are hella smart and when trained, very easy to handle. And their energy allows them to be at attention and walk on a leash all day without even getting tired.
Neat to see a Bouvier; I've only seen photos. Good to learn something about them. Many congratulations on your subscribers raising so much for the rescue!
One of my first jobs was grooming. Your set up is fantastic. Talk about strong muscles. I’ve never been so fit wrestling animals. Love your videos and your work is remarkable.💕👍🙏🇺🇸
FYI Down here in the States Bouviers used to be considered by dog show judges the most likely to bite them. I've been out of the fancy for years now so I don't know if that has changed. As it was described to me it had to do with checking the correctness of the teeth.

I loved our Bouvier de Flanders Bear. Because she was oversize for a female, the breeder gave our family a deal. She was an amazing family dog.
Hi 👋
How are you doing Pamela
What a handsome boy! He looked great after his groom!
I love the tap dancers. And your technique to dealing with them shows that grooming isn't all strength and agility, it can be about mind over matter. 🧘🧘♀🧘♂
Bouvier are great dogs, as she said they are incredibly strong, but very nimble despite their weight and size. Great with the family and children.
What a sweetheart, I love big doggies. So often they have the biggest hearts as well.
You are a wonderful person Vanessa
Such a terrific outcome for the fundraiser. And Oakley looked top notch in his after pictures. He's a giant hunk of a dog & cute to boot. ♡
I love seeing all the different breeds, and mixed breeds, who come to Vanessa for makeovers.
All she said is applicable to the South African bred Boerboel. A huge, mascular dog with a lovely personality, that has no idea of how big and strong they are. Excellent guard dogs and wonderful with pets and children.
Stay tuned for a video coming up 😉
@@GirlWithTheDogs Thank you! I am watching your channel from South Africa. My friend has this huge Boerboel , about 2 years old called Duke. He has the softest heart, but looks scary to strangers!
Vanessa, you are an absolute gem!! You’ve taken your love for animals and your talent of making animals look amazing so they can find their FurrEver home. It is such a breath of fresh air to see a truly authentic person doing what they love to do and doesn’t have any ulterior motive. You truly do have the animals as your first priority. That is why everyone loves you and why you your channels have blown through the YT ceiling! Thank you for being one of the only genuine people on social media!!! Much love from Oklahoma 🫶🏻🐾🫶🏻🐾🫶🏻🐾
Well done on the donations for the Niagara Dog Rescue!
The Bouvier was a stunning dog!
Oakley is a sweety, and acts like a curious puppy. So cute. Not a pup for a novice owner.
His little piece of great hair on the front of his beard makes him look extra adorable🐶🐾😍
What an amazingly beautiful floofer!
Girl with The Dogs is my favorite Chanel
That is one beautiful dog. ❤️❤️❤️
I just love this dog.
What a beautiful dog! I always love the tap dancing!
A good video would be if you flip it around and have someone groom you. You play a dog, get trimmed and bathed. What an amazing video 😍😍😍 all 4'10 of a drop dead gorgeous 10 🥰🥰
Oh my word! I think I’m in love❤
Congratulations on raising almost $20,000 !! You are truly a HUGE Blessing to Animals in need in your area TY
Wow, congratulations on an awesome amount of money raised!!
That is interesting about the cart pulling.
He definitely looked like he was up for that level of work.
Thank you for the info.
Love to hear that the docking of tails and ears is illegal. Hope that makes it around the world! ❤
The opposite paw trick is genius!
I had a bouvier, lost him 2 years ago. Still miss him very much he was the best guard and family dog i ever had ❤.
He's beautiful! Well done!
we have had 2 Bouviers, they are amazing, sweet, loyal, calm and intelligent dogs❤ RIP Centa and Djedda😢
Opposite paw trick: Total pro move!
HE IS SO HANDSOME!!!! I have never seen this breed before, I feel like he would be fun and a gentleman!!!! THAT BEARD!!!
Opposite paw trick! So clever!
A lovely fluffball, but definitely not a dog for everyone. These high energy dogs really need someone with a lot of energy and commitment.
Congrats on such a successful charity drive!! The community and dogs/pet owners everywhere are so lucky to have you in their corner.
What a handsome doggy. So cute and very good for the groom
😂 He's a big muscle dog. What a sweet handsome boy.
Never heard of this breed. He is stunning. What a handsome and STOUT dog.
Real sturdy lad. Glad he was friendly! 🐱
Big, strong, loving doggie 😍
what a sweet boy. he even gave you a tip at the end for your excellent service. 5 stars
Cute!:)
What a beautiful and sweet dog!❤Congratulations on all the donations you raised and thank you donors!❤❤❤
Congratulations on your event and all of the dogs that will benefit!
He's so beautiful and big 😂 the white hair on his chin looks like 2 little teeth from afar 😂. Great job and awesome trick you did on this big guy!❤!
What a generous tip 😂 I was SO happy when you announced how much have come together at the fundraiser!! It’s so awesome you are are giving back 🙏
what a sweet dog! And Yay for the fundraiser too!
Stunning boi 💖 ❤ We love you and thank you!!!!!!
My mom had two showdog Bouviers when she was growing up. My grandfather named one of them Jackie...Because Jackie Kennedy's maiden name was Bouvier.
He is gorgeous! Great job on his grooming.
My grandfather had one named George. He was a wonderful and gentle dog. He would allow my grandfather to groom him. They had the sweetest relationship.
I am Flemish myself and i had to laugh how you said it. If your interested there is a very known folklore story about them in Belgium.
Do tell!
Nello* it's a beautiful story
That's why they put another statue in front of the district house in Antwerp centrum
@@Kv-nb1gm thank you for that thoughtful tidbit of history!
it's crazy cos you're so small and you can handle all this! what a cute dog, never knew about the breed. and congrats on the fundraiser. i know you'll get more support in the future too. thanks for sharing
Well done for the fund raiser 👏👏 What a beautiful dog 🐶❤ Great video and groom. ❤😘😘🍀🏴
One of my first jobs was grooming. Your set up is fantastic. Talk about strong muscles. I’ve never been so fit wrestling animals. Love your videos and your work is remarkable.💕👍🙏🇺🇸
I have my third Bouv. They are magnificent, smart, loyal and affectionate. My 5 year old girl still plays with her stuffies. 💜💜💜💜💜
I agree with the camera guy. The opposite paw trick is legendary
FYI Down here in the States Bouviers used to be considered by dog show judges the most likely to bite them. I've been out of the fancy for years now so I don't know if that has changed. As it was described to me it had to do with checking the correctness of the teeth.
One of my mother's friends had a Bouvier. He was such a goofy love bug, and the next door neighbor was terrified of him for reasons only known to her.
Congratulations on the fundraiser! Well done! 🎉👏👏👏
