Wow, thanks for this. I'm a former Angeleno but Have not been back for eons. As a film student back in 1966 I did a film on the then mostly demolished Bunker hill and the famed flight. I remember the ticket taker, upon learning what I was up to, let me ride as many times as I needed for free. At that time I had no idea about the future disassembly and possible restoration of the flight. Most unfortunately that super-8 film has been lost to time.
I'm Floridian and I had no idea this inclined railway existed. IIRC, these funiculars were fairly common in some cities from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. I believe Cincinnati had a few but none exist now, but I was in Pittsburgh about 20 years ago and I believe there are still 2 there, the Duquesne and the Monongahela. I rode the Duquesne Incline up Mt. Washington, had dinner at an Italian restaurant, and then back down again. It dates to 1877 (!) and I rode it after sundown and it was like being in the Twilight Zone, a sense of age and history was palpable. If I ever get back there, I plan on riding it up and down for a few hours as 1 trip was not enough. Should I ever get to L.A. , the Angels Flight will be my first destination.
30-12-2019.The very first thing my father did when we came to Los Angeles back in !969, was to take the origale Angels flight, why did they change the location?
oldartguy I’m sure originally it was built between Hill St. and Olive St. (Which I think is in Bunker Hill) However, in 1969 the area was cleared for redevelopment to be made flatter and so Angels flight moved one block south of its original site and re opened in 1996. I’m British so I probably got most of that wrong but if I remember rightly that’s why it moved. :)
How much did that bit of nostalgia cost LA city proper's failed gentrification project. I'd believe it if I was either wealthy or was padding my pocket

I didn't know it had started running again after the accident in 2001. Time for another trip to L.A. after the restrictions are over!
We are doing Route 66 backwards & I finally got to take the ride! Awesome - like going back in time!
Those things really chug along. There must be a lot of torque being produced by whatever kind of engine they have.

Didn't a sailor die from walking on the rails?
Does someone know the coordinates of where the ORIGINAL location was?
Angels Flight began at the west corner of Hill Street at Third and ran for two blocks uphill (northwestward) to its Olive Street terminus.
That's soo 😎 Cool. Oing this weekend W~Kiddos. What's at the top??
Seems pretty pointless, no?
