First Steps On Our New Homestead
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- A few months ago we moved from a homestead that's been in development for over 20 years to a brand new piece of land that's a little bit bigger and closer to town.
Only thing is, it's a blank slate. We're going to start the long road to creating a homestead as frugally as possible, so you can follow along how we build our homestead from the ground up with as little money as possible.

Looks like a great place! Must be nice to start over having learned everything from your years at the other place. 🤙
I felt happy with my other place but yeah, some improvements will be made that’s for sure
Add some San pedro cactus 🌵 chuck a log on the grass lol some Peruvian torch, Bolivian torch, prickly pear Opuntia, Peruvian apple, some mexican fence post cactus 👀
Cactus does not grow too well here. But i have ideas
Hi Sean. Regarding Worms… Couldn’t you order them on the Internet and have them shipped to you in Hawaii? I think uncle Jim’s worm farm ships them.
You have to get special permits, better to just find worms local
Where is your place located? I’m in California and interested in moving there. I hope one day my dream come true.
I’m in Hilo side of big island
Congratulations on your new homestead!!! I'm so looking forward to watching your progress. You are a natural teacher!
Thanks Kat, Hope things are well with you
I was looking at the house like wait a second I've seen this place before 😂 I live down the road
Aloha neighbor, we just moved in last year to be closer to town. If you see us outside feel free to stop by and say hello
Did you bring your plants with you?...or alot of seeds?
...nevermind your video answered my question.😂
When I first moved on the island, I propagated every plant I could find from friends and neighbors and built up my stoke that way. Kind of doing that again now
Great video and congrats on your new property! So much space to see your vision come to life. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences as you go through the process. So much great advice here. Thank you, Sean!
Thanks Luke, A lot of space but also a lot of work. Hopefully I can get things done soon around here.
Hola, brother! We are starting by grafting the trees that we are going to need on our new land. That way, we will be in production -hopefully - in two years. We will be building our channel soon enough and will mention your channel as inspiration if you don't mind.
Wishing you the best always.🎉
Aloha! Great way to start. A lot of my seedlings will be used as rootstock soon. Feel free to mention, maybe we can do a collaboration or something?
What a nice piece of land! I’m over on Kauai with just 1/3 acre. But, I’m surprised of how much we can grow already. I look forward to seeing what you do with your new homestead. Congratulations!
I just moved from a half acre to 3 acres. You don’t need much in Hawaii to do a lot
Beautiful clean slate to work with, I'm excited to see how you put everything together on the new land
Me too! If only I could fast forward 10 years.
Great video! Im starting my 3 acres in Fern Forest from scratch too. . Very helpful information. Mahalo!
Awesome! Fern forest is great. Have you seen the crowd sourced plant list for Hawaii? Send me your email and I can give you the link. Info@homesteadinhawaii.com
As you had mentioned - relocated to Hilo town. I didn’t know they have acreage . I love your property, lots of space, and also in town. I am in HPP
Shhh!
Another good video, good info, place is lookin good. Right on bud. Thanks always for sharing.
Thanks. I haven’t done much. It’s been so hot. But I’m hoping to get a few more garden beds in
@@HomesteadinHawaii Man it's been notging but cool here in San Diego on the beach. All summer I don"t believe we ever got to 85. The fall has been absolutly beautiful. Calm morning fog hanging over the coast, then nice warm slow days. Which I'm sure you remember well.
Aloha from Minnesota :) Best I can probably do is an apartment or townhome homestead lol
That’s great. There’s a lot you can do in a small space
@@HomesteadinHawaii I started learning early this year and had a bokashi bucket (in my bedroom!) all nice n warm while in the negatives outside. Fast compost :)
Congrats. Looking forward to following you
Thanks. Hope you enjoy the journey
"No matter what my wife says" 😅
Happy wife happy life
What a beautiful home!
It’s a simple work in progress which will be amazing when we’re done I hope
I thought you had the homestead of your dreams 🤔
Also, after you did your avocado grafting video, I bought one off you that you said was a summer fruiting avocado. Might that be a Yamagata? Do you remember?
I don’t think I ever said that. I’ve been wanting to get out of ainaloa for a while.
That sounds familiar but I’ll have to ask
Curious as to why you wanted to leave Ainaloa. Is it too far from the beach?
