Right? It's the washed out colors, warm amber tones from scrolling lights, large public entertainment spaces, community, what it feels like, and for a brief moment fall into the illusion of a wondrous past as if it were right there within reach, to just touch all those familiar things you see or smell the air. It would be astounding to mingle in public with total strangers again, a world yet unhindered by quarantines, social media and developmental issues as a result of their environment.
Ted! I sent a question asking if you listened or knew about Ginger Root due to the shared interest in cinematography in the Chuckle Sandwich Q&A Google doc, but I guess it got lumped into the music taste questions!
This I think is one of the first times I ever cried watching a Music Video. For about 7 months, I was laid off, and it was a struggle to find work. As I saw my peers continue to blossom in their careers, I was finding myself going through countless rejections, pausing a lot of my life, and becoming extremely discouraged that I was even able to work in my field of interest in the first place. I felt like an impostor, that I was just lucky with my previous job and that I'd never get a chance anywhere else ever. I was waiting for someone to reach out, and it felt like that moment would never come. Nisemono and the EP as a whole did a lot to help me heal and keep my head up. As I kept trying for opportunities, sought out resources, and just tried to take care of myself, I would have this song helping me walk through getting over the feelings of being an impostor, and to just do my best and keep going. Seeing the Music Video... With Amaiwana performing amazingly as Kimiko going through similar moments of being alone while the world kept moving, trying and trying again with agencies, and ESPECIALLY waiting by the phone just for anything, the visuals have added a whole new level of connecting to this song and sharing that experience of displacement. I was seeing myself in Kimiko's struggle. While I'm thankful I'm not in that situation anymore and am settling into a new, more positive change, Nisemono as a whole has been such a personal journey that Cameron has shared with many and one that I'm grateful to have experienced through his craft. My own Nisemono chapter that I was in has been best bookmarked through the sounds and scenes of the EP, and so I'm thankful to have had something to connect to. I cannot wait for what amazing stories and experiences Cameron will share with his team and us in the near future! Congratulations on another amazing story, and genuinely thank you for helping me get through such a difficult time!
@@GingerRootMusic he's right. I just got hired as a paramedic. You can imagine it's a bit stressful to be doing that job let alone to be new. Listening to your music feels like letting out a breath. Stress I didn't know I was carrying, gone. I really appreciate it- your music also got me through countless all-nighters while studying to get to the place I'm at right now
When I read this, I thought that was the end of the story until I saw the see more button, the story was so sad but I was so lazy and I raged quit while reading cuz I always got lost. Then I said who tf wants to read this- Iam sorry and my condolences :
So what I'm getting from this whole album is basically: Kimiko was this big star who didn't like the fame, which then big man Ginger Root took her job since the manager needed someone to perform, and he wrote the song. And now that she sees him with all this attention and fame, she feels jealous and wants that stardom back. But turns out, Ginger Root doesn't like the attention after all (as seen in "over the hill"). Now what I am guessing is that both Ginger Root and Kimiko are gonna team up and make a song together. Mending the bond, in a way.
I remember that when we get addicted to watching TV series, we get overly attached to some characters and develop hate towards other characters. This parasocial feeling that people hating on Kimiko-chan adds up to the appeal of this whole GR saga lol They did well producing this dramatic atmosphere.
As a musician myself, I’ve got to say I dig this song a lot! It sounds super retro, yet futuristic at the same time with the effects used to make it sound this way in the final recording. I’m also incredibly fascinated by how subversive and unexpected the changes in chord arrangements, harmonies, and melodies get as this song progresses onward to the end. Kinda reminds me of the songs on Captain Beyond’s first album in that regard. So yeah, I’d say I’m a new fan!
this mv is getting me to understand one of the appeals of the aesthetic --- the physicality of all the stuff we now do with just tapping and clicking. any relative'll tell u how much more satisfying it is to hang up on someone with a cord phone as opposed to just tapping
Man, everything is so perfect lol. The amount of work it takes to get this look down clothing wise, set wise, film wise, then making the song lol. Holy shit! I love it lol. Love all of it!
Not a 100% but I think around 1:20-1:23 we get to see Mariya (on a CD), and for the headshots Akina Nakamori, Hiromi Iwasaki, Kyoko Koizumi and Kimiko❤
It's amazing how Ginger Root has gone from trying to mimic Kimiko to properly take her place to now Kimiko trying to mimic Ginger Root and retake her place by taking his place. Or at least that's my interpretation so far.
Getting to see Kimiko's side of the story is great, and the whole Nisemono saga is so compelling. The combination of song and video really stir up an intense sense of melancholy and regret - the colour grading especially. Phenomenal video, can't wait to see where the story goes next!
Although cameras can record high quality and high frame rate already back then, TVs aren't able to show this quality due to hardware and broadcasting limitations compared to now. I like that is used to visualize Kimiko's career, where the ones with low frame rate and video quality are the moments she was stil in the business, and the ones with high video quality and frame rate are the moments she was out. Neat detail.
At 2:28, I heard the motif from 'Loneliness'. I think it's wonderful how tiny details can make the whole song become wonderful. Ginger Root is always great!

As an older Japanese dude, it brings a smile to my face when you can recreate the Showa era feel so well. Absolutely delightful.
Showa era is the best era

such clear love for ones craft, great work
There is no shot I listen to the same semi niche band as icon Ted nivison
What?! Why are you here? I didn’t think Ginger Root was big enough to reach Ted nivison levels but I’ll take that W
I must be seeing things. There's no way my boy Ted listens to Ginger Root too

Ginger root がいまだに何者なのかよくわからないけど毎回新曲聴いてるわ。
I like how she’s glad she’s not with the company anymore, but she feels sad about how easily she was replaced.
So true. :( like she sacrificed a piece of her youth for this thing. :(
Hopefully we can we see "Meet You In The Galaxy" pretty soon!
